This tour starts with a self guided tour of the Museum showing the history of Bundaberg rum which is very informative and jovial at the same time, and yes the polar bear is there. What follows next is a tour of where they make the rum. Our guides for the day were G and Taylor and they were fantastic, very knowledgeable and also full of “dad” jokes. Note you are not allowed to take cameras, phones, anything electrical whilst on the tour, this is for safety reasons. At the end of the tour you get to have two drinks of any of their range. Don’t worry if you are not normally a rum drinker as they will help you choose an alternative to your normal tipple. It is advised to book ahead as they can sell out. But I really think it is a must do when visiting Bundaberg.

I'm not that interested in aviation so didn't think I'd enjoy this visit much but there's so much personal information about the man himself(with the exception of his complicated marital life) that you quickly become intrigued by him. There's also quite a few hands on exhibits for the kids too to keep them amused as well as three short films. A special touch is his English home that was shipped over and re erected on site. Allow about an hour for a visit. The added bonus is the botanic gardens and cafe immediately on hand. Staff are very friendly too and there is a reasonably priced gift shop.

It originally was the sugar mills manger’s residence for Bundaberg Sugar and was carefully moved to this site. There was little to interest children however and the whole visit only lasts about 30 minutes. Don't go out of your way to visit but it's worth a quick exploration on the combined ticket with the Hinkler Aviation museum and Heritage centre. The botanic gardens provide its setting with its handy cafe nearby. Visiting times are restricted so you need to plan ahead.

The talent and emotions in the pieces made it hard to believe the age of these artists. Truly astonishing. Aside from the art the staff are some of the friendliest I have met (especially Sandy). They not only know everything about gallery but also Bundaberg and the surrounding area. This knowledge really enriched our road trip. Yes, I did ask permission before I took the photos =D

We were lucky enough to sit in the front where there are 6 seats but there is plenty of seating inside as well as on top of the boat as well. Note there is no shade if you sit on top or in the front so do wear a hat and bring your sunscreen, but if you do forget they do have these on board as well. The Captain is your tour guide and he gives a very informative information about the Burnett River and the surrounding areas, along with a few dad jokes thrown in as well. Lisa was the perfect hostess and made sure we didn’t miss out on the pastries and tea and coffee. There is a full bar inside which is really reasonably priced so if you feel like a drink along the way this is perfect. The cruise was 2 1/2 hours long and goes all the way where the river meets the sea. Towards the end of the trip the Captain pulled out a saxophone and played happy birthday to one of our party followed by a couple of jazzy tunes and boy can he play. Look to be honest there isn’t a lot to see along the way, but if you do visit Bundaberg this is a must thing to do. Also, if you are travelling with someone in a wheelchair, there is wheelchair access as well.

To top it all off, we were there over Halloween weekend, and the team at Splitters Farm had set up the property spectacularly! The atmosphere was so fun and festive, and the activities they organised for the kids kept everyone entertained. We really enjoy the selection of craft beers, ciders and wines from the local and Australian breweries. It has such a great atmosphere with fantastic live music whiles drinking nice cold brews on the deck and eating a selection of tasty foods.. Kids had a ball too... We are from Brisbane and came to Bundaberg for a Family holiday over the Christmas break. I spoke to some local people in Bundy and they mentioned something about this place a couple days prior... And I'm so glad they did as this was one of the best nights we had in Bundy.. I wish I could have something like this in my home town in Brisbane.. I would like to thank all the staff and even the security on the door which were so helpful, even telling us about some great beaches to visit whole up there.. Thanks Guys🍻

The girls at the kiosk are generally really great and super helpful and they would do anything they can to help you. I would have given a 5 star but I was disappointed by the service my 11 year old daughter and I got from Courtney. She was very abrupt with my daughter who went to the desk first to ask if lessons were at Norville today. Then when I came, she virtually ignored us as we were waiting to sign in. We waited a while before Alex came to our aid. It's pretty unusual for that to happen from the staff. To make matters worse, after signing in, my little one's class got changed( nothing they could do really i guess) but it was super sad because she had looked forward to her lesson with her new teacher Trina, who was super amazing with her previous week as a trial and she couldn't wait to swim with her again(she didn't want to swim anymore due to change of level, instructor and renovations). I guess the experience just wasn't great today. Thanksfully Alex sorted me out in the end. But would I recommend BSA? Absolutely!! But some of the staff must step up on service to everyone, no matter the ethnicity! Otherwise, great place for the kids to learn to swim!!

READ BEFORE YOU GO! I’ve seen so many complaining and frustrated with Bulburin so this is a warning for those who haven’t been there yet. The Bulburin of heyday is long gone; the park has been intentionally neglected for years and most of the roads are now closed or impassable - don’t believe the roads you see in Google Maps, the only ones open are the Dawes Range Rd, 4wd Loop (aka Scenic Route) and access roads from Builyan and Bruce Hwy. The road that used to follow along Granite Creek is now locked with a gate. Only dirt bikes and MTBs (if you’re really keen) may sneak in, but you’ll be forced to go up the range until it meets the 4wd loop (a 420m hillclimb). The turnoff to the creek and its cascades and pools is now unrecognisable and permanently covered by the forest. Forget the photos and videos you saw on YouTube - that’s gone forever. Note: Granite Creek only runs after several weeks of consistent rain. It’s bone dry most of the year. Several other roads (once used by the log trucks) are closed and the forest has taken them over. Dawes Range Rd is doable on a car with good ground clearance when it’s dry (AWD will suffice if it’s not wet). BUT BRING A CHAINSAW WITH YOU as trees frequently fall and block the road for months - National Parks do not look after the roads - as this has happened 3 times with me and ruined my plans. No warnings are put in the NP website for these. The 4wd Loop is tougher and be prepared to scratch the hell out of your car - overgrown vegetation all the way. It’s fine and chill in dry conditions except the section between Zamia and Range View campgrounds - this section is basically a steep down and uphill track that’s heavily eroded by rain and never maintained. Gets worse every year. A good 4wd is required - a stock Prado won’t make it. Again, you may find a fallen tree blocking your way. Be very careful as the park is well known for its large population of red bellied black snakes, eastern browns and coastal taipans. You’ll definitely see them there. They love hanging around the tall grass around the camping sites. I still like Bulburin for how quiet it is - definitely off the beaten path. It’s cooler up there in the forest and you can see a lot of beautiful birds. Sadly, swimming and bushwalking are no longer options since all the old trails are now closed and blocked by the forest. You can still enjoy driving your 4wd or riding your dirt bike over there.
