We ordered the calamari which was delicate and crispy. It could do with a bit of salt and pepper in the batter to make it even more awesome. Mussels were fairly flavourful and delicate. The seafood chowder needed a bit more salt and pepper and perhaps some herbs would enhance the flavour. It was slightly bland. Halibut was good but adding a bit lemon or lime on the side would have enhanced the flavour. Brussels sprouts was absolutely delicious with a bit of sweetness and tang. Zero waves so its great even for SUP beginners. I paddle boarded out and around the islands - over 6kms and never reached waves. The water is crystal clear and no seaweed until you get out to the odd clump of kelp. The water line has some areas of crushed shells so can be hard on the feet, kids might want to wear water shoes. Not a very busy beach due to the fact there is only a very tiny public parking lot - its mostly only the guests of the few resorts on the property. Other than the areas of shells along the water line - the sand is very soft and clean. While the formal garden near the cafe and entrance was pretty standard, it was the Children's Garden that gave us an idea if what the rest of the garden had in store. The old growth trees are astoundingly huge, and the wild/uneven wood path that protects the special mushrooms/foliage and undergrowth is such a cool touch. We did the hike two days after a big rain. We did the full 4 km loop with 4 kids ranging from 3 yrs old to 13 years old. Everyone had a blast. The kids said it was the “funnest” hiking trail they’ve ever done. It was definitely mucky and a bit technical with a 3 yr old who sometimes needed to be lifted over obstacles. The 3 year old did, however, manage to walk the whole trail on her own! It would have been tricky to attempt to carry her, even with a proper hiking child carrier, due to the climbing, ducking, mud pit avoidance, balancing on logs etc required to complete the trail. We did the trail relatively unprepared with just our running shoes. If you wanted to be better prepared, consider hiking boots, hiking poles, gaitors and/or splash/rain pants to help keep your shoes/clothes from getting so muddy. In addition to the lovely old growth cedars, we also were lucky to see starfish clinging to the rocks by the boat dock at the end of our hike—such an exciting bonus for us as we don’t live near an ocean. Unfortunately, we did not have a good experience. Service: Our night started out bad with their weird waiting system. They asked us to come back at 6pm and when we finally came back we had to wait 40 minutes until we were seated. Captain Chris was our guide and he was fantastic! He was very knowledgeable about the various communities that dot the area and took time to point out all the sea life that surfaced. The hot springs were definitely hot and the hike was beautiful. Make sure to get water shoes of some sort. The best part was as we left a thick, heavy fog moved in and it didn't shake Captain Chris at all. We felt very confident in his skills and he didn't disappoint. So much fun! I felt at ease because it never shook him and he was smiling and making sure we were ok throughout. Great Captain but also great guy more importantly. I highly recommend using Long Beach Nature Tours if you seek adventure!
