Our experience at Kiawah River was everything we imagined and more. The community is unlike any other, offering stunning boating and water views, a pool that overlooks the river, exquisite dining options, a relaxing spa, a well-stocked grocery market, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and gorgeous accommodations. This community also offers a beautiful real estate portfolio with timeless design and top tier details.
During our stay, we enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Dunlin Resort Hotel, followed by a safari water tour where we spotted a beautiful Spoonbill bird, countless dolphins, and even learned about oyster bedding. The property itself is filled with walking paths, pickleball courts, a flower farm, markets, and endless opportunities to unwind.
Kiawah River truly is the perfect relaxing getaway—peaceful, scenic, and full of thoughtful amenities. Best of all, it’s only 45 minutes from downtown Charleston and just a few miles from Kiawah Island, making it an ideal escape with easy access to everything you could want.

A friend is considering buying into this new community. The wildlife here is so beautiful to watch...cows with heron friends...goats with human friends..《goat yoga》 and lots of pelicans hanging out. BUYER BEWARE! We purchased a rental property last year - expecting this to be a long-term, solid investment. Unfortunately, we didn't know nor were made aware of the changes that they would implement. Officially today, the powers-to-be, who are short sited and greedy, have initiated a $60 per day per room fee for any short term renters to access the amenities. This additional fee makes any investment property not competitive with other options in the area. If you plan on living at Kiawah River full time, this may still be an option, but when we were looking at investment properties, this major decision wasn't disclosed or even hinted that it would be an option down the road. This type of miscommunication or deliberate intent of not disclosing would make me cautious of purchasing any property here; as you don't know what other changes they may make down the road that are selfish and not in the best interest of the community.
After owning and investing in multiple properties over the years, I would say this is the worst experience I have ever had. If you are looking to purchase a property, ours will be on the market in the near future.

The score is only related to the customer service. Not the location, beauty or concept. I think this place has a crazy amount of potential. We spent the better part of a day there with a very pleasant rep driving around, looking at the amenities, chatting about the future, etc. My wife and I were really excited. Since our visit - no calls, emails or any kind of follow up from them. I've emailed a couple of times. Nothing. That's really left a bad taste. Hard to pay millions of dollars to an entity with poor customer service. If they can't follow up with me, can they execute / deliver on anything else they say? In the long run it still could be worth the investment. If they has just followed up and made us feel like this was a good fit, it could have been a done deal.

I thought this was a nice list place. In addition to the diner, there’s a small grocery shopping area that was really cool. There’s also a gift shop so it has a little bit of everything.
I got the Roast Pork and Gravy and my wife got a burger without the bun on top of a salad. I thought the food was good. We had just come from the Angel Tree which isn’t too far from the restaurant.
Give the place a try. Very nice waitstaff. They’ll treat you right.

Stono Market and Tomato Shed is a must-visit if you are anywhere nearby. It is well worth the trip. If I lived in the area, I would be there at least once a week.
The environment is cozy casual and country as it gets. We were warmly welcomed, and put on a short wait list and offered a seat on the comfortable front porch swing.
We were seated, given menus, specials were explained and offered drinks.
The whole place has the feel of home. Multiple lovely waitstaff served us through our visit and the best I can describe the waitstaff - it is like being served by your favorite aunt
The flavor of my shrimp and grits was uniquely our of this world. A blend of savory sauce on top of creamy grits covered with plenty of shrimp. My wife's Crab Cakes were properly cooked and generously portioned. As if it couldn't get any better, the Tomato Pie is a must have savory tangy treat. It is offered as one of the sides.
When we were finished, our "Favorite Aunt" offered us dessert. We said we were full, but i asked if she could talk us into a dessert - she just said "No, if you are full, you are full, I don't want to make you uncomfortable" I love that!
Please shop at the Stono Market there are a lot of local food favorites, sauces, prepared food, and vegetables. Unique decorations and cool books are also available.

Well, after 25 years of visiting the Tomato Shed on a regular basis, you've finally done it. You made a meal that I didn't like. My mother in law (from Michigan) insists on going to the Tomato Shed every time they visit Charleston, which we are always happy to accommodate. This visit, I had the meatloaf. It was well prepared, others at our table thought it was great. I just didn't care for it. No, there was nothing wrong with it. Yes, it looked wonderful, and smelled amazing. I have no valid complaint about it. I just didn't care for it.
So, why am I writing this review? Because it is the first time since moving back home that I didn't absolutely love everything I've had there. Such a rarity needs to be remarked upon.
Our server was awesome (I didn't remember his name, but he was cheerful and fun), the ambience was very pleasant, as always, and the whole experience was excellent. But, for the first time ever, the Tomato Shed was not *perfect*.

I had heard many reviews and suggestions from a local facebook page to try this out and we're glad we made the stop on the way back from the beach. No need to be dressed up, and perfect portions! You feel like you're eating on your grandparents porch. I will say the tomato pie was a let down because I was expecting some sort of bread or crust to go with it but it was mostly onions and tomatoes. Great staff and knowledgeable on the food!
The shrimp plate was the best thing we ate there!

A nice small farmers market on the Betsy Kerrison parkway. If going out to Seabrook or Kiawah get in the left hand turning lane just past the big brick Holy Spirit Church and turn left on to Kiawah River drive. The market is just on the right. Brand new shed style pavilion. No more temporary white tent. A nice mix of produce, some coolers with local shrimp and seafood. Beautiful flower arrangements made on site. A nice shaded seating area. Plenty of veggies, peaches, blueberries, bread and cinnamon rolls. Local honey, sweet grass baskets. More refrigerators on site with local pasta, eggs, milk and more! It's easier to see when leaving the islands - they have a big sign on the parkway.

This was a lovely surprise find. I even turned around after I passed it. The tent area was nicely decorated with flowers. All the produced was marked clearly with names and prices. Fresh fish was Nicely packaged. A cooler next the register held locally made cold brew coffee, pies, pimento cheese and other delights. The staff was very friendly. There were also a few food truck on the side. I chose the seafood truck and got the lobster roll. Best one I have ever had.

Drove from my home town of Goose Creek and the drive was about an hour for about a 25-Mile drive into the greater Charleston area. Traffic and limited access in this area is well known to us locals. My first time visit and we were not disappointed. For this time of season, there were many vendors. There was a big variety of vendors selling their wares. We parked on the outskirts of the entrance because there was a lot of people there already by 10am. Definitely will revisit and leave earlier from my home town. The vendors were really nice and willing to chat with their customers.

Update- The white bread I got was horrible. Dried out- over cooked and couldn't cut the next day. Had to throw it out.
Vendors nice. Just not enough of them. I miss the Maybank location. Seemed to draw in more people just with the traffic flow.

One of the best local farms in the area! Not only do they have great meats and produce, but they also provide education on what's it like to own and operate a farm. They also have a "rolling farm" which is a bus that goes around the county offering their foods to those who can't make it out to their farm. They truly are great people, an incredible family that cares about their community. I’ve never been here before this past weekend, so I can’t tell if this place used to be great and has gone downhill, but it was pretty bad. The “animal barnyard” was sad and depressing. Part of the area looked like a graveyard for old and broken toys. The hayride to feed the cows was the highlight, but would not go back just for that. Old Wide Awake was the most incredible venue we could have ever chosen for our wedding day. We will forever cherish this beautiful place and the charming town of Hollywood, SC. Our guests couldn’t stop raving about how southern, romantic, and truly stunning the venue was. It felt like a dream from start to finish.
The historic house was not only gorgeous, but also offered so many wonderful getting-ready spaces for both the girls and the guys. One of my favorite memories was getting our makeup done on the porch—being able to look out and watch everything being set up made the day feel even more special.

I had my wedding at Hart Meadows Ranch a couple weeks ago and I couldn’t have asked for anything more! Andrea and her staff were so helpful and kind and made sure everything was perfect for the big day! They are very organized and worked well with my vendors to ensure the ceremony went seamlessly. The venue is absolutely beautiful and my guests kept letting me know how much they loved this venue and its beauty. My favorite parts about the venue is the outside private grounds as it has so many areas to take beautiful pictures and the nature with all the plants and trees. The yurt was also the perfect place for the bridesmaids and I to get ready.

Choosing The Carolina Girl Yacht for our wedding was one of the best decisions we made. From the moment we toured the boat, we knew we were in great hands and had to book it. The entire crew was absolutely amazing, professional, kind, and so detail-oriented. Through months of meticulous planning, they ensured everything ran perfectly on our big day.
Courtney was incredible in helping us coordinate the ceremony and managed to fit all of our guests comfortably up top, it was stunning. The crew even helped us set up a few decor items and made us feel completely supported throughout. My husband and I were lucky enough to have our wedding on the Carolina Girl on 5/3/2025. Everything was absolutely perfect!
The entire process from start to finish could not have gone more smooth. Courtney promptly let us come see the boat and outlined all of the cost/amenities/aspects of having a wedding onboard. Day 1, I was sold!
Camille was our point person during the entire planning process and was absolutely fantastic! She answered a million questions and gave the best advice. I can’t say enough great things about her! Listen to her and you will have an unforgettable experience.
Kayla, the day of coordinator, was absolutely on point! She took care of our needs before we even knew we had them. She made plates for us and even figured out how to bustle my dress when my mom forgot lol. She had every little detail under control with a smile!
The other crew members were amazing as well! Extremely professional, fun to be around, and seriously made our day the best! We are forever grateful for how well everything went! If there were any issues, we didn’t know.
A piece of advice for future attendants would be to go with the Carolina Girl’s recommended list of vendors. We chose every vendor off of their lists/reccs, and they were all so perfect! Definitely trust their expertise. They have been doing this for a long time.

If I could give more Thant 5 stars, I would do it over and over! I had my wedding reception aboard The Carolina Girl Yacht in June 2021! We had a destination wedding in Charleston, SC with 70 of our closest friends and family attending and each of the guests are still talking about our experience on the yacht!
Our experience the day of the wedding was exceptional! The yacht was stunning, super clean and had executed every detail we had planned perfectly! When we arrived on the boat, every single staff member treated us like royalty and made sure the entire event went on flawlessly! We had so much fun with our guests and the staff as well!
Prior to the day of, I had excellent communication with both Camille and Courtney! This team made sure that every detail I had in my mind was executed beautifully! I was lucky enough to get a tour with Captain Bob and we had so much fun with him and really enjoyed hearing him speak of the yacht and his family owned business so passionately!
I truly credit The Carolina Girl for our dream wedding day! The views from the boat were stunning the entire time! We were lucky enough to see several dolphins and the kids and grandparents were equally excited!
My brother in law (pictured here) is in a wheelchair and they made his experience wonderful!

We held our wedding here 11 MAY 2024. Sarah is the best!! She is so easy to work with, and her staff on site day-of were excellent and helpful. They have a list of vendors to choose from, but a wide variety of price points. The tent is permanently fixed which was a huge relief for planning weather backups, and the layout of the entire venue is smart and functional. We were able to personalize by bringing in our own vendors, but needed minimal decorations due to the natural beauty of the place! Wingate Plantation was a no brainer for us. My husband and I live on Johns Island and had driven by it several times, so when it came time to choose a venue, this was our first (and ended up being our only) consideration. You can tell from the pictures that it is a beautiful setting, but seeing it in person was even better. We chose to have both our ceremony and reception at Wingate, and everything was flawless throughout the entire day. The bridal suite was fantastic, and was perfect for myself, 8 bridesmaids, and my mother to get ready in that morning. It's unlike any other venue in Charleston that I've been to, but still has the "Southern charm" we were looking for. We have received countless compliments from our guests about the setting.
Sarah was an absolute pleasure to work with. She was responsive, organized, and accomodating throughout the entire process. She made our lives so much easier!
I really could go on and on about how wonderful our experience was with Wingate. Truly positive from start to end, and I would recommend it to anyone!

There is a big church, a little chapel… two huge parish halls, dressing rooms, two sacristies, two kitchens, and one industrial kitchen. The metal island prep table is huge, and there is a beautiful industrial stove!
They have a beautiful promenade that winds from the big church to the Sunday school Rooms. A wedding processional would be absolutely beautiful!
There is a lovely graveyard that dates back to the 1700s! The outside chapel is next to Ellis Creek, under beautiful Live Oak trees! There are four half pews on either side of the earth aisle. And the cross…. Huge! The simplicity is grand!
Also, there is a beautiful steeple!!!
When you walk on the property, you feel the presence of sacred space, and I was filled with awe, peace, and the presence of the Holy Spirit!
As my Daughter of the King sister and I returned to my car, I remained in awe of this sacred space. I can't wait to return and attend a Sunday service.

This place is amazing! I participated in the G.O.A.T 5k this year and it was my first time coming to the farm & SC. The drive out here alone is so stunning. The 5k was so fun and very well organized! The farm manager and all the staff were so nice. The animals were all well taken care of also. We enjoyed goat yoga and It was so fun(for all ages🥰) watching the goats frolic around. What a beautiful place! I really want to come back next year and do the race again.
