So glad our Bristolian buddies took us here for lunch on Saturday. We went for the set 2 course lunch menu and it was AMAZING! We had pork belly bites while we waited and my mouth is watering even typing that - they were crispy and delicious. The menu choices were great and we chose Cumberland sausages with onion gravy and mash, it came with a Yorkshire pudding with crispy bits (onion) in it too. Hubby had ham, egg and chips. This really is the best curry I've had in some time. So good, I had the Shahi Jal chicken tikka, special curry garden rice and garlic naan. Firstly it’s located a bit out of the way, good old google maps helped out. Secondly the food itself is nice big portions I went for the moby dick (giant cod and chips) and for the price I’d expected a little more maybe a drink included especially when your paying £18.95! My Mrs went hake special which was similar priced and got a cup of tea,a butter roll and a portion of mushy peas again a very good portion. A walk of no more than 5mins. A warm welcome,restaurant was very clean and tidy. We were treated as honoured guests,staff courteous and friendly. Can't help but think this was an excuse for an early finish. Have worked in hospitality for over 20 years and service wise, this was one of the worst. Clearly one of the few bad experiences according to reviews but disappointing all the same.

Sadly, our fish and chip meals were anything but. Mine wasn't too bad, batter over cooked and sone chips dry and not nice but my wifes was not good at all and our son struggled with his. Now, if it wasn't for the fact that we were pushed for time, meeting up between hospital appts, we would have complained big time. I can't say anything else really as this was a complete surprise and definitely the first time we have experienced such poor quality dishes. Such a beautiful outlook and in a wonderful setting, shame.

On arrival you walk into a really nice-looking bar area with a pool table, with plenty of seats. The sun terrace was big and has an amazing view across to Wales, the North Devon coast, Weston, and its surrounding areas. On an evening, the sunsets really are amazing and seeing is believing. There is also a well-stocked bar in the sun terrace so you can buy your drinks from here as well. After a drink we then decided it was time to proceed to the restaurant which was our main purpose for our visit. We were welcomed by a friendly gentleman who went through the menu with us. We decided to have Panko Whitebait and a Scotch Egg for our starters, both were massive portions and tasted perfectly. For our mains we had a Cider battered cod, pressed peas, curry sauce and chips and a Peri-Peri Chicken with salad and chips, again both portions were massive, and both dishes were perfect. Sadly, as all the portions were so large we didn’t have room for one of the tasty desserts on the menu. We returned to the bar area where we got chatting with both staff and a were made to feel really welcome. We would both highly recommend a visit to Captains Cabin, if not for the amazing food, for the amazing views from the outside sun terrace instead.

On our visit yesterda, we tried the Fish Finger sandwich, which was more than enough to share. The homemade tartar sauce was incredible. Smash it down and stuff it in your gob but I went for the additional patty for £2 and I don't think I'll be eating again till Christmas. There are a few comments on here about difficulties getting food - especially on Sundays. So here is the number one tip....book a table in advance, and the earlier the better. Yes, they do run out of the Sunday Roast - if you haven't booked. I don't know of any decent quality places that you can just walk into and expect a Sunday lunch tbh. The Sunday lunches are popular. We booked for 12:30 and our meal arrived within 5-10 minutes. Piping hot. Not sure why my partners meat was almost twice the size of mine mind! There is an offer on for a desert with a standard 'roast'. I had my desert to take out as I was full. I have eaten in every Michelin starred restaurant in Birmingham and I love scallops and Scottys scallops in garlic butter were some of the best I have eaten. I would put them 2nd place but a very close first place, only just pipped lol. Honestly, you need to check this place out. Front of house guy(sorry, cant remember your name) went out of his way to make us feel welcome and even adapted one of the excellent cocktails to my liking. The owners are lovely, lovely people who have a fantastic team. We will definitely be back if ever in Weston again. We are now off to try breakfast in their other establishment, Scottys Kitchen.

The atmosphere, for a Friday night, seemed a bit quiet. Not a large range of beers for a 'tap' house (not sure if that even means anything anymore), but nicely served. Not as big inside as it looks from the outside. Toilets upstairs. The furniture is a clearly sourced to provide a comfortable, perhaps themed environment. Some nice pieces. It's owned and ran by Dan who cooks all the food and his Wife, who works as front of house. 1st impressions were very good, from the outside it looks very cute, inside was very clean and tidy, good quality table and chairs, it was quite small inside, but that gave it a nice homely feel. We were lucky getting a table, I would recommend booking if you want to go yourself, to avoid disappointment. As we walked in, the lady (apologies I didn't get her name, and I can't find it on their website and/or the Facebook page) was very attentive, offering us a high chair for little one. She took our drinks order, while we checked out the menu. There was a good choice of food on the menu, including some great breakfast options without being overwhelming, including vegetarian. From what I can gather they specialise in their 'Afternoon Tea'. We placed our order, I chose the 'Large Breakfast' (photo below). While we waited for our food, lots of people were coming in and out, either to eat in or to grab a coffee on the go. It's clear to see they have built up a great relationship with the local community. Which is key to running a family owned cafe out of town. We had a short wait for the food, 1st impressions of the food was again, very good. You can tell they use high quality ingredients and everything, including my poached egg was cooked perfectly, no grease in sight. I'm sure it was locally sourced. One of the signs of a great fry up is a good quality sausage, we've had so many fry ups, where a cheap sausage has let it down. These sausages were amazing, along with the bacon. Even the bread was fresh and not just your normal cheap supermarket loaf. You can have a great breakfast, but if the place decides to use 'cheap' immatation sauces, it can be ruined. No complaints in this area again, I can't confirm if it was the well known brand of sauce, but both the red and brown was very tasty. All through our time here, the service was impeccible. We'll definitely be coming back. We're looking forward to trying the afternoon tea next. Another bonus about the cafe is it's located just opposite a park, so if you have young children they can burn off all their sweet treats. There is also outside seating avaliable to. I was so happy as most places say they have gluten free but use the same work surface or same prep utensils, but he was very aware of everything and very careful. Unfortunately during our visit we all thought that food was just OK. We were bit disappointed really. Meals lacked of flavour and seasoning. Especially Katsu curry sauce, really bland, lack of flavour. Chicken was very nice but Katsu sauce should be star of the dish and it wasn’t. Same with other meals, OK but we were not impressed at all, sorry. Saying that after our meals we thought that meals were overpriced for what was served. Not sure we will come back. Competition in Weston is strong and we will definitely go back to usual Japanese (Sakura) which so far was consistently good. Good luck tho. Hope that was just one bad day in the office. ☺️

All you can eat menu now 17 - not 18 dishes - but still good, a choice of other menus to choose from, and a nice fresh set of decorative art too. (Photos updated). Updated September 2023. Why? Well, because Ikanji now do an 'All You Can Eat' Menu of 18 dishes (photo of menu shown) which we tried and I have to say were brilliant! They have jiggled around the running order of the dishes over the past few months, putting all of the Maki dishes with the lower numbers, first and with the 'larger' dishes towards the end. I don't know why really, but here is a tip or two..... Don't start with number 1 (Miso soup) and plan to work your way through the menu numerically. Maki, as you may know, is rolled (in seaweed) rice with a central filling (Photo). So you will eat a lot of rice and be full well before the 'larger' dishes start. You order 3 dishes at a time, so Miso soup and perhaps a couple of Maki to start. Then order 3 more dishes. I call them 'larger' but all of the dishes are a decent size really, not mere taster portions. We have been to Ikanji several times now, and it is always excellent tasting food. Previous Review: Dined in with a party of three. An authentic Japanese food experience . We ordered a range of dishes, and each one was delicious. Fine dining really. That means you are getting good quality for which you pay a bit more. However, as long as you feel that you are getting value for money, then I think that is fair enough. We chose the all you can eat option. Waiting 30 minutes for six pieces of sushi to come is crazy. Even sashimi took this amount of time and that's just sliced salmon. Groups had much more success in getting their food faster. If you don't mind waiting this amount of time then go for it. We spent almost 2.5 hours for 6 plates. I wouldn't go again. Oh and make sure you take off the 10% service charge if you don't feel comfortable paying it.

The obvious nautical theme was nice and the reception area where we entered was full of lovely prints and ornaments. We didn't stay in the hotel thus time, but plan to as the did look nice from the photos we had seen. The restaurant and bar were set out with lots of space, great lighting and natural light. There were 3 separate seating areas, including an outside area. My only grumble here was you had to walk around the corner, on the road, to get to the bar entrance. Not an issue for me, but wheelchair users might. The bar and restaurant staff were amazing. Promptly assisted us and informed us of all we needed to know before ordering, including allergies. We were given a menu and made our way to our seats. When ordering food, our request to change the meal slightly was accommodated without fuss. A quick "let me just check with the chef, but I'm sure we can", was followed up with "No problem sir" Outstanding in my eyes. The wait for food was minimal considering how busy the place was. ( I did phone ahead to check availability and was told not to worry about booking ) Our meals were absolutely scrumptious. Cooked to a very high standard and the tastes just filled my pallet. Compliments to the Chef. If you eat here, I wouldn't worry about quality here as I can only imagine that all of the food cooked here would be of the same top class standard. Again, Outstanding.

Within the last 6-8 months we have as a family been put off unfortunately. Regular staff behind the bar are unwelcoming and often have an attitude and can be rather rude. Simply even refusing to hand a menu at times. Other times we’ve been told we can order food and handed a menu to then hear staff bickering behind us because they don’t want to be doing food despite advertising food at this time. We have on many occasions tried to give the benefit of doubt but unfortunately after many attempts to rude male staff member and poor experiences are too much to enable us to return. Shame as their fish and chip Fridays are lovely! Cannot say much for rest of their food as they have a new menu. Though stay away from the cheesy chip portion as complete grease. Please retrain staff in customer service, we’ve had multiple experiences not even mentioned, it’s a shame as the place can be lovely!

We were grateful for their accommodation of our walk in group of 6. Good portions and an interesting, creative menu featuring a mix of classics with a twist and more adventurous dishes. However some of the dishes were a bit hit and miss with our group. Service was very variable between team members and the blue crockery was a highlight! Probably won't go back on this trip but worth a visit.
