The young lady gave us directions to find the Junaluska mural that we were interested in, and Sam emailed me some amazing additional information. We mentioned eating and not only did Sam make some great recommendations, he made reservations to a place that the locals loved! We were so very excited to eat there, unfortunately, my friend became a little ill and we had to cancel the early afternoon reservations and they were booked for the rest of the evening! All of this gives us reason to return to the quaint town and see the new exhibits coming to the museum and experience the wonder all over again!

I recommend eating before going, there's an awesome gazebo pavilion overlooking a creek at the Davant field, for a picnic. Bathrooms at Davant and Memorial park. It's a strenuous 2.5 hour trail and kids will need the fuel to get through this one. And water bottles. So the trail is steep, very steep and twisty, not the best for dogs or humans with joint issues🤣 The waterfalls get bigger as you go down ( way bigger than I was expecting ) Very impressive. Awesome areas for kids to play around in at bottom of each fall but shoes with a grip are a must and supervision. There are no handrails and you can freely roam around the top of these falls which are extremely high up. Side trails to access top of falls do loop back in so you don't have to back track which is nice. Afterwards you can just stay parked at the field and walk into town. Memorial park playground is awesome for kids. So this place definitely exceeded my expectations, absolutely beautiful, but prepare for it for sure. Aster was blooming and that was amazing!

From the time we entered there was a sense of chaos. Nobody at the hostess stand and when the arrived physically appeared distraught. We offered to wait at the bar for our reservation and then was forgotten according to the hostess. Once arriving at out table, an elderly couple across from us that was seated 15 minutes ahead of us still hadn't had contact with there server much less even offered water. We called out for another waitress to service our table and she was great. When the young man who should have waited out table showed.to the couple across 20 minutes later, scolded the couple for complaining because they where short staffed. When our food finally started to arrived course after course, it was awful. Anything fried tasted heavy of old oils... My wife returned hers to the kitchen entirely it was so bad. I would say to all who consider dinning here, avoid at all cost. Fast food would be a better experience entirely.

The location is new and the staff was beyond eager to teach as they guided you through. Isaac did a wonderful job and was patient with my son AND husband as they bombarded him with questions. There was a second young man who took time to sit in the fossil dig with my 6 and 2 year olds and show them what they were finding. Both were paleontology students at Appalachian State and made our experience wonderful. Ignore the bad reviews, some people are just hard to please. They’re fully transparent and excited to give you a great experience. The Gem mine is super neat too and co-located. You get a discount if you to both, they offer military discounts on top of their very reasonable prices! We will be back again with our Dino lover!
