After tonight though, we won’t be back. The price for their ice cream does not justify what you get. Tonight, my entire cone was EMPTY with one scoop sitting on top. I paid almost $8 for this. For my family of five, our bill came out to almost $50. I asked the server if it was normal to have an empty ice cream cone and was told that yes, it is, since the ice cream is hard and they don’t want to break the cone to push it down. Most ice cream places would put small scoops in to fill the cone and then give you one scoop on top to complete the serving. I’ve never paid so much and gotten so little. We left feeling ripped off and disappointed. We’ll be finding a new go to ice cream place in town in the future.

Very frustrating - especially when I had just told the shop owner we live 1.5 hours away and was also purchasing another item at this visit. We visit this shop several times during the summer months but will not go back now. Really sad. Especially when I had just said we would be back to purchase the PJ’s right before we go on vacation. Now I’ll just purchase online e and save myself a trip!! My trip a few weeks before was a $270 purchase. But no more…

UPDATE: There were only two sets of customers in the store (the two ladies who came together and had ALREADY purchased when we came into the store, as the owner looked us in the eye and DID NOT speak). My husband and I were the other set of customers and pretty HARD TO MISS. No one else was in the store. We believe it was strategic that the other set of customers did not leave until "we" left. They then felt it safe to leave. I am glad that you agreed to be more aware of this as more and more diverse customers visit St. Joseph and the Mercantile, it is even more important to be friendly, inclusive, and welcoming. My family and I were spending the day together going to the different kid toy stores and decided to check out Oh My Darlings. My husband wanted to be courteous to let the older lady working the register know right when we walked in the door that we had just bought the truck in my son’s hand at The Toy Company. Mind you we had just walked in the door, she saw us just walk in the door with the truck in my sons hand, and my husband hadn’t put my son down yet to check out the toys in the store. Had maybe been in there 30 seconds. We said “sorry, no we didn’t get a receipt but we just walked in the door and wanted to be courteous and tell you where this toy came from so there was no confusion” (also the sticker on the bottom of the truck said “The Toy Co.”). She demanded again that she needed a receipt and said “how am I supposed to know if that toy came from this store or another?”. We then explained again that this is why we said something in the first place. My husband and I honestly thought this lady was joking at first because we couldn’t believe how rude and accusing she was being toward us. We do get that it’s an understandable request to see a receipt but we were floored at how we were being spoken to. I’ve never experienced anything like it. The last straw was as she said, “you young people don’t think receipts are important but they are for reasons like this”. That’s when we let her know that we didn’t appreciate how she was treating us and if it was that big of an issue we would GLADLY take our business elsewhere. Having worked in customer service, there are so many other ways to kindly ask and explain to customers that you need to see a receipt. That’s probably the worst way I could think of. I don’t know if she was just having a bad day or if she has an issue with young people and receipts, but she clearly decided to take it out on us. Sadly, we will not be back. It looked like a great store.
