We were supposed to go to a different zipline on our underground river tour but at the last minute it was canceled due to maintenance so we were redirected here instead. I’m so glad we were! At 67 years, I wasn’t confident about climbing up inside the cave, but the women that were the guides inside the cave helped me at every moment, showing me where to place my hands, my feet and how to get me and my belly through the crevices, making me laugh and facilitating me to achieve a wonderful climb that I never thought I would be able to do. It was already hightied and since I am small the water is almost up my waist from the deepest part due to waves but mostly it is up to my hip. I went late morning and there was nobody there to guide so after asking someone where the starting point was (across some grass and then through the shallow river) I went in search of the waterfalls solo. It’s not an obvious route, with no signage or bridges as seen in older reviews. You need to wade through the river several times, clamber across large rocks and guess at points which way to go. It is very wild and jungle-esk and it was nice to be rewarded with a swim at the end. There was torrential rain on the way back which made the rocks slippery and proved even more difficult to see any trodden-in paths. I’m glad I did this but I wouldn’t recommend doing this solo or without a guide. Good hiking shoes that can get wet are recommended!
