Our entire family are artists, with our youngest daughter being a potter. We knew that we would be interested in this museum however, we had no idea how extraordinary this display would be!! The building itself is a piece of art. We were the only people in the entire museum. Penny at the front desk was an amazing hostess. She told us unique things about the museum and the history of the area she also set us up to watch a video. She continually answered questions as they came up. It was almost like having our own tour guide. Certain days of the week the school house attached to the museum is also open. However, it was closed the day we visited. You can also tour the grounds on a lovely walking path and visit a slave house that was moved to that property. There is also a 1920s gymnasium that they use as a dance hall on the same land. Admission was free however we made a donation because it was so good. We will be going back at the end of August for their Art farmers market festival.

The grounds were very well taken care of and even with it being the first of October, there were a lot of flowers in bloom. Expect a bit of walking. The majority of the farm is level but the walk from the parking lot down to the visitor center is a lot of steps but there are ramps as well.

Ladies and gentlemen it is truly a treat and such unique fun. I know they lap it every year but I truly wish the would gave the dance every year. My darling wife so enjoyed dressing up to the 30s era, learning to dance with their free instructors, the pics by the classic car, the food and wines from the farm as well. It was an incredible fun thing as life sometimes becomes doldrums events like this mean so much. A local told us to check it out and I am so grateful we took her advice. We almost missed it and let me tell you, this is a MUST SEE!!! It is the oldest store in GA! Built in the 1800’s with its original storefront (signs and all). Walk inside and continue your step back in time with antique cash register, pharmacy bar, crank telephone, etc. The ambiance is sure to delight your spirit. They even have nostalgic penny candy and it brought me back to my childhood. If Bill is there, he’s likely telling old stories, entertaining shoppers as he pours them tastes of various ciders. My two favorites were the Muscadine and the black cherry. YUM!!! My mom loved the peach. Back in the day, the original owners sold the place to a couple from Norway so the middle of the store has an entire section of Scandinavian delicacies. The entire staff was as delightful as the rest of the store. If Linda is there, say hello and tell her how beautiful she is. She is the sweetest soul! The Old Sautee Store was one of our first visits and immediately an amazing experience. As soon as we walk in, we're greeted by an incredibly sweet lady. I absolutely love this place. I grew up going here all the time with my mom. The Old 25 cent player piano. The other old things are awesome to look at. I was disappointed they scaled the trolls down so much. It would have been fun if they had maybe made a troll village in a plastic glass box out on the porch or something. I usually don't leave reviews but felt compelled. We were coming to Helen to celebrate my father-in-law's birthday and we called earlier in the day to make some arrangements to make his birthday extra special. We spoke to the owner, who was very professional and courteous. He prepared a black forest cake complete with the candles and everything special just for us. Our food arrived on time. The food was delicious, even our picky kids enjoyed it. After dinner. They brought out the cake, candles and lit the candles for my father-in-law so we could celebrate his birthday. It was the the perfect way to celebrate the birthday of such an amazing person. At room temperature, it has a light crispness and not too sweet. Chilled, it’s very sweet without the crispness - we prefer it at room temperature though. Not too many folks since it just opened at 11am like other businesses in Helen. Parking is on a hill so be careful! Also the main entrance is right on the busy highway….ugh! On a cloudless, lovely blue sky with a crisp cooling breeze….is the best time to visit Helen for great tasty wine and a plate of delicious cheese! The Wine Hills of Georgia!

If you want a great outdoor experience with lots of fun, definitely do the Cool River Tubing. We opted for the long run, about 3 1/2 hours. While it was decent, I feel the chicken was lacking a bit of flavor and overall it kind of just made the dish bland 3/5. And for dessert, we got a cookie sandwich. The cookie was a bit cold, perhaps due to the ice cream however, the dessert was still very good and if the cookies were warmer, it would have been a 5/5, still I’d rate it a 4/5. We started with the Calamari, Salad with ginger dressing, and Hoochee's River Basket as our appetizers. The river baskets were amazing and had so much tuna we were all surprised that it could be classified as an app instead of a main course item. Then for dinner my mom decided to try out some sushi because she was so impressed by the Hoochee's River Baskets and got the Sexy Girl roll, which was once again delicious. We all decided to do shareable for dinner and ordered Tofu Green Curry, Chicken Pad See Ew, and Panang Curry. Ordering all these different menu items and a variety of meats was a good choice because each dish was well complimented by the spices and flavors. None of the curries were too spicy and both DO come with rice (something we were a little worried about). Last but not least, I do have to compliment our server Eddie. He was very attentive and welcoming. I had many questions and concerns about the sushi, as I like to know which ones I am eating before I try as a visual eater, and he was able to name each of the dishes that have a picture on the menu. I found that to be very helpful. We also chatted with Eddie about our time in Thailand which made him even more welcoming and he was enthusiastic to discuss about his home country. All in all, this restaurant was a great experience to be shared and we will be coming back again when we come to Helen the next time.

You could wander around on your own or follow a tour guide, or both! I listened in on some of the tour guides showing the Murals on the different walls. One was Native American Culture. Ask for the scavenger hunt. The museum has a gift shop with Melissa and Doug train sets and some rock themed gifts. The model train room has two levels where we could see the mountain town from above and below. There were three trains running and the kids love following them around the room. Such a cute little town. I absolutely loved being there. However, when we checked out, my son accidentally left his Switch games there. We were already 2 hours out on our drive back home to Houston when he realized. We got in contact with the owner. We were told they did find the games there. I asked if they could ship them back and that I would pay for shipping. They agreed and said not to worry about the shipping. I thought, how generous and awesome of them! We provided them with our home address. A week went by. Nothing. I called and I was told by the receptionist that the owner was not there. I left my phone number and was told someone would reach out. Nothing. Days went by and I reached out again. I was told the person who was shipping them was out sick. Ok cool. Fine. I waited more. Nothing. I reached back out again as did my son. We were told someone would provide the shipping number. Nothing. It’s been 2 months now and I have not received anything. No communication. No games. I am irritated. Yes, it is my sons fault for accidentally leaving the games there. However, don’t promise to send something and then keep giving BS excuses and leading us on. I will never stay here again. I’d rather stay at a big chain hotel now due to this experience.

The beds, linens, pillows and towels were all very comfortable and soft. The kitchen is functional but the outside grill needed to be cleaned properly. There is a large front porch and a fire pit area. The misquotes are viscous however. It is in a woods so the exterior does show typical “woods” wear and tear. The location is an easy walk to town even for small children, old dogs, and grandparents. The river is close and a short free tubing ride is available but the walk to do the tubing can be challenging. There is a child friendly area but I would have liked it a little cleaner. The bubble wands were fun for all ages! The incline into the driveway can bottom out your car so be aware. Would hate to do it if there was ice. The rain made it slick and it is on a curve. Pathways for walking through the woods to avoid the curving road is lighted and pretty at night. I would recommend this cabin to friends and family. The owners are also very easy to reach and very welcoming people.

From the moment we booked a cabin with Miss Pam and Earl, they were very accommodating, professional and friendly. When we arrived to this gorgeous property, we were greeted warmly and taken to our beautiful cabin. The cabin was great, a lot of thought and care went into creating it. Detail to comfort and higher end amenities made us feel very well taken care of. They told us about the waterfall just down the trails and after a wonderful breakfast the next day, on our Blackstone grill, we went and enjoyed it. Spent the day in town, came back, to enjoy smores over our own private firepit, had a soak in the hot tub and slept like babies in the super comfy bed. The pet friendly part was amazing too, we were able to bring our 2 little fur babies with us and have family adventures. The check in and out process was super relaxed and we will definitely be back, maybe for a summer to enjoy the other activities they offer.. Well designed, well maintained, well paved. Plenty of interpretive markers about the history of gold, railroading, and agriculture in the area. Beautiful views of the Chattahoochee River and a waterfall, and Nacoochee Village (inaccessible from the trail itself). Observation decks and places to sit are available, and the trail managers have built a nice boardwalk section also. The historic farm at one end of the trail itself is worth checking out separately. Four stars instead of five for lack of services on the trail, and a little bit of a remote area if the farm is not open on a given day (and the least populated area of Helen on the other end of the trail).

It’s a super short trail that’s wide and winding next to the river. We started on the North side in Helen, GA and walked to the South side at Hardman Farms. Along the way there were some plaques you can read as well as a section that you can jump to see how far you jump as compared to different animals (see the picture attached). This is the perfect trail for a toddler just learning to hike as well as for other hikers who are just stretching their legs. Have fun on the Hardman Farm Heritage Trail!
