As a young man - hippie - I had left home to go to NM to be a part of the communal living culture in the Sangre de Christo Mtns. The old town plaza was a beautiful gathering place for Native Americans , hippies and tourists to gather to buy and sell jewelry, fruit , veggies and other commodities 🙄. The plaza had a very small underground building- the Taos Police Department. They always were amazing and accepted the various cultures that congregated. The festivals that were held there were enchanting- the Southwestern aromas of food cooking filled the air. The artwork , crafts and jewelry is absolutely insane. The memories I hold dear in my heart always come front and center - feelings from deep inside of me filling my body with memories, warmth and affection. All the old town plazas in NM are a must see highlight of any trip that one may take. The architecture, colors , Beauty wherever one may look are breathtaking and the food is exquisite. The shops that surround the plaza offer items that become centerpieces of collections from your travels This is a must see place.i go back as often as i can.

It was like going to four museums in one. The new wing with permanent collection of Taos artists from a century ago is superb. An exhibit of living artists opened in the annex at the very moment we were getting our admission sorted out. I think one of my friend's favorite painting was here. The current exhibit in that area is of Fechin's portraits, some cross referenced to artists whose paintings in the new annex. This is one of the most magical museums I’ve ever been to. The home was constructed in the. 1930s and is an amazing blend of rustic southwestern style and Russian folk art. The artist, Fechin, who constructed the home for his family, was brilliant. His paintings, sculptures and woodwork are on display throughout the house and are breathtaking. The detail in the doors, windows and furnishings is nothing like you’ll ever see anywhere else. There are limited options in Taos for fine dining and I spent time narrowing it down for my boyfriend’s birthday dinner to make it special. Regarding the food- the steak was very nice and well accompanied but the salmon was undercooked even for medium rare and the sides were overly sweet. Our first stop was at Chimayo and we saw the Santuario de Chimayó, perhaps the most beautiful of the old churches along the route, though interior photos are not allowed. We strolled down past the square to see other galleries and museums all closed on the day we visited. Hard to find free parking as most lots charge $5 payable by card but we parked several blocks away and walked. We plan on taking the part of the enchanted loop around Taos and low road back.

I nearly fell onto the lanes while releasing the ball because of the inability to slide due to the house shoes being so dirty from the floors.
