A Venice Beach Favorite Sharky's on the Pier is hands-down my family's favorite spot whenever we're in Venice Beach. It's the perfect mix of great food, a laid-back coastal vibe, and consistently friendly service. However, we were meeting them halfway so we went to see if we can reserve the table that had enough seats for the 7 of us and they said they prefer if our entire party was here. About 10 min later our party was fully there and the table we wanted had one lady holding it for the rest of her party which isn’t fair to us because we were told we couldn’t do that. Then they seat us at a table with sun after we requested shade, and when we reminded her again and politely asked if we could sit a few tables away, the girl who was seating us had an attitude and a face and didn’t say anything and just put our menus down and walked away. There are 2 eating areas to this establishment, a downstairs bar area and a more formal upstairs. There is a lift / elevator for those who find climbing stairs a challenge. Whe had booked to eat upstairs and, on arrival, were offered a choice of inside or outside dining. We chose to eat inside. We would suggest.making a reservation as the restaurant appeared mostly full. We were shown to our table immediately upon arrival and provided with menus and beverage lists. A comprehensive menu of appetisers, salads, entrees and specials. There was also a good selection of beers and wines which included many ales on draft. Ronda, our waitress, arrived promptly to take our order and answer any questions that we had. We ordered mushroom flatbread and a bowl of clam chowder. The portions of both dishes was generous and flavourful. We followed with entrees of filet steak with garlic mash & coleslaw and fried grouper & cocunut shrimp, with fries and coleslaw. Again, very good sized portions and nicely cooked. We accompanied the meal with a fresh orange juice and a draft Samuel Adams OctoberFest beer. Each course arrived in a timel manner. Throughout the meal, Ronda was attentive, chatty, approachable and very personable and made us feel very welcome. She acknowledged that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. Upon being shuffled thrunthe kitchen to the quieter side of what appears to be an old school Italian bar an wine cellar. The only food eaten was the minestrone soup which started out delicious too, until I found stands of hair in it. I am a realist and understand these thing's happen and was willing to take a replacement bowl(Photo included) When i brought it to our waitress attention, she replied we don't have anyone with brown hair here in such a condescending attitude it left our entire table in disbelief. So in a effort to minimize the situation we requested everything be boxed so we could throw it out and paid for the meal, even left a tip. I wouldn't recommend this place based on her service alone.

We sat in the “back room” which felt like the best kept secret of the whole place. It was so authentically decorated and made the most warm and inviting atmosphere. My wife ordered a house salad and the Rigatoni Con Cream E Salsiccia. The salad was a large portion for one and the tomatoes tasted like they came straight from the garden. From service, to drinks, to food, to view, and everything in between, it was nothing short of marvelous. First things first, our waiter Tim was absolutely amazing. You can really tell that this place is being run by an "Italiano vero", Mino. The first time we got here just half an hour before closing on a Sunday night. What I thought would be a decent rejection of service because we arrived so late, turned into a perfect (and quick) dinner. Owen greeted us with a smile and immediately pulled a few chairs for us. I suspect to make things even more challenging, they told me it would be ready in 35 to 45 minutes.....and I was there in 30. I think it had been sitting already for a bit...the place was FULL with people waiting. There were 4 drivers in queue for Door Dash and Uber Eats I suspect. We got the Chicken Satay as a common item, which my wife really enjoyed, the chicken was tender and properly cooked. Sauce and seasoning very nice. 8/10 We got the white rice. i am NOT a fan of white or basmati rice or any white rice for that matter, even brown is suspect with arsenic and chemicals and processing and packaging issue. But I would have gone for brown but that seems to be NOT an option here???? My wife selected the Spicey Basil Shrimp which was also nicely prepared and a healthy variety of vegetables lightly cooked and seasoned, a very nice job. The shrimp seemed a good product and not too scary (smile). She could not finish it and is taking it to work/school tomorrow. 8/10 My daughter rolled with the House Fried Rice with double egg but no meat/chicken. She really enjoyed this and this is here "test" entree. So simple and yet when its poor......you really know it!! Hats off this gets a 9/10 I got the Garden Vegetable Fried Tofu. This has a nice wide array of vegetables nicely firm but amply cooked. The sauce was also very nice. The tofu was cubed and fried on all sides but perfectly done and not greasy and oil charred blocks or rubber. Good tofu product!! I really enjoyed this! I will order this ON SITE when we dine in just to see how much better it will be kitchen to table fresh and hot!! 10/10 So for take out, this was pretty good. 10x better i am sure freshly served and not sitting on a shelf and in a plastic bag.... then driven 20 more minutes to the house..... great job Star Thai & Sushi. We got a full rack of ribs, a key lime filled, a chocolate old fashioned, a cinnamon roll and a chocolate iced angel cream. The ribs were tasty and definitely the best we've had in Florida. The key lime was what you think of when you think of a tropical island dessert. The old fashioned was good just different since I've only had regular old fashioned before. The cinnamon roll was a fluffy cinnamon roll that was not over glazed or over spiced. The angel filled was not what we were expecting, the cream was like a vanilla icing inside of a bar doughnut that had been frosted with chocolate cake frosting. So all in all I easily can recommend the bbq, but the donuts for the most part leave something to be desired.
