The venue is downstairs and there are bathrooms down there as well. I would get to the show early if you go so you can get a good spot. Venue is small but a great spot for intimate shows. The review is probably more like 3.5 stars. The good - they book some of the best comedy acts in Portland, and I love that it's an intimate venue with no real bad seats. I much prefer having a bigger act perform multiple sets there than to have one night at a large auditorium. I have always been able to see and hear well, and feel like the performers connect pretty well with the audience here. And I don't have to go downtown. Ticket prices are usually fair given the acts and venue size. The two item minimum isn't my favorite, but it's a common enough practice and clearly how they make money. Paying a bit more for a couple beers isn't the worst but does add to the cost of the night. The food is attrocious though. Fries are acceptable in a fast food kinda way. Much else is downright inedible. Do not plan to eat here. I don't love how the willcall tickets and then loitering in a waiting room for a while before being seated for a show cumulatively mean that you ideally want to get there 45 min or more early for a show, which makes it all the harder to get dinner somewhere edible before a show or for me to make it to any early show after work.

By the time we got to the Pappardelle we were stuffed, as their portions are large in size, we took it to go and ate it the next day. It was super tasty as well! Perhaps the kitchen staff could swap positions for crispy bacon and well, but not overcooked potatoes. My eldest daughter's Besaws Omelette was well prepared and her potatoes looked cooked properly. Parking is available on the street around the building. Some is pay to park and others is free but it does fill up quickly so you may need to walk in a bit. Located in small commercial building that echoes industrial vibes. Inside was a cozy lo fi vibe with a massive beautiful pizza oven right inside of the door. The host station is right adjacent to the oven and to the kitchen. Almost every table has a view to the outside.The bar is located as the very back of the joint and has a few bar seats available. We ordered their Caesar salad and pickled veggies for appetizers and both were delicious. The drinks were strong, flavorful, and well-balanced. For dinner we ordered the Ribeye and a Pizza. Both were fantastic and I highly recommend them. I will say that I am not sure that the cut I actually received was a ribeye or not. We took our dessert to go and the two we had were fantastic. I believe the MWL has gone downhill from where it was years ago, when they had a ling waitlist and it eas desireable to be a member. They try to maintain that they are an elite private club, however it is not members only and with that comes you having to reserve in advance to get a seat over a non-member. With that being said, I believe many of the excellent bartenders from years ago, have left and moved on to other places in the Portland area. (we know because we have talked with many of them at other locations). When you compare the cocktails at MWL with other cocktail bars in town, they are not as good and quite a bit more in price. It is hard to figure out why they would charge so much sometimes. The break-even pours are awesome and really the main benefit of being a member, if not the only reason we are members. I was charged $24 for a Negroni recently (I do custom order these), however I can get this exact same cocktail, made the way I ordered it at most other bars in town for $14/$16. Not sure why they are $8-10 higher for the same ingredients. We also have been very disappointed in the food when compared to most places in town (there are so many amazing spots in Portland-being that we are a foodie city). Some items have been ok, but not at their price point. At this price point we know much, much better high end restaurants in town. Honestly Scotch Lodge beats the socks off MWL when it comes to both food and cocktails (and price point for that matter). Ok, now on to the events...eek! Very, very disappointing. We just went to an event that was $130 per person (the masquerade ball) They charge a very high ticket price saying that you get heavy appetizers included, however it was one of the worst buffet setups I have ever seen. Heavy appetizers? What a joke! The charcuterie cups seemed like the meat and cheese off of a Costco platter. (basic cheese cubes and chunky salami pieces-nothing of high quality). Then the shrimp cocktail (which honestly was one of the more edible things on the buffet-still awful) also seemed as though it was purchased from a grocery store. They had these mini sliders that were in a metal buffet container with just meat, cheese and bread. When we went to take a bite, we realized how horribly dry they were. No sauce....no sauce on the side, no sauce on the sliders. Just dry. The person next to us, even tried to dip it in cocktail sauce because it was so dry...however they said it was just awful (understandbly!). Now, on to the oysters...one bite and I honestly was worried I was going to be sick the next day. Definitely not fresh and very awful. I wasn't the only one. Someone else standing at our table took a bite and almost spit it out. The deviled eggs were the only thing that was decent and edible. So we filled up on eggs. Now, on to the cocktails. Since it was a special event, cocktails were all $20 a piece...and unfortunately not balanced at all. It felt like they might as well have been made in a red solo cup. I have never been more disappointed in an event I have attended. We paid almost $300 for both our tickets and another few hundred in cocktails. So...all said and done, I will never attend another event here unless they make some major changes. With all that being said, we only periodically go in to get our members pours and buy the break-even. We then leave and head to dinner elsewhere in town, where we also partake in cocktails.

The bartender was so unnecessarily rude to me, with zero provocation (unless saying “May I please order the…” is somehow antagonistic) - I was actually shocked enough to spend my time writing this right now. I would just like to say, it doesn’t matter how great some outdoor seating is, or how wonderful it is to have access to a vegan menu… if staff are treating you like you are nothing but an annoyance and inconvenience, it ruins the taste of everything. We were there to see Powerwolf, a heavy metal band who killed it! The show was amazing and the very clever stage visual effects and backdrops from the band combined with the lighting effects, were incredible and well received by the audience! Everyone was respectful of space and security was present to keep the peace if necessary! We took video and photos of the band that was on tour from Germany, and rocked the house! The venue has been there for at least 50 years or more and the photos on the wall told the story of classic rock performers from the past! I love that since I was there for a Make-a-Wish event! The line outside was long to get in, but the place filled up quickly and after the concert, the audience left peacefully. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a smaller venue but a great concert. It looks like Roseland is a popular venue! Two thumbs up!

Michael gave some excellent pros to both dishes. We decided to order one of each. Both entrees were fresh & wonderfully flavorful. Great portions and they came out at the right temperature. The fries did come out undercooked however Michael was quick to come out with a fresh batch that were delicious and cooked to perfection. While eating, we noticed another gentleman, named Howard, that was attentive to several guests and extended his service to us as he was clearing dishes from our table. Being a G.M. there seemed to be no act of service too small for him. It is clear that Howard leads by example and that customer satisfaction is his primary motivation! All three times we have been to Thirsty Lion, we have been greeted with decency and great delight from many of the servers. We went to celebrate a birthday. Just my husband, adult kid and I. We shared the artichoke dip, mini corndogs, giant pretzel and dumplings. The food was fabulous. The staff was helpful, fun and unobtrusive. We treated it like carpool karaoke rather than individuals using the microphones but they were easy to use and the sound was great. We spent 2 hours and while more time would be awesome it was just right. The room we had was adequately sized and comfortable and they had a disco ball. They have some cool rooms for large groups too. We were able to get together early on a Sunday afternoon since they open at 2pm which was perfect for our schedules. The song list is huge and the system was easy to navigate so everyone could add songs to the queue. Dont forget to bring your reading glasses! They have individual bathrooms (fabulous mirror!) with water saving flush system.
