We visited with a large group on a Saturday. The house wasn’t open for viewing, but we were given a short tour of the property and were allowed to poke around in the gardens. The guide explained how rainwater was collected from the gutters and stored in the cistern. He named the people buried in the cemetery and explained their relation to one another. He was very knowledgeable about the boundaries of the plantation and the size and location of slave quarters that are no longer standing. The gardens are very peaceful and enjoyable.

I toured Shadows on the Teche last month with the Get Away Gals & had the pleasure of learning not only the typical plantation history, but a more complete story including the lives of enslaved peoples lives on site, along with a bit about the native tribes that once were stewards of the area (I especially enjoyed their creation myth!) My daughters and I toured the Shadow while on vacation. The young man who guided us was so very knowledgeable and helpful. He spent well over an hour with us. Answered all our questions, told us so much about the Louisiana culture and history of the Shadow. This is a beautiful antebellum style home and very well preserved to include the furnishings. The gardens and the ancient trees are phenomenal. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes history.

Such a great little museum about the history of the area. I wasn't aware of much of the history of the bayou or the city itself and this gave a great in depth view of how it came to be. The welcome film in the old movie house ticket box was cool. There is also a recreation of the Rodrigue Blue Dog studio from his personal collection. There's a section dedicated to the author James Lee Burke as well. For $5 you can't beat it.

Love this park wish they would update the little kids side but its still awesome and we love it. The big kid side has a huge park that is very tall so I wouldn't let little ones on unless you're going up with them as they have openings they can fall down from but they recommend that only 5 to 12 year olds play. Good way to blow 2 to 4hrs that's the max I can do with 2kids. Plenty of shade which is a must for my 5month old while my 2 year old plays. Not littered with trash and everyone is nice. Also has ducks but ask you to not feed them. Clean up after yourselves and enjoy being in nature.

This is probably my favorite park in Acadiana. It's a good size, *completely* shaded by trees, has walking trails, tennis courts, a traditional playground and a new, fenced in playground for bigger kids on synthetic ground (less dirty) and a dog park. There's even more that I can't list. The scenic bayou is along the back end of the park and there's an enchanting blue green pond surrounded by swamp trees just past the walking bridge where you'll see ducks and other animals. I can go on and on, I just love this place!

This place is our go to when it comes to the ONLY place I trust with dusting their boiled seafood. That being said, it is an awesome place for seafood, sadly though, the Chinese is good, but not 5 star good. I love getting the Jane's shrimp appetizer, and the onion mum is not too far behind. Good beer selection, and overall soft drinks are always fresh here. The downside is sometimes the wait, but if you use Yelp, you can check in ahead of time while you're on the way there. Tuesdays are the best time to come, since they run specials on boiled seafood. I do know you can get alot when it comes to the fried rice and/or noodles, just never strayed away from the boiled seafood. The cajun dishes are great aswell, so don't be afraid to try this place out and see why it has the good reputation it has!

Today is my 36th birthday and I'm absolutely obsessed with hot sauce so my girlfriend and I decided to drive from Destin Florida to visit the Tabasco farm! We got into town a little late so unfortunately we missed the factory tour, so obviously we had to find somewhere to eat! This is one of the many gems that came highly recommended by local residents here. They have a pretty extensive menu with local Cajun/ Creole options and Chinese dishes on the opposite side of the menu. Both options I heard were fantastic but most customers here came for the local dishes: seafood boil, stuffed shrimp and crab, etc. I sat at the bar (it was packed and I didn’t want to sit at a table that could accommodate a party of 6), ordered a brew and indulged in some delicious stuffed shrimp! Wow! I usually save room for dessert but that wasn’t going to happen tonight.

Very busy, but servers were prompt and as fast as they can get.
The seafood options are amazing, fresh and generous portions.
I tried the special 1/2 lb large shrimp and 2 crabs with potatoes and corn $16 and some change (great deal).
I enjoyed the flavor and quality and I paired that with a half dozen of charbroiled oysters of course.

This is a very interesting and historic rice mill. The oldest operating rice mill in America! The staff were exceptionally nice and very helpful. The tour of the rice mill begins with a voiced over presentation about Acadian country and ending with rice farming today. Then the tour of the mill itself with the levels of hoppers and separation of the rice. The company store has many souvenirs and of course rice products (seasonings & coffee too). The chicken salad was delicious 😋 very flavorful and the roasted pecans were the perfect touch! Lovely coffee shop/cafe vibe here, it’s decorated and arranged very nicely with an open space concept, with tables and lounge area! A good assortment of fresh desserts. The latte was very good. Within the same building is the Cane River Pecan storefront shop with a lot of Louisiana and Cajun inspired gift options as well as their pecans. There is also live music on Friday afternoons.
If you’re traveling though or live here and haven’t been yet, definitely come stop by, to grab a bite or have a cup of coffee. You won’t be disappointed

We had a great time at Pie Bar! They have a fantastic menu with pies available by the slice, half, or whole. And they also have a lovely cocktail menu!
We tried four different slices. Key Lime, orange creamsicle, strawberry Guidry, and a coconut crème pie. All were fantastic, with key lime taking home the gold. Beautiful playing, and a crust that will change your life.
My partner had a glass of Prosecco, and I had their signature table side smoked pecan old fashioned. It was not smoked table side, and for a $15 cocktail, it was just fine. I don’t expect the old fashioned to be the life of the party at the pie bar, though.
There is also an attached gift shop with some ambitious pricing. But it’s a gift shop.

We had a lovely time visiting the gardens, going to the restaurant for lunch and getting a house tour from a guide who had so many interesting stories. The house is stunning, although you're not allowed to take any pictures. The story of the first owner, Joseph Jefferson, who worked in the traveling theater and played rip Van Winkle is fascinating. Our 2nd overnight trip/stay at Rip Van Winkle Gardens, we absolutely love everything about this place! The cottages are up-scaled, clean, and cozy. The food at Café Jefferson is impressive sized and delicious (we had enough for leftovers both visits). The gardens are well-kept and beautiful. We enjoyed our visit here even though the time of year meant that the gardens weren't in full bloom. The grounds were definitely beautiful and there were lots of unique areas in the gardens, but their map is not to scale and nothing is clearly labeled. My partner and I are always looking for little local destinations to take “grown up field trips” while our kids are in school, and this gem fit the ticket perfectly. Attended a wedding there recently. We were pushing it to get there on time and we did, barely. So, this review is kinda 1 sided. Everything we saw was amazing. From the grounds outside where the wedding took place to the surrounding areas close to wedding area. The building (not sure what to call it) where the reception took place was nice and seemed set up well.
My only regret is not being there early enough to see more of the place, but I am content with what I did see, the peafowl, and an awesome sunset over Lake Peigneur. Maybe I can get back there one day and see the rest.

First time playing $65 for 18 not a bad deal. The greens were nice the course was very well maintained there’s a lot of bunkers though they should change the name to Cane Bunker; each green had like three bunkers around them. It’s a very difficult course but I enjoyed it. The only problem I had is there was no water on the entire course and we only saw the cart girl twice. There’s usually a couple of holes where there’s water at other courses but not here. I would suggest making sure you prepare yourself cause they have a nice little make you own water setup inside before you hit the greens or you might get a heatstroke lol

The course is very nice and challenging! The staff is super friendly as well. My only complaint is I wish they would manage playtime and flow better. We were not able to finish 18 and had to jump holes. There was a group of 8 guys playing then a group of 6. At one point waiting on the tee 2 other separate groups came up behind us. maybe trying to manage when the players go out so were not all on top of each other can make it more enjoyable rather than having a ball whizz by your head due to impatient players behind you and not being able to let them play through. We couldn't play through because then we'd be on the 8some group. Also having a course marshal to help with flow would be awesome.
Other than that little mishap I really look forward to coming back!
