You can see quite a few Microbats of different types depending on what they have rescued and are in care still. Close up viewing and great for photography. In my opinion, they have some of the best chocolate and cheese in Cairns plus getting to watch the cheese and chocolate making in action is always a treat. The hot food menu is consistently top-notch, especially when you can enjoy it overlooking the beautiful views of the countryside. The large indoor restaurant is comfortable but can get a bit cool at times, so I generally bring along a jacket just in case. It's pretty climby and trails like "Stairway to Heaven" are a real tester, but it's worth it for descents like "Yahoo Wahoo." I approached them over a year ago regarding transmission issues. I didnt know anything about transmissions and the engine code had advised it was a solenoid issue. All they did was flush my transmission oil and change the filter etc. This still did not fix the issue. I was charged min 139 dollars each time I went. Which was every 2 weeks maximum 10 times. So you could imagine how much money I gave these guys. When my transmission oil was still black after many flushes they said I'd probably need a whole new transmission in my car and asked if I was thinking of selling it or fixing it and if I chose to sell it they would buy it from me. I decided to take it to a cairns automatic place. The only thing wrong with it was the solenoid needed replacing and they had to do a relearn. It's been 3 months since it has been fixed and no slipping, no black transmission oil and is working completely fine. I even drove from Cairns to the Gold coast and no issues at all. I feel deeply ripped off and frauded as I gave this business more money than it cost to actually fix the issue with another company. Would not recommend.

It could be, but not right now. This is the second time I’ve done it and there’s been no maintenance from then to now. The actual rail trail ends at Walkamin, the surface of the trail is poor, with patches and deepish crushed granite that slows your travel heaps. It doesn’t help that the farmers drive tractors along it. The Rocky Creek section is washed out and certainly not family friendly anymore. The section from Walkamin to Mareeba now looks like work is being done with the track fully opened up by dozers and leveled but it’s tough riding with a loose surface. It’ll be great when this is finished. There’s very few info boards, no seating for a break, no photo opportunities for socials which families love to do. More needs to be done to make this a great rail trail.

Many wonderful features, including a council building that can be booked for events, with public toilets always open. Magic views, great for taking photos. I went twice and both times I did the short trail (about 30 minutes walking). If it hasn’t rained, the path is fine, but if it’s very humid, it gets quite slippery because of the mud and can be a bit dangerous. But around the waterfall and on the trail there are loads of them. So I 100% recommend wearing closed shoes and long socks. Some were really big—I'll attach a photo.
