We were taken to our room which was a nice touch and told about local services if we needed them. Our room overlooked the courtyard, really good size and we had a bathroom with own shower. Nice touch with the free toiletries and we had a fan in our room which was a good addition! You get left with a key to the fire door if you're back late which again is great and don't feel you are restricted to a curfew. They don't have parking but we parked on the museum and just extended. Tip: take a photo of the QR code so you can extend without walking back to the car. We had a drink in the courtyard after check in which was such a sun trap and we really felt relaxed there. Good choice of drinks available. Slept really well in the room and the pub is on the whole quiet after closing times. In the morning we were welcomed to our table and we could help ourselves to cereal and yoghurt. The orange juice was a nice touch. I know there was water available but maybe a suggestion to put these next to the yogurts if people need it. There's no breakfast menu and it sounded the only choice was a full English. I'm sure you could ask for anything and they would have made it as the server was so attentive but maybe offering a menu or a choice as some people don't like to ask in case they feel awkward. The breakfast was delicious. Generous portion and you could have extra tea/coffee and toast if needed. We were asked if we wanted marmalade or sauces which is taken from the kitchen. Probably a good idea to put this on a table so people can help themselves? Wasn't a massive issue though. On the whole we had a lovely stay and we would stay again!

So the large room has a high ceiling, paved floors and no soft furnishings which makes for an extremely noisy experience, voices and scraping chairs echoing round, not comfortable at all. Younger children (depending on interest) may not be as "into" the displays but, the Enginuity museum right next door may suit them (as more hands on). Also, lovely cafe with friendly staff and great coffee and food! (Note: best Gluten Free Pizza i've ever had!). Cost of parking was reasonable and when we went, if you spent enough in the cafe, parking is then free (you nees to ask for a parking voucher when paying for food). We used our Tastecard, which made the whole visit excellent value for money, but the quality of the food and service easily stood out on their own. For mains we ordered a meat feast pizza, a classic margherita, gamberoni pasta, and the spicy sausage pasta, along with the festive Christmas pizza. It was fairly nice, clean and tidy, but the only couple of downsides there were, was a couple of the forks weren't as clean as they should be. Also, even though there was a good variety of food on the menu, I only ended up with a bowl of chips, as there wasn't really any food of my interest on the menu. If only Banger's and Mash for both Adults and kids was on the menu, I would've gone for that. I had a lovely Apple and Berry Crumble for dessert, which was really nice. Don't get me wrong, the Dessert Menu was lovely! It's just ashame the Main Menu itself didn't have more interesting food listed on it. Apart from those couple of downsides, we had a good evening. The staff seemed Friendly, helpful and a little rushed off their feet due to busy times, but they did everything they could well. I'm sure we'll be returning again sometime in the future. The pub has direct access to a path which links Jackfield and Ironbridge. The outside seating is lovely, with great views of the river. We arrived without having booked (silly us - definitely recommend booking a table!) but we were told they could fit us in, and I'm so glad they could. The prawn toast was unlike any I've ever had. Super crispy, fresh and moist. For our mains we had the beef pad krapow (off the specials board) and the prawn pad thai. The beef was stunning, beautiful flavours with tender beef and a touch of heat - perfect! To end we had the fried ice cream (had to give it a go) and the lemon and lime cheesecake. The burger was firm but juicy, the potatoes crisp on the outside, buttery in the middle, the chicken wings had light crispy skins and soft juicy meat, and the rump steak sandwich has persuaded my fussy wife that rump when cooked well can be every bit as tender and juicy as a bit of rib eye. The staff are all friendly and active, buzzing around keeping the place clean, making sure we were well attended and happy a couple of times during our meal, but never over bearing. I heard the boss was away at the time of my visit, so seeing the staff engaged the way they were was very reassuring that they all had pride in what they were doing and clearly the backbone of the business. In popular tourist destinations this is something I always find difficult as often end up disappointed. Having wandered up and down the high street and checking reviews though I have to say I pulled a blinder with this selection. I chose a cheese and sausage toasted sandwich, very generously portioned, tasty and moreish, and a side bowl of chunky chips, adding a refreshing cold drink the bill came in at a very reasonable price. The cafe had good ambience, if a little quiet, although that could have been due to the time of the year, I did find the decor a little confusing, maybe though it is this quirkiness that makes this cafe special, and it probably fits the nature of the town. Big bonuses here for the friendliness of the staff, the view, and the fact that it was very dog friendly with special little treats issued to your furry pals.

There’s no denying they offer a solid selection of East Asian dishes, which for me was the highlight of the experience. The floor staff are welcoming and tentative but it can be a bit slow considering the amount of staff was working there. The chefs on the roast station was slow coming out, speaking the own language whilst serving us and service with a smile goes a long way. Good selection of Chinese and Indian cuisine, with some range of sushi, pizzas and roast meat. Good selection of dessert. Food was average, not sure if it's been sat there for too long underneath the hot lights but some of the food was overcooked and hard. Or the chefs were having a bad day? Personally would recommend the sweet and sour, char sui, sushi, salt and pepper chicken poppers and prawns. Don't recommend crab claws or butter chicken. Firstly the staff are absolutely superb, nothing is too much trouble for them and they go above and beyond to help. The rooms however are pretty basic for the price, double bed, built in wardrobe and ensuite. Our room ( 5 ) was very small but double aspect, unfortunately looking over a flat roof from both windows. Due to the age and design of the building, there are no lifts to the upper floors. Our room didn't have air-conditioning, just a fan. Now, the negatives. This is NOT acceptable in this day and age, and gives the impression of cost-cutting. It should be part and parcel of servicing a room.

Check-in was smooth, though most of it was completed online beforehand. On arrival, the room felt underwhelming. The tea and coffee tray was fine, but there was only one bottle of water provided for two guests. Something as simple as one per person would have met expectations. The décor in places could do with touching up, and cables had been crudely tacked along the wall. The bed initially seemed comfortable, but more on that later. We had dinner in the restaurant and couldn’t fault the food or service. Breakfast was also tasty and well presented, with friendly staff. Unfortunately, the experience was disrupted when the fire alarm went off. Guests were directed outside, but no headcount was done at the assembly point, and upon returning I noticed that no staff had directed anyone to the nearest emergency exit. This felt concerning from a safety perspective. The lack of soundproofing was a real issue. We could hear absolutely everything from the neighbouring room, from light switches and the toilet seat to conversations and even the bathroom fan that ran constantly. Once in bed, the pillows proved very poor, offering no support and resulting in a restless night. The information pack stated extra pillows were available in the wardrobe, but this wasn’t the case, so we had to call reception for more. Unfortunately they were just as uncomfortable. The bathroom was also disappointing. The shower was awkwardly positioned under a sloping ceiling, meaning I kept hitting my head. The complimentary toiletries were basic and felt cheap. There are no lifts in the hotel, so be prepared for stairs. Around the property, at the bar, reception, and even on the back of the room door, there were QR codes and tap-to-pay devices for staff tips. While I appreciate staff recognition, the presentation felt overbearing and somewhat off-putting. Overall, the food and service in the restaurant were excellent, but the room, noise issues, poor sleep quality, and safety concerns significantly let the experience down. Unfortunately, a comfortable night’s rest is the main reason we stayed, and on that front the hotel failed to deliver.

We came here as I booked an armadillo encounter for my boyfriend’s birthday a couple months ago, and it didn’t disappoint. With purchase of the encounter, you also get entry to the zoo. They had loads of animals, and some I haven’t seen at any other UK zoos before like skunks and maras. As soon as you enter you have a capybara and call duck exhibit and a sea otter exhibit. The sea otters were adorable, I’m a bit biased though as they’re one of my favourite animals! They were very vocal with loads of little squeaks. We looked around for about an hour, and even got to go into the rabbit enclosure and feed them some veggies while getting strokes in. You can also buy some farmyard food at entry to feed the wallabies, maras, goats and horses, which was so worth it to feed the adorable horse they have! We had our armadillo encounter with Kennedy and she was absolutely amazing. She was so knowledgable on the little “armoured dogs” hehe and she was so kind and friendly. We held one of the two 3 banded armadillos while he curled up, these were housed with some marmosets which loved playing with my phone and perching on our shoulders! We then fed and stroked/gave back scratches to the two girl 6 banded armadillos. Kennedy told us we got lucky as usually they were tired after they’d eaten and they would lie under their heat lamp, but they loved exploring around our feet and standing up on their hind legs to get a better view of us! Our experience was about 30 minutes and it was perfect, I couldn’t recommend it more! I already want to go back for their otter experience haha. Thank you Kennedy and the other lovely staff at the zoo, it was a memory my boyfriend and I won’t forget!

Melon, the three-banded one, is able to curl herself up into a ball and be held, and she looks so funny when she scurries across the floor on her tiptoes! The six-banded one was lovely and more than happy to be fed live mealworms by us. It was great seeing them up close and being given so much information about them - Kennedy really knows her stuff and exudes genuine enthusiasm and care for the creatures!
