We walked to SH so it was a great opportunity to ditch a vehicle and enjoy the area. The remarkable views along this trail and North Head were just gorgeous. Once you start heading downhill you'll be in some lovely forest settings with great trees and bushes nestled right into nature on all sides. The path is rugged in some parts with rocks sticking out but managable if you watch your footing. Other areas as clear rock paths or wooden stairs. The path exits on to Burma that will lead to Quidi Vidi. We enjoyed the actual walk to QV more than QV itself!

The trail is strenuous but offers plenty of scenery for your efforts, including some memorable landmarks. The access trail is no joke, and feels like a mild hike on its own due to the stony path. It was top of my wish list and the food did not disappoint. Started with a dip that was amazing, cream cheese, green onion, bacon and chips. Then we shared a two piece fish and chips. Back in January when we were planning what to do, we decided to spend a few days in and around St. John's. We covered all the must sees - Signal Hill, Cape Spear, George St, and so on, but we wanted to include something special for the afternoon of the actual day. It occurred to us that we don't see that many whales in the river that flows through our small town just outside of Ottawa, so we decided to book with Gatheralls. So glad that we did! While we enjoyed everything that we saw and did in St. John's, both of us feel that this was the absolute highlight! We loved the experience. Just being out on the ocean was a cool experience. The puffins and other birds were incredible. The crew were fabulous! The singing, the jokes and laughter, the information about the puffins and other birds was fascinating - who knew that a little puffin could dive up to 200 feet into the ocean in search of food - and the screech in ceremony was hilarious. Apparently there was a two-metre swell that day and I truly came to understand what the term 'sea legs' really means. We passengers were all over the place, hanging on to seats and railings while the crew was standing and walking around like we were on dry land. Impressive! Alas no whales. So zero stars for the whales, but five truly deserved stars for everyone at Gatheralls. If we're ever in St. John's again we'll go back to give the whales a chance to redeem themselves.

It’s a 15 minute drive from St John’s harbour. This is an absolutely beautiful collection of different types of gardens from rock gardens to Japanese style gardens. There is even a green house with a grapevine growing profusely with massive bunches of grapes. An absolute must for all the gardeners and those with botanical conservation and nature interests. There is a wonderful pollinator garden and beehive. In addition to the gardens there are trails most gently sloping and low inclines with lots of signs for teaching information about the wild plants and berries.
