Steeped in a fascinating history, we were taken around the Castle by our tour guide (Steve). Each element was carefully described in such detail. The tour is included in the admission fee and just join at the entrance/ shop at the advertised times. Alternatively, there’s the option to just explore independently and visit the various other exhibits. There are amazing views of the town and surrounding islands from the top of the Castle. So much to take in from distant history to the occupation in the WW2. Parking is available nearby with a cafe and toilets available within the Castle grounds. It starts at 10.30 am. I would really recommend it. Our wonderful guide, Charlie, was not only knowledgeable, but passionate. The castle is an absolute treasure trove of history and a stark reminder of what the islanders suffered during the war. There is a very loud gun salute at midday. Also the cafe served homemade walnut cake, which was delicious, and a very good pot of tea - as someone who drinks a lot of tea (it really is the answer to every problem), this is the true mark of a great cafe. I bought delightful hand painted Christmas baubles depicting Guernsey in the gift shop. If you are visiting Guernsey, you must go.

I found it be a very reasonable size, lanes not too busy. My issue is no staff poolside enforce people showering before they get in the pool and it’s gross. The lifeguards have also let children and beginners who can’t do a full lap in lanes very occasionally. The timetable is quite full so it can be difficult sometimes to find the right time to come. Glad to see they have adults only times once a week as well. The facilities are good - changing rooms were clean, and the shower cubicles are very spacious. The cafe is nice to visit afterward for a snack and drink. Had an iced coffee which was reasonably priced and tasted good :)

You have some truly lovely staff working there. I always recall them smiling and being very helpful with luggage. If you’re lucky you’ll see the most adorable black cat I’ve ever encountered! She is so friendly and loving and great with kids - she visits from next door. If you have a car, a space can be arranged in the little car park just down the road which is a bonus for Saint Peter Port. Location wise it’s absolutely ideal, you can easily walk to the town church within the space of 15 minutes and you get to Victor Hugo’s house along the way! If you’re choosing to come to Guernsey for a week or two, I couldn’t recommend a better place⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
