They send you a digital key on your phone that doesn’t work consistently even on a good day and God help you if your battery dies. The first night I was here, I almost had a panic attack because I couldn’t work out how to get in, meaning I had to call the staff. Being neuro-divergent, phone calls are one of my biggest triggers and it was an intensely uncomfortable situation just to get in the building. Then the door to my room didn’t work through the night, meaning we had to keep it propped open or risk being locked out. Thankfully this was fixed, but this system is still incredibly flawed.

It seems the staff members cannot prioritise tasks appropriately, leaving customers waiting in awkward silence and dirty tables everywhere. Last time I was there I managed to get severed right after the person in front and the staff member seemed very hesitant to even take my order. Today was on of those days. I looked up hot chocolates in Cardiff on Google and of course a place that has "Chocolate House" in the name pops up. The images online made it look incredible. I was excited. I'd like to say I was greeted. I wasn't. I had to find a staff member. Id understand if it was busy but at around lunchtime on a Tuesday afternoon, it wasn't exactly a full house. The lady who served me was absolutely miserable, I don't recall her name but the sake of this review I'll call her Miss Misery. I asked Miss Misery what hot chocolate she recommended, I had an eye roll and a nonchalant gesture to some chocolate behind her. Having not been here before, Miss Misery pointing at the chocolate variations on the wall didn't exactly mean much. So I asked for a menu seeing as using words wasn't exactly her forte. I couldn't see anything on there that depicted the amazing pictures I saw online and realised that I'd have to engage verbally with Miss Misery once more. She answered my question with a huff and a puff and said I was talking about the specials, but they didn't taste nice, she mumbled something about a bonfire syrup that doesn't taste nice and said there is no point because I can't drink them to go. I honestly lost the will to live speaking with her. If anyone has ever read the Harry Potter books and know what a dementor is then they'd know what I experienced dealing with Miss Misery. "Even Muggles feel their presence, though they can't see them. Get too near a Dementor and every good feeling, every happy memory will be sucked out of you." So I asked for the most popular hot chocolate. £5.90 for a hot chocolate, this has to be some seriously sexy liquid. Honestly stepping back out into the cold and the rain was like feeling the warmth from the sun after it appears from behind the clouds on a cloudy day after dealing with Miss Misery. The room was spacious with a Tv and cozy beds. The price is reasonable but the best aspect for me was the location. This place is very close to railway station, bus stop, city centre. We never faced any issues in the 5 days of stay we had. The breakfast option is really handy with some options which can suit everyone’s palate. The reason I'm giving four stars out of five is because the showers really aren't great and there's no divider so it's easy to get water on your clothes. The shower on my floor was also broken so I had to use the one downstairs, however because there weren't many people this wasn't much of a problem. The wifi in the rooms has also been really touch and go, working really well some days while I can't get a signal for others. Overall these are minor complaints and I would stay here again if I came back to Cardiff.

So if you or someone from your group can’t walk upstairs, or you have a buggy, wheelchair etc this likely isn’t going to be a good place to stay as i doubt it’ll be fixed anytime soon. No way of charging things next to the bed either which was a bit of a shame. Both our key cards ending up breaking by the second night and had to walk down 3 flights of stairs to get new ones. The staff are very friendly though, and none of this is negativity towards them. The building itself has a very beautiful interior and exterior design. All in all, if you just need a safe place to sleep but not spend much time in the room, this would be a good choice. But if you actually need a lift to stay here, or would like to stay in the room during the day, i wouldn’t personally reccomend this hotel.

The staff on the front desk were very welcoming and the family room was like a palace - with two separate rooms in it: one with a superking bed and the other also very spacious with twins. We were not expecting so much space so were pleasantly surprised! The best thing about this hotel is its fantastic, central location, right in front of the castle and a stone's throw away from the start of the high street. Very close to the university campus also, so perfect location for the Cardiff Uni open day. Using the JustPark app, we planned ahead and booked parking in advance on Greyfriars Road which worked well for us, as we were travelling light. This was just a 3-minute walk away. Sadly we didn't get to trial the bar or food as we headed out for the evening (can recommend Pilgrim Pizza nearby!). The only negative was that our room on the top floor was far too warm, but this was mitigated by two fans placed in the rooms, and we opened the windows and turned the radiators down, which helped somewhat (we were visiting on a mild October day). All in all, an excellent stay. We definitely plan to return when we are next in Cardiff. This is a great hotel.

Breakfast Waiting several minutes by the sign to be seated, gave up took my own seat in a restaurant with less than a handful of people. The cooled Breakfast option was hugely disappointing, the food was either cooked too early or the heat lamps are too hot, apart from the beans mushrooms most were inedible. The other option was A cold meat, a group of cheese slices, bowls of spoon your own yoghurt and cereal packets. The restaurant was clean and a member of staff was pleasant. If they had a fresher Breakfast experience, it would make a big difference.

Boiling hot, no air con, windows open very slightly to loud traffic noise. Bathroom had black mold, carpet very dirty, peeling damp wall paper. Dirt and dust everywhere. For starters, despite being called a "Budget" hotel, I thought the pricing was fairly above the budget range I would expect. Staff were lovely and helpful but the room was full of issues. When arriving we checked in and after settling in we decided to go out into the town, we left the room and checked to see if the door had locked, which it hadn’t. This means that our hotel room key card lock had been broken for god knows how long. Staff were really helpful and told us when we were going out to let them know as they will need to fix the door and they’ll do it straight away. The issue is that we then had to carry all of our luggage around when we went out again as we didn’t want to leave them in the room knowing the door was not secure. The bathroom door is also a sliding door and keeps getting stuck open making it really difficult to shut. You have to use quite a bit of force to try and shut the door which then makes quite a loud noise. Other than these issues the location was great as it’s extremely close to the City centre and the train station. As friendly and helpful as the staff are sadly we won’t be staying again due to the safety concern.

To start with , the price was the best in the area for a single room with a private bathroom. The room was sparkling clean, the bed and pillows were very comfortable , there were black out curtains which is very very important to me. Tea and coffee were also provided. We sat on the platform for an hour waiting for our next train....and this young man even came and gave us a nudge when it was the next one due in to the platform which I felt was a lovely touch....not being a seasoned traveller, I wasn't very confident and I think he could tell...so the fact he made the effort to make sure we got on the correct train was extremely nice of him. This young man (I didn't get his name and unfortunately I don't recall the platform he was working) should be commended for his excellent customer service....the other bloke, not so much.....

The nurse who saw me was so friendly and informative. They are honest and fair, and my consultation was great. I will definitely be returning prior to my next trip away. I booked an appointment with Nomads through their central booking system. The man on the phone was helpful and the whole booking process was simple. When I arrived for my appointment I was seen by a lovely lady at reception who took my details and waited a short time to see my nurse. My nurse was simply wonderful! So friendly and personable. We chatted about where I was going and what I might need, as well as the rugby which was just kicking off. I didn't feel rushed at all, and the entire process, even getting a jab, was pleasant. I have already recommended Nomads to others who are going travelling. It is well worth the peace of mind, and definitely worth paying a visit to these lovely people.
