I’m not sure if he was a front desk attendant or a manager but if he’s not a manager he should be. When we initially arrived at check in we were greeted by another attendant who took us to a dark, dusty, two bedroom suite in what I think is the Fisher Cottage. The first thing I noticed was the musty, stale smell of the room, the worn furniture, filthy fireplace and dirty walls. We tried to ignore these shortcomings since we knew it was an older property but historic doesn’t excuse inadequate cleaning. From there our evening went from bad to worst once we discovered the air conditioning was inoperable and the room temperature was 80 degrees and rising. In addition to the broken air conditioner the bed frame on the king bed was broken which caused the bed to droop to one side and the numerous area rugs looked as if they hadn’t been shampooed in years. Furniture overall in the entire room was old and wobbly, which caused the room to shake with every step. After seeing the bed was unstable we looked underneath and found a piece of plywood with nails sticking out laying under the bed. I have no idea what this was being used for but the fact that it was left under a wobbly unstable bed is more then concerning. After receiving no response from the supposed 24hr front desk we packed and fully intended to leave the next morning and find other accommodations. That’s when John showed up. John didn’t just call but he walked over to our suite and immediately apologized for what was a hot and miserable night of no sleep. After speaking briefly, John returned within minutes holding the keys to our new room in the Shepherd’s Cottage I believe, as well as providing us with a $75 credit on our bill. While we appreciate this gesture, at $200 a night, the adjustment should have covered a full nights stay. In closing I must say the new room was night and day from the former . It was bright, immaculately cleaned, with all updated fixtures and furniture and most importantly an icy cold fully functional air conditioner and comfy bed. While I feel I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the issues with the Fisher house, we wholeheartedly appreciate the efforts and professionalism John displayed in making the rest of our stay pleasant. In conclusion, while I would like to say that I would gladly return to the Beaufort Inn on my next visit, unfortunately first impressions are lasting impressions. In the future, hopefully this review will ensure that a thorough quality check is completed prior to guests arriving and receiving less than optimal accommodations.

Everywhere I go, people told me I had to visit Beaufort. So, when a chance to spend a few days there with friends who were traveling through the area, I jumped. Beaufort: amazing, beautiful, practically magical with its single-lane roads, water fronts, boutiques, restaurants, and ancient buildings. Hotel Location: Took being in Beaufort up several notches - you can walk to practically everything in that wonderful city. Hotel Itself: Is theoretically wonderful. The room was huge and very nicely laid out. But..... Why this isn't a five-star review: Well, when I was there the room I was in was suffering from a severe case of deferred maintenance. The fridge did not work. And, they were sorry but there was nothing they could do about it on the weekend. For me, as a person who has severe food allergies, being able to store foods I could eat was a problem. I did buy an ice chest and that helped. Then the handle on the front door, which automatically locks when the door is closed, intermittently stopped unlocking to the key. So, if I went out I sometimes couldn't get back in easily. Again, they were very sincerely sorry but, since it was a holiday weekend nothing could be done until next week. In the meantime, if I couldn't get in I could walk around the block to the hotel lobby and someone would come help me get into my room. My friend, when she arrived, suggested blocking the handle's lock with paper then always using the deadbolt to secure the room. That worked very well. I don't mind things failing. Bleep happens. I am very concerned that the hotel was unable to repair those things pretty quickly. They did apologize and did deduct a significant amount from my bill. So, I don't know. So much is right about Beaufort and about this hotel. I may be back. Right now, they are doing extensive renovations to the hotel. Maybe I'll wait until those are complete then try it again. The room smelled of mold and mildew. The A/C was on all day and night, but yet the room was still humid. The headboards were so dusty and dirty, it made us wonder if the rooms were cleaned at all. The bathroom was nice and just as pictured, however, there was an earring found on the bathroom floor, which makes me wonder if the bathroom was cleaned after the previous guest?? The bed was super comfy and sheet soft, but the towels were not soft and thought for a boutique hotel they would have been. In addition to the that, we had a cracked make up mirror that wasn’t secured to the wall and ceiling had dry wall repairs unfinished. Also there was a stain on the carpet that was removed after we brought to their attention. We had a little visit from a critter that wasn’t removed from floor after cleaning crew came. However breakfast was absolutly amazing! We have stayed in many boutique hotels and for the price paid, we feel that more attention to detail in terms of the rooms appearance needs attention. What I thought was going to be a great trip seeing my son graduate turned out to be absolutely horrible because of this hotel. When we asked the front desk we were told the attendant went home early because it had been a slow night and she didn’t think anyone would come down there. I can say that Jennifer on 3rd shift is great! My daughter was bitten from stepping in an ant pile and Jennifer helped me and my friend doctor her up.

I understand the turn over rate is probably high as many familys where there for USMC Graduation. But i felt housekeeping is putting in minimal effort when resetting rooms. The bed spread was stained and kind of gross, candy wrappers under the bathroom sink as well as hair and other yuckyness all over the bathroom floor. The bathtub looked horrendous, the broken bottles of shampoo & conditioner in the shower leaked and made the tub slippery. Be careful! the safety deposit box in room was broke and we could not use. Also the extra door lock was broke so we felt a little less secure in our room. For a upgraded "suite" this is unacceptable! The continental breakfast was ok. But MARY the breakfast POLICE was SO RUDE and unprofessional we had to call corporate! Please take your stay somewhere else. You deserve better for your stay and the money spent. I could not recommend this location. Our room had paint flakes all over from the way they painted over things without actually fixing them. Paint was peeling off around the tub. The internet and tv were not working so we called the desk. All Virginia had to say was, “Yeah, someone else called about it too.” Then silence. There is no ventilation in the bathroom which made the entire bathroom feel like a sauna after taking a shower. We stayed four days and did not receive any maid service nor any fresh towels. One of the positive things I can say is that the staff were nice and polite; however, we will not be returning to this hotel in the future.

At this point we are completely exhausted and we are in town for a military graduation and all of the hotels are booked so we really have nowhere else to go. We decided to stick it out and in the morning the girl I was with went to the front desk and asked them why she was charged four times on her card and the lady at the front desk threw her hands up in the air and started yelling at her and told her to just get a room somewhere else. My friend asked to speak to the manager again in which she was told that he would call her. That never happened. Also, When we arrived, the hotel rooms looked nothing like they looked online. The front desk lady said that's our hotel but those are not our pictures indicating they used other Hotel pictures for their hotel. Just do not go here!!

But there won’t be another. Rooms were clean but showed wear. Beds were just okay. Sheets were clean. Everything was just average. Breakfast was adequate. The issue we had is that apparently someone is cooking every single night. Unsure if ownership resides within the hotel. But the smell of ethnic food is overpowering within the lobby in the evening and permeates the elevator and up into the hallways. It’s strong enough that you can almost taste it. This has been the issue in all of our stays. The last time we decided to pack our things after the first night and switch hotels. Overall, the price is good if you are coming to town for Parris Island graduations, If you don’t mind the smell. This was our only issue. The staff is nice and helpful.

No manager was working. Staff person called the night employee at home who denied offering to comp a night and claimed I had cussed at her. This is not true. Housekeeping supervisor said our room was not refreshed because she saw a do not disturb sign around 9am. We had stepped down to the lobby for their pretty gross breakfast option. We returned, removed the sign and left for several hours. By this time it was early afternoon. The housekeeping cart was in the hallway and a nearby room was being serviced. We did not stay in hopes our room would be refreshed soon. We left again to return at 930 pm to our room still not serviced. If indeed their policy is to skip a room with a do not disturb sign at 9 am, this is poor service and not customary in the hotel industry. The walls are thin so noise carries from neighboring rooms. We are spending a lot of time in Beaufort caring for a family member in hospice. We will not stay at this property again. I understand times are tough,but skimping on cleaning is not the answer.

The hotel looks nice and new on the outside and in the lobby. Once you get upstairs, the rooms look like they were remodeled from an old building. The first night, our sheets had stains on it. The blankets were actual bed skirts too.. which was not comfortable at all. Also in the pet area outside there are a TON of stickies, like needles that punctured my dogs paws and he had them stuck all over his fur. We took him to a diff area because of this and there was none there, so I’m not sure how to combat this but he had over 20 stuck in his hair that was painful for him, especially when pulling them out. Someone needs to look at that. Staff was decent, breakfast was good.. location was perfect but the pee in the bed and the pet area needs to be addressed.

When we first came here, they said our room wasn't ready and that it would be in an hour. We came back later and settled down, but I decided to start looking around (can't recall why). We booked a week in December for the USMC graduation and I will be cancelling. The 1 single impromptu stay did us in for this place. Don’t recommend at all.

Showed us to our rooms and explained the locked door systems. The security in place at this Inn is top notch. This is a beautiful rehabbed historic building/home in Beaufort. Located right across from the bridge that crosses the broad river…it is steps from everything downtown Beaufort. The rooms were very nice, bedding wonderful, and the new bathrooms were classic. Great water pressure!! There is a kitchen on each floor to get your coffee or tea, put something in the fridge, or use the microwave. There are 2 veranda’s facing the water with patio furniture to enjoy the view and have a glass of wine or two. The owner of this property is frequently on site and loves to tell you all about the renovation and history of this home. I would recommend this Inn as it was perfect. The owners did eventually decide to sell the house, which we had talked about in the beginning would eventually happen. The company gave me plenty of time to find a new place, get everything moved, and have the house cleaned up for my final inspection. Kirstin helped a ton with trying to help me find a new place to move to as well but we couldn't quite find just the right match for me. I have greatly appreciated hers and the company's help through this whole process, I only wish I would have been more financially ready to be able to buy the house from the home owners. We were a short notice move on both the front end and back end of our rental— still giving 30 days notice before move out, although we were out within 6 days. We made both the property owner & management aware of our situation. We were unable to view the house prior to move in, but were able to view the property utilizing FaceTime. During this, we were told the house hadn’t been cleaned or the yard tended to, but it would be done prior to move in. After move in, we reiterated several times that the house was not cleaned (the air filter looked like it had been there for decades) & the months of leaves compiled on the porch had not been removed. The leaves were eventually blown into the yard, but the house was never cleaned. While this issue wasn’t resolved, we remained in the house for 1.5 years. There were several issues, but most were ~eventually dealt with by the property owner to include broken A/C & doors (move in day), electrical issues w/ kitchen, bathroom & master bedroom, leaking roof & pest issues (ants, roaches & mice). We were not notified of any these ongoing issues prior to move in. In addition, there were issues with “amenities”. We were not notified there was no mail or trash service and poor insulation (the entire top floor is unfinished and has insulation hanging off the walls allowing A/C and heat to escape)/weather stripping that increased costs significantly. There were safety issues with broken window locks on the ground floor, hanging smoke detectors and broken outdoor lighting. Upon move out, I attempted to reach Kirstin 3 different times, but was unable to speak with her. She was “unable to receive my voicemails” but accommodated us with a later walk through (after we had PCS'd). I didn’t originally see an issue with this until we were presented with a list of problems with the house. All of the issues identified were previously mentioned by us upon move in, but were never dealt with by the company. All attempts were ignored until we did what we were able to on our own. Had we been there for the walk through, I believe this would have been handled completely different. We were bounced back and forth between this company and the property manager/owner (Lucy Allen, Ambrosia Holdings, LLC), as neither wanted to deal with the issues. There was an extreme lack of communication until we received a list for the security deposit withholdings written on a piece of loose leaf notebook paper in the mail with a check for our deposit. Our concerns were never addressed by either party, but they were happy to keep more than a third of our deposit. It seems we’re being taken advantage of & excuses are being made to keep our security deposit. For these reasons, I would not recommend working with this company or property owner in the Beaufort area. Take pics of EVERYTHING upon move-in and again at move-out. Beaufort Rentals will come up with trumped up charges to avoid refunding your security deposit. They make you pay for professional cleaning after move-out, which we did with a cleaning company they recommended and for which we supplied BR with the receipt, and then to find out BR is again charging us for re-cleaning. I should also say that the house was disgustingly filthy when we moved in, even tho we asked on numerous occasions for it to be cleaned prior to us moving in- dirty, dusty, built-up grime,, dead bugs everywhere, outside doors covered in mosquitoes nests. We were also initially charged for a broken blind slat that was already broken when we moved in. After 2 months of haggling with them about our security deposit, they are still charging us $250+ for re-cleaning, replacing a handful (if that) burned out light bulbs, replacing 2 air filters which we had already paid for and left behind for the next tenant, having to throw small items left behind, like a pair of cuticle scissors. BR says it took someone almost 4 hours to do this work. Really? What a scam. We left the house in much, much better shape than it was in when we moved in to now find that we're being gouged by BR for any excuse they can find or make up so they can keep part of our security deposit.
