Kurt, the winemaker, gave us a fantastic walk-through of the wines, and immediately gave us a welcoming feeling as we came in without an appointment (which you don't need here). The Pinots were spectacular, especially the Stuller vineyard, but really they were all good in their own right (Taylor is more elegant, English Hill lovely as well). Kurt seems to take a lot of care and time with the vineyards themselves, doing essentially organic farming so that it's good for the environment AND good for the depth of the wines themselves. All the vineyards are local to Occidental, which is another plus. And the tasting room with its natural wood tables and neighborhood feel is great. We stopped in another day to just have a glass.
