It’s free to enter though, possibly to control guest numbers. When we arrived, we were greeted by a friendly chap who said we will be seeing the Lowry 360. Wasn’t sure what it was, but we were led into a theatre and watched a 6 minute video of the famous Lowry painting of fans going to Bolton Wanderers football club! We highly recommend you do this as the video brought the painting to life! The video filled all the walls, ceiling and floor and you became mesmerised into the painting! It was brilliant!! We then saw the rest of the Lowry paintings and then saw the fabulous Quentin Blake illustrations! I’ve read many books as a child with his illustrations and it was fascinating to see them close up!

Amazing I would highly recommend Lowry 360 after you can walk around the gallery and look at a huge collection of his works plus there's some of his personal items. All for zero cost so be generous and put a little coin into the collection boxes. There is a cafe, restraunt, bar and a well stocked gift shop plus toilets in the building. At the much larger Bridgewater Hall across town, the piano is all too easily drowned out by the orchestra, or, in solo performances, it can sound like it's being played in another room. A very good 45-minute free lunchtime two-part concert of piano and tenor horn and then on came a very good young baritone William Jowett who sang Ibert's 'Quatre chansons de Don Quichotte' accompanied on piano by Hanna Csermely. Same pair popped up in more songs at the Carole Nash Recital room for another free - but shorter - concert at 6.30. Some are excellent for their views and where they're based. I've had to stay in some for purely practical reasons (for a conference or work meeting etc) and so don't get to choose the view or setting...and that was the case for the AC Marriott (Salford Quays). But the service at this hotel has been amongst the best I have come across! From the moment when I had to check in very late (11.30pm) to all interactions with staff (at breakfast, housekeeping etc) it has been excellent. I'd like to single out Siraj (at breakfast) for his wonderfully quick and efficient dealing with my questions and bespoke order and his colleagues who greeted me each morning as I arrived for breakfast. I'd also like to single out the two housekeeping staff (two ladies) who were very understanding about me not needing all housekeeping services but who also responded immediately to any requests (for towels or bottled water). They were exemplary in their need for quietness (especially on Saturday mornings!). All these staff interacted with respect and big smiles! The rooms are clean and functional and I have NO complaints about the room. The breakfast was delicious - again, no complaints. The facilities (shared work space, gym) were exemplary - no complaints. But the staff make a place and if they do it with smiles it makes a huge difference to the experience and elevates a "routine stay" to a thoroughly enjoyable one! Thank you!

First impressions were good - the lobby is clean and smelled good - but that didn't last particularly long unfortunately, due to the inefficiency of the front desk processes. The hotel and staff were great, bed really comfy and slept through the night which is unlike me in a hotel. The main thing that let it down was how the breakfast seating was organised. There was not a week that would pass when wouldn't report about my flatmates' behaviour, uncleanness and the lack of sleep because of the midnight-3am hour noise. My studies have suffered real bad as well as compromised my health due to bad hygiene in shared spaces. WHY I CHOSE THE PLACE: (1) living with flatmates is a great way to know a few people especially when you don't know a soul in the UK. One of my flatmates, Linah❤️ was kind enough to show me around and how things work, bless her🙌🏽 (2) It's quite unfortunate that the university website does not offer a lot of options for international students, especially postgraduates. If you can, which might not be wise as affordable accomodation spaces fill up real quick, do book yourself in a hotel or short term accommodation (a month before schools opens). This will give you a chance to view apartments in person, because online pictures tend to be overrated. You can also check out YouTube vlogs, you'll highly likely see the apartments for what they are and get the sense and energy of people you might find yourself living with, to see if it's worth it pain. ACCOMODATION SUGGESTIONS: I honestly would have preferred ensuite or studio apartment even. So please If you are a POSTGRADUATE, do go to "Manchester student homes" website you'll get a lot of options there before settling for John Lester. If you're considering moving in here or if you're a parent considering it with your child, don't. The shared bathroom is horrible, not just because it's shared with basically complete strangers but also because the layout is terrible and often seemed dirty even with clean neighbors. The same can be said for the shared kitchen which was cramped and had the bare minimum in terms of appliances. The bedrooms are reminiscent of prison cells with, in my case at least, a tiny window above the head of the bed. When I moved in the pull cord for the blind was already broken. Also good luck sleeping with the police department that is right next door with sirens blasting all night. I'm lucky I can sleep through that but others aren't as fortunate. Super easy to book without having to go through a landlord and close to everything, bills included. Great view from some of the rooms overlooking Manchester. But it's cheap so you get what you pay for. Internet isn't the best, stuff often breaks but does get fixed eventually, lift has the ground button missing and is slow. It's a very old building. Depends on what you want. I just needed a bed to sleep and a working kitchen, if you aren't fussy and on a budget this is the best option. It'd be a lot easier if the washers just took change, but instead they have Washstation which barely works. The room was dirty when I moved in, despite having a note saying that the flat was "clean". There wad dust and cobwebs everywhere not to mention sticky carpet stains. We were meant to have a kettle and hoover, but didn't have either for 3 days after asking repeatedly. The kettle supplied was faulty and tripped half the electronics in the kitchen including the fridges, meaning we chucked out food. We eventually got a replacement thanks to the helpful night staff, the day staff aren't particularly helpful. We had no hot water for weeks. This seems like unnecessary whining, but when you are paying for something you expect to get it. Campus Living Villages are a pain as a whole to deal with as I had to pay for an extra term from my savings when I moved from Eddie Colman here, I was told by day staff that if I've already payed for both, but am leaving Eddie Colman that I'd receive a refund, that was a lie, I was later told that it would instead be on my balance on the website and that it will go towards my next payment, I wanted my money back now so that I could pay for next term as my finance comes in, but apparently I would be in debt if I had my balance put back in my bank. How would I be in debt when I've already payed more than I need to? I am hoping that nothing goes wrong and that when my next payment goes out that they do use the balance with some of my direct debit. I can't afford to be overcharged. The flats themselves are spacious and have enough room in the common areas for those living there (7 people within my flat). There was sometimes a fight for fridge/freezer space but i think that comes down to the individuals living with you. The rooms are spacious and modern (i have the basic, bronze room) and after seeing the upgraded 'silver' room, would not pay the extra as it adds a small amount of space. The campus itself is secure in the sense that it only has one entrance/exit, however i have never had my ID checked (nor have my guests), meaning anybody could walk past security. I would also mention that i have heard some bad rumours about the security guards and their 'competitions' to see who can inconvenience us students the most - but this was simply a rumour and could be untrue. The common areas in reception are good and no booking fee is needed for the kitchen, games room or cinema room. The laundry has an awkward system and can sometimes get very full - I would recommend going in the morning to secure a machine. The staff are friendly enough but can sometimes be unhelpful.. especially with the delivery service. This service is slow and staff have been seen manhandling and throwing packages - they also forget to email you when a package has arrived. Negatives considered, it is a convenient, good value-for-money student accommodation and i have met some amazing people living within it.
