My son and I spent a beautiful day here! It's absolutely breath taking from the beautiful waterfall to the sounds of the rushing water. So peaceful, like free therapy and just what I needed. The park is enormous and boast a pavilion with a restaurant with wonderful food and drinks. It also had a huge grassy area for just relaxing in a chair or on a blanket. The only bad things I have to say is, I don't live closer so I can be here every day. It's absolutely beautiful and peaceful. I highly highly recommend.

This is our favorite park which is a block from our condo. It's so peaceful and always a vibrant amount of people jogging, walking their dogs or just hanging out in the park. It's nice too because they closed off one of the roads so less traffic runs through the neighborhood hood which gives you a sense of peace. Good one just right in the center of the skyscrapers .. nicely located with some wonderful sculptures. We love the sign of the park. Easy go to the top and you can have some awesome view. The garden has a few benches and some great photo opportunities to take advantage of.
Follow the path and you can see all the sculptures in 60-90 minutes at a slow walking pace spending a few minutes for each sculpture.
Street parking meters are here and you can also get to park in the garage across the street if you drive in.

I had a great time visiting here with my mom and I totally recommend going and making sure you reserve enough time. It is a pleasant walk and a lot to do around it besides the garden. I won’t give any spoilers, but here are a few thoughts I found some artwork pretty amazing, Like the Horse, or Saint Laurence chapel made with recycled material…and some pieces I didn’t understand at all haha. All pieces are decently signed and have cool background information I will risk being publicly lame here, those stones with metal look like tooth with old amalgamated filling lol

Over 30 different sculptures at least! A small walking distance with a path that lets you see them all! There is a bridge close by that overlooks the whole park and interstate as well! Not sure how I haven't reviewed Theodore Wirth yet, but it is a fantastic park. Numerous trails both paved on unpaved, hiking only and multipurpose. Extremely well maintained and so many different areas to explore from the Trailhead to Wirth Beach area, to Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden to the Quaking Bog and more! I am very fortunate to live so close to one of my favorite parks! Pics from all over the park over the last 2 months.

A great series of parks and trails. There really is something for everyone, from volleyball and swimming at Wirth Lake to wildlife and native flora viewing at Eloise Butler. You can feel like you're in the wilderness despite being in the middle of Minneapolis, viewing rare habitat types like the quaking bog. Hiking, biking, or just strolling, there's something to do and plenty of helpful park staff to ask for more ideas.

Beautiful park for a morning walk. Lots of seating at different spots which are beautiful pit stops along your run. There’s a fairly nice track of about 4 miles around the entire park. I was able to catch the sunrise, and it was calming. The upper part of the park gives an Icelandic vibe, while the southern portion is a trail around a lake. There’s basketball courts, tennis courts, by the lake patios. Amazing bike trail as well. Must visit!

This park has several sections. Rose garden that was excellent, a more native natural fountain area in the Peace Garden (very serene), and there is a bird sanctuary also very Northwoods kinda natural walking trails.
Parking right across from Rose garden next to peace garden. Only a few bucks for parking, so a good deal, as you will spend at least an hour, I think maybe two or more if you sit and relax or explore every plant/flower type.

Visited this park on a mid-April weekday around noon. We’ve had a very cold spring and trees are still bare, making the warts of this little park stand out.
On the plus side this little park is right on the Mississippi with a nice views of the Stone Arch Bridge, the downtown skyline, and the Pillsbury A building. It has nice wooden stairs and bridges, and it’s ideal for getting a quick but intense cardio workout.
On the downside the park is severely scarred by graffiti and refuse. There’s quite a bit of evidence of drinking and drug use. I would not feel safe bringing children here, and I suggest that women do not visit the park alone.

I loved it. What a wonderful, diverse park. Spectacular scenery with lots of green space that can accommodate any type of activity for any age - including pets. And the scenery and photo opportunities are spectacular, limited only by the imagination. The weather and mighty Mississippi make for a constantly changing display of the power of the elements and water - it's different every time you visit.
The park is surrounded by tons of restaunts and other establishments so it's just so easy to find relief and refreshment whenever needed. Parking is a bit limited, but with persistence you can always find a place.
Bottom line is it is always worth the effort to visit any time of the year. Highly recommended.

This is a great little park!!! Love it. But, bathroom access is a problem.
Last weekend for example, with a language group in the park and people BBQing on a nice day, there were NO bathrooms available as no staff.
When staff is there in off season, the building bathrooms do not open till noon. When the outside bathrooms are open in summer, they sometimes become occupied by someone camping out in the bathroom.
A solution to this situation would be a portable potty there at all times. It is not something people camp out in and can be available when the building isn’t open.
We go to Springbrook Nature Center as well, and that is exactly what they do - they always have one porta potty available. When the building is open at Springbrook - great, when not - always available. It’s not fair to leave people using the park, without a bathroom.

My first visit there and it was very impressive. The parking lot is very tiny but I was there on a Saturday morning by 8:00 and I did get a spot. I thought there were wildflowers but I was confused by the layout and I didn't have a map so I think I went the wrong way. It was still very Lush and green and there were lots of birds. My favorite part was in the middle I was on a boardwalk and that is very nice to walk on as I have a back injury I'm recovering from. There were a few places I took pics of sunflowers but I think I missed most of them or they're just not open yet. I love the location and I definitely will be going back again

I went last week and it was such a joy. I loved wandering the garden quietly listening to the falling acorns and birds. Lots of flowers still to see and I'm sure the fall colors will start to pop soon. Don't forget to look for polly the pollinator and head inside the visitor center to collect some milkweed seeds! I love this park. Besides the trails and the bridge that you can see turtles swimming and in the afternoon see small fish jumping out of the water, lots of birds to photograph there is also a center where you can get a drink, sit outside on a on their patio. They offer classes for all ages too. Very clean and safe for all. Nice large parking lot too. They have outside concerts in the summer.

Don't stay after park/ trails/ beach closes at 10pm. Trails are dark, bring a good flashlight if you do. Phones I don't think cut it. Nice swim beach. But we did find some glass in the sand so be careful. Have to hike to get there, wear good shoes. Police will be there late waiting for people to come out after close. It's hard to place Schaper Park because it's a great park for grade schoolers and Middle Schoolers but not toddlers. There's some softball diamonds nearby as well as a pond and a trail. The park is not very big and there isn't a ton of parking that's close. But if you're looking to entertain some kids, especially really active, sporty kids, this is the park to go to. I have visited the park several times it is very serene and a good place to relax. I love to run and walk on the trail around the lake... you can easily extend your run or walk over to Cedar Lake. In the summer, we paddle our canoe and SUP across it’s clean water over to the chain of lakes. In the winter, we cross country ski the trails and sled on the northeast side of the lake. We lived the ambience and surroundings for lunch! There is plenty of seating and although there was a decent sized line to order, it went by pretty fast. The food did take a while but was hot and fresh and so so yummy!! They serve a lot of people and the fresh delicious food was not compromised in doing so!

The museum was nice. Lots of reading and some places to sit and listen to short presentations. Upstairs there was a 16 minute film. You will learn more about the Dakota Indians and what happened to them.
Take time to learn about Dred and Harriet Scott. A very important part of history.

Beautiful day to learn about history. Barely anyone else there. All the staff were very friendly, helpful and compassionate. The golf cart ride from the visitor center to the historic building very much appreciated, definitely helped us save our energy to be able to walk around in the heat and the drivers were great conversationalist. Fort Snelling was much more interesting than I expected. Although four of the building were original, the reconstructed buildings really enhanced the story about how people lived in the fort. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and gave us insights into how a fort from this timeframe was designed and used. Make sure to take a tour.
The museum as interesting displays and the building is beautiful.
I was surprised the Fort was used to train MIS troops during WWII.
I took the Blue Line and walked about a mile to the Fort. It wasn't as far as I thought and there were interesting things to see along the way but it might be long for someone that isn't used to walking.

Beautiful park. There is a north entrance and a south entrance further along the road. Downhill is kind of winding, so expect that if on bicycle or foot.
Waterfalls, streams, creeks, and of course the Mississippi River.
They have a few circular stone areas with fire pits and picnic areas with restrooms.
Quite a few trails, a couple of nice campy looking spots. Im not sure if the park allows camping or once did, but it's clear it had more space for more people, and maybe it's just changed it's parking layout as it grew.

Hidden Falls Regional Park is a great place for a walk. I enjoyed strolling along the trails, and it's a popular spot for people to bring their dogs or go biking. The view of the Mississippi River from the walking trail is beautiful. There are a couple of parking lots, and I appreciated the seating available about every 20 minutes along the path. The nature’s beauty outweighs most of the negatives of this park - it’s old trees, lush greenery, and soft sandy shores of the Mississippi grabbing one’s eye before the unacceptable amount of garbage within the trails can. Beautiful park! Amazing views of the river and the hidden falls are incredible. The path up to the falls is lined with trees, flowers, and old stones. It feels like you're walking through a fantasy realm to find a hidden treasure.
There are also lots of picnic tables and fields to play with friends. In particular the outdoor grill picnic area seemed super nice (plus the bathrooms nearby were quite well-maintained!) The trails are great to walk your dog—however, these are primarily dirt trails and can get rocky up near the falls so keep this in mind if you have mobility limitations.

Kinda sketchy. But it's beautiful.has tons of trails and places to fish. Great place to bike because the trails are extremely long. Beautiful creeks also run alongside some parts of the trails. I tend to see deer a lot in this area which is nice considering it's in the cities. Helpful staff and a beautiful lake. I started my ride from the first bridge located to the right of the starting point and explored the smaller part of the lake first. This place is beautiful any time of season! There are many trails to walk on that are dog friendly. It’s connected to Minnehaha Dog Park and Minnehaha Falls. The river was a bit hard for us to access for our dog to drink the water cuz the water level was so high. When we’ve been here in the summer, the water was the perfect height as our dog could wade in the river and drink water from. This is also where my husband proposed to me. Great place to go see. We actually came here to take some family photos. The scenery is exquisite! There is quite a bit of a hike to get to the water and we had our three young boys, including a 10 month old in the baby carrier, so it was quite the adventure! But absolutely worth it! This is a fun place to hike. There's a long trail that will take you near the Marshall Ave Bridge on one side and the other side leads to the waterfall. Though my pictures are from spring, my favorite time to visit this place is in the fall. It looks magical almost with bright golden oaks and maples, red and dappled orange, lots of fall colors. There are rock ledges to look over the river, that is if they aren't already occupied.
One thing I don't like is the graffiti on the waterfall at the moment of this review.

I love this park. I live a block from it. The new skate park, basketball and tennis courts are absolutely beautiful. They even added a grill and picnic area! I wish there were more than one! It's great seeing everyone enjoying it as a community. The grass is starting to grow in the field and the playground is just perfect. I love walking up there to have lunch and read a book, swinging on the swings in the evening after all the kids have gone home and bringing my nieces to burn all their energy off at the jungle gym. I love coming here. It’s right off the greenway so you can bike there. There are so many points of entry, the main one being the beach that has multiple lifeguards and a dedicated swim area. It’s great for families with kids because there’s extra safety (lifeguards), a playground, food, restrooms, and they have rentals if you want to go out in a kayak or swan boat. The lifeguards take scheduled breaks and during this time no one is allowed in the swim area. This is a great reminder to hydrate, put on more sunscreen, and have a snack. Smaller children will need adult supervision. The lifeguards have rules in the swim area, but nothing that will greatly impact your time there. It’s all to make sure everyone has a safe time that is not bothered by anyone rough housing or taking up space with floating objects. There are other beaches along the shoreline if you’re looking for something less regulated. Highly recommend!

Kind of a hidden gem garden in the Cities as it is not in the main downtown park area. A relative small garden, but every time we have been there, extremely well done and really well designed!

This place was certainly east and it was definitely on the river, and it could probably be classified as a park in some jurisdictions. However, I didn't find it to be particularly flat in any way, shape or form. I was able to mill about, looking at various trees and whatnot, contemplating existence for a moment. A beautiful spot to visit on a warm day. We stopped as part of our bicycle ride through the surrounding area. Took off our shoes and waded through the water. The fountains are so well designed, and waterfalls so captivating that I could look at them for ours. Such a treasure for the community.
There was an incident that did cast a cloud over the experience. There was a person, that seemed to be having a mental health crisis. (Did not look homeless, but who knows). They had been wading into the fountain area (which are off limits, but not great signage), and happen to cut their foot on something. Alerting the security personnel only caused them to chastise the individual, but did not provide any medical assistant, or call for other resources. We had a first-aid kit and were able to render some help. Not sure what happened after we left.
After reading some of the other negative reviews, it appears that their have been issues with homeless people in the area. Not sure what the answer is, but you simply can't have injured people, bleeding in public spaces, especially in areas where others are sharing that space. Kind of sad :(

Really loved this total hidden gem. A very NATIVE (and non-native) green garden space along with tonnes of flowering plants. The signature is the rock formation/water feature wrapped in a wonderful green grove landscape. There were people streaming in regularly to get portraits of them selves and wedding parties, etc.
Really a FANTAsTIC space to explore options for sun/shade plants the you might use in your yardscaping!

For a lake in the middle of the city, Normandale was great. I can be a harsh judge when it comes to nature spots (thus the 4-star rating). If you are in the area you should definitely visit. It's a nice place to relax and unwind.
You never completely feel like you're out of the city and the lake water is a bit stagnant. However, there is a cool waterfall and a legitimate 45 minute walking trail around the lake. My best friend, my daughter and her boyfriend had a wonderful time.

The youth sports programs however, needs to be assessed, upgraded and re-delivered with the level of quality and excellence our already at risk young community of children deserve. The quality of delivery and the expectations on both young people and adults/coaches is below measure and tough to watch. We have work to do there. Mike can’t do everything and many parents are questioning the competencies and qualifications of the park director(s). It’s time for change and an elevated delivery across the board. Particularly with what we ask of our parents. If they’re allowed to show up late, disrespect one another go through the motions and be entirely lackluster then why should we expect anything different from our children in their programs? We have to do better, yesterday.

Staff is very friendly and helpful. They truly care about the kids. Good place for inner city recreation programs. The lunch/meal programs for kids is nice who may not have a place to eat elsewhere. In the summer, it can get kinda rowdy and may not be the best place for people to hang out....it's great if you live nearby and it's the only place to go or have your teens go for teen night on the weekends, but there are safer parks in the system to visit.
