As this is a gluten-free restaurant, I felt I had to give it a try. I visited on a weekday afternoon to avoid the crowds and to secure a table outside in the warm weather. To be fair, getting the seat I wanted ended up being the best part of the experience.
When I arrived, I was the only customer, though a few more people came in during my visit. The waiter handed me a Hungarian menu—which was manageable since many of the terms were Italian, given it’s an Italian restaurant. After that, however, I was left unattended for nearly ten minutes. When the waiter eventually returned, I quickly placed my order (Lipton green tea, a mixed green salad, and spinach pasta). I also asked for an English menu so I could take photos for my review. He nodded but offered no explanations or suggestions about the dishes, nor did he ask if I wanted my courses served together or separately and never bought me the English menu, i had to get up walk in and get it myself. The menu overall is a few pages of pizza and pasta dished there are only 2 vegan pizzas and no vegan pasta option. The pasta offer is very limited to mostly just egg & gluten free flour pasta, no rice based or corn based or potato based anything. No legume based or made with vegetable pastas, hence no vegan options. Very disappointing. The drinks menu is very basic too.
The tea arrived promptly but was placed down so quickly I barely noticed it before the waiter had disappeared again. It had no ice! And remained ice-less for my entire time there. Given it was 30C I would have expected at least a chance of being able to request some ice but was mostly ignored. He then reappeared only twice mor once to greet another couple, and once to deliver both of my dishes simultaneously.
The “mixed green salad” turned out to be nothing more than chopped lettuce and rocket, literally, without dressing. When I asked about this, I was told that olive oil had been drizzled over it, as indicated on the Hungarian menu. In reality, there were perhaps three drops of oil at most, and it was certainly not extra virgin olive oil. When I expressed my disappointment, the waiter casually suggested I add vinegar. I was thinking sure bring me balsamic vinegar, extra virgin olive oil, salt and pepper and I will make my own dressing but I chose to go to a restaurant for the sole purpose of somebody else preparing dished for me, hopefully better then I would have done at home. So i just said ‘i doubt vinegar will help this at all’. The waiter just left and left the salad mainly untouched.
The spinach pasta was more acceptable. The portion was big enough despite looking small as the plate design is just bad so it presents in a way that you think there might not be enough food there. It was cooked al dente, which I appreciated, and included ricotta and spinach as described. However, the dish was poorly balanced: the spinach portion was excessive compared to the pasta, and it was heavily overpowered by garlic to the point of being unpleasantly strong and hurt not just my palate but 'burnt' my mouth. While borderline edible, it was not enjoyable.
Overall, the service was disinterested and unattentive, with a mandatory service charge non the less! The menu is very unimaginative and the food was mediocre. During my meal, several other tables were filled. I table got one of their drinks poured on table, service became comically bad by then. I noticed nearly everyone ordered pizza so maybe that is their stronger offering. That said, based on my experience, I will not be back.
