I recently visited The Village Restaurant in Plymouth, seeking a delightful seafood experience, but was met with disappointment. Despite my explicit request to exclude mussels from my order, the dish presented to me contained them. When I brought this to their attention, the staff merely removed the mussels without addressing the lingering flavour that had already tainted the entire meal. The situation further deteriorated when the waiter offered additional prawns, to which I inquired about adding scallops as well. Upon learning of the extra cost, I politely declined. However, to my astonishment, I overheard the waiter informing the kitchen of my supposed agreement to the extra charge. I immediately clarified that I did not want the addition, yet, a plate of prawns and scallops was served to me shortly after. I reiterated my refusal, especially when informed of the extra cost, yet the staff insisted it was my error. Their claim of not pressuring me felt insincere, especially as they argued that the kitchen had already prepared the dish promptly. I stood firm in my refusal to pay the additional cost. Out of curiosity, I tasted the scallops, only to find them excessively salty and unpleasant. Frankly, I cannot recommend The Village Restaurant. The restaurant is in a convenient location right on the historic Barbican. The restaurant is small, bu the atmosphere is homely - it really does feel like you’ve stepped into someone’s front room rather than a typical restaurant. It’s family-run and has a lovely, authentic vibe. It was quite busy when we went, and the space between tables was a little tight, which made it feel a bit crowded. Service was overall good. One of the ladies who served us was welcoming, but the other seemed a bit indifferent, perhaps due to the busy lunchtime rush. The menu is quite big with a Greek twist. We ordered fish and chips and the seafood platter, and both dishes were absolutely spot on. The portions were generous, and the seafood was incredibly fresh. The tarama was freshly made and very tasty. You can tell they take pride in what they serve - truly delicious food. All in all, we had a very good experience and would definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area.

Lots of them so what do they all know that we currently did not…. Greeted straight away, given a table and menu which was actually three menus quite vast selection. I opted for Greek then changed my mind to seafood settled on a mixed grill then ordered Greek. If you are indecisive make sure you allocate more time here. I was swayed by the table next to me having moussaka as it looked superb. My partner who’s a catch went for the cold seafood which she received in abundance personally sometimes seafood I find it to be a little small for me but this plate was full so much so I had to assist. During this time I observed other plates and food envy is high everything just looked amazing not that I would have swapped mine I just wished I could eat 6 or 7 plates… as mentioned it’s not dazzling here there’s nothing spectacular about the place like the other ‘fancy’ big chain restaurants we looked into but they don’t need it. It’s all about the food which was spectacular and for me if I’m going out eating it’s my only concern to be honest I don’t feel they are trying to impress they are just doing food and doing it very well that it impresses you as standard. You want good food here it is. The service I also thought was great very attentive we were serviced very well only slight issue was with the amount of head on the beer, we asked, they fixed, problem solved. I would say prices were good too, living in Newquay where your stung as a tourist everyday it was nice to be a tourist and be saving money whilst vastly improving the quality and experience. I am looking forward to returning who knows what I will go for next… we all know it’s fish…pie.. of the day..pasta definitely something from the menu and of no doubt it will be great.

The skin was so crispy, and the simplicity of lemon and salt really allowed the fish’s flavour to stand out. We also ordered the bitoque and I LOVED the rice. It was very fragrant and flavourful, while the steak was covered in a creamy and slightly sour sauce. Normally I don’t like sour flavours that much but this sauce had just the right amount! I don’t know why but I couldn’t stop eating the fries as well! The temperature inside was a bit hot but there’s outdoor seats which would be cooler. The environment and decor was very comfortable though, and it seems like a place where locals frequent. I really liked the giant palmier from the bakery and I’ll have to come back with an empty stomach to try the rest of the baked goods! I also loved that there’s a little grocery area because I’ve never tried Portuguese drinks before and I was able to buy some juice to bring home!

One escalator was out of action but all good apart from that. The staff are very friendly and polite and the store is orderly. A simple question that could’ve been solved with a simple “sorry we don’t stock that” I won’t be shopping with this company again, maybe boots won’t judge me for simply being a young adult who wanted to get someone a nice gift.
