This place gets super busy, so if you work downtown I suggest trying to get there around 11:30 - 11:45 on a work day. Staff is super friendly and the food came out fairly quick considering the amount of orders they were taking. Decent amount of seating and it looks like they are expanding into the neighbouring shop as well to add more seating. Also found out that the kitchen closes an hour before they close so make sure to get there before then. Came here for a late dinner and was surprised to see it quite decently busy. The place was small but enough to seat several guests. The menu looked ok and the prices were comparable to the current price points. The restaurant was not even close to capacity I would say not even beyond 75% of their capacity. If your kitchen, bar, and wait staff completely fall apart under the stress of an average Sunday late lunch/early dinner crowd I don’t know how they can operate on a Friday night. There are a number of other restaurants in the city running a tighter operation in a smaller space, with substantially less wait times. If you’re looking for Mexican/South American food, there’s a lot of better options.

I ordered the Pork Tamale, Chicken Tostada, Pork Pastor and Beef Tongue Tacos. You also get a complimentary salsa so I asked for med and spicy. The Tamale was perfect, moist and rich in flavour and texture. A little dip in the salsa capped the taste experience. The Tostada was topped high with chicken, beans, lettuce, sour cream and cheese. Wow, at first bite I was drawn in. I don’t normally get Tostada’s cause they are messy and hard to eat. I put my insecurities aside and dove in, enjoy each and every bite until it was no more! And now the Taco’s, the pork pastor was mouth changing! A few drops of fresh lime and this taco didn’t stand a chance. The rich flavours will alone drag me back for a second visit. The beef tongue was also good but within its own simplicity. These tacos don’t boast lettuce and other condiments, just a delicious corn tortilla, cilantro/onion and the star protein. I enjoyed being able to taste the beef tongue and not have to work through all the other accoutrements. Simple yet delectable, especially once you marry it to one of the incredible salsa’s that come with the meal. Staff were very friendly and helpful when asked questions about the menu. Store was clean and well merchandised to suite the customers needs, again as a To Go Store. If you haven’t been to Sabores, you MUST put this place on your next culinary venture. You won’t be let down, and if you are perhaps Taco Time if more in your wheelhouse.

We had 4 tacos, tortilla soup with chicken, and also got 3 salsa's to take home which came with a free bag of chips and a carrot cake dessert with a cream cheese filling. Tacos were generously filled and all delicious with the chorizo being my favourite, the soup was tomato based which was very good but I prefer a broth based soup. It came with a large amount of chips, cheese, avocado and some chicken chunks. Salsa's and chips are for dinner tomorrow, and the dessert was excellent, but a little dry. My wife and I LOVE Latin/Mexican food and Calavera did not disappoint. We went on a Saturday night at 18:30 and the place was maybe 15-20% capacity. I would definitely recommend it for a special event. We got the chance to sample different food and beverages over 6 courses where Chef Josh and our server McKenzie told us all about the curated menu. I want to recommend everything but some of the highlights are: Animal fries, pollo loco and pork belly tacos, pealla (might not be on the menu yet but run when it makes it on there) and the carne asada. I love that they also offer pizza, so we can get a mix of cuisine. I rated lower as we've been turned away more than once when trying to get in at dinner time even though the restaurant is half empty, with being told the staff on hand are slammed. That's a management issue though, and doesn't reflect the food or servers. Hopefully that improves over time. A nice addition to the lack of different food options in our area that aren't big franchises.

There is a lovely park across the street and an art piece directly across the street that resembles the Chicago Bean. The interior looks nice and has three all gender washrooms for patrons. Loved the play with violet seating with white pillows. The house beer on tap makes for easy sipping while having your food. A special mention for this spot having Valentina hot sauce in the condiment tray they bring out to you. Since this was meant to be a pit stop before continuing to walk down to Macleod Trail to cross the bridge to be in downtown Calgary, we just had a few things. Did not have a proper meal and don't feel my rating of food should be taken too heavily. There were some scrompous items on the menu. The kitchen must have been busy as there were a few people present watching the hockey game and quite a few pick up orders both in person and delivery services. The waitresses were always busy but pleasant. Was served by all three at some point. Go with what they recommend. Went with the guacamole and chicken tinga taco. The guacamole itself was great but the chips I felt were not "fresh tortillas" as was stated on the menu. I might be wrong and they might have been from the morning or brought in from a supplier. Nevertheless it was good enough. The chicken tinga taco was solid. Given enough of a portion that you like the heft. Pour on some of that hot sauce (other three available too) and you want another one. Not wanting something too heavy I could have gone with either a bean or mushroom taco. Immediately realized my mistake as you cannot put as much beans in a taco and stuff it as high compared to something else. I stared with regret while my friend had a Nashville hot chicken taco. My black bean taco came with the same toppings as my chicken tinga. Wouldn't have minded to try something else, but this was not to be the final destination. I found this place to be an oasis when I needed it the most and was thankful to the "Big Head."

I came here with my friends on an unassuming weekday for happy hour. We ordered loads of tacos ($5 each), margaritas ($5!), and the quesabirria ($7). Overall, the tacos were decent. They definitely aren't as large or as good as the taco trucks you'd randomly find, but they were alright for a restaurant in the city. The quesabirria was a big winner with its immaculate crust, the fish, pastor and carnitas tacos were great, and the drinks were good too. I love to go to Mucho Burrito, but not this location. The portions here are smaller than other locations. Even though therr weren't many customers it sure felt like there was a lack of desire on the part of the staff to interact with customers and to listen closely. The steady line hinted at something special, and it didn’t disappoint. We ultimately chose the Cranberry Chipotle salsa, which turned out to be a group favorite. Tried several places that deserved less then 1 star for horrible food and maleducado staff. Sabres Mexican was pleasantly different.
