Only downside is I wish the seats were a little bit bigger so you’d have more room to kinda stretch out and be comfortable, but that definitely will not stop me from ever going back!

While there, we found this little gem tucked away on Park Street. If you’re in the area do yourself a favor and stop in - we had a wonderful visit and shopping experience. She was knowledgeable and very patient and friendly. The Fairview Homestead is operated by volunteers, and she took time away from work to give us a tour of the homestead house. The volunteers have been working hard to obtain period artifacts to enhance the experience. Well, it is working! There is a treasure trove of furniture, household items, and related artifacts. It is definitely worth multiple visits to absorb everything and to see what new items have been added. They are also providing opportunities for young people to get a chance to see what it was like in the days before electronic technology. Walking through the community garden was very enjoyable, and we saw sorghum (as in molasses) in its plant form! I took one star off because there is still a lot to do and preserve. The previous stewards did not maintain the property, and you see evidence of that in the tractors out in the elements with rotting tires and rusting parts. This IS NOT the current group of volunteers' fault. They are a relatively small group and have set their priorities and developed a great plan for complete restoration of the property. If you live in the area and have a love of history, consider becoming a volunteer!

It had been on mine forever. Just a side note, the part of the trail that is all downhill was washed out by Hurricane Helene. It was very hot out and we almost didn’t go, but so glad we did. We rented e-bikes and started on the trail next to the visitor center. You can ride the full way and back or schedule a shuttle to pick you up in Damascus and bring you back. We decided to ride to the halfway point at Alvarado and ride back. The e-bikes are a must if you are going for the experience. They have wider seats and you can use them as little or as much help as you want. You are still peddling and getting exercise. The trail from Abingdon to Damascus is shaped like a shallow bowl. So the first part of your trip will be a little easier. In Alvarado, there are restrooms and a small gift shop with drink and ice cream. Also a beautiful place by the river to sit. The trail is covered most of the time by trees and a lot cooler than in the sun. There are 1 or 2 gates you have to open and 1 or 2 places you have to cross a road. There are bridges you have to rode across. These were my favorite! They also have trailers to pull if you are bringing kids. This was a great experience and we will definitely be doing this again!

Very nice area with much to do and see. Plenty of parking in all areas/points if the Creeper Trail. Highly recommend for some great gravel riding alongside great fast flat trails with your sprinkle of technical. Love seeing the local art around the area too! Plenty of areas to stay too, cottages/cabins, etc. along the trail. Highly recommend for the event or to visit! 10/10! 🙌

Arrived at 3:30 and there happened to be a passing storm in the distance. So naturally for everyone’s safety they started a 30 minute “pool closed” timer. I left at 5:15 because the children that lifeguard the pool claimed to have kept hearing thunder and continued to restart the 30 minute timer each time they supposedly heard thunder. I understand the need for precaution but me, along with everyone else heard NO thunder. Furthermore I didn’t understand how the lifeguards could’ve heard any thunder, based on the fact they were all huddled up talking loudly, and playing/dribbling a ball together. When any patrons would ask how much longer until the pool would be open, the young lifeguards would be short and disrespectful by saying “I don’t know, I haven’t been inside to check” This is unacceptable. I suggest there needs to be an announcement made over the intercom or a digital clock posted outside for paying patrons to know the status. I also watched the ball that the lifeguards were playing with, almost hit someone while they were walking to the bathroom. They have big basket it call area, that I take them to play in whenever they make us get out of the pool for about 15 -20 minutes to clean it, and for the lifegrauds to jump and cool off in a second. They have huge locker rooms and showers, and this spin thing that you put your wet clothes/swim suits in and it will spin them almost dry , so you don't have to put any wet clothes in your bag , going home.
