The first impression was very good — pleasant service, quick attention and a nice environment. The starter the Pyro Prawn was excellent. Then came a huge disappointment with the grilled platter. Visually, it was perfect — truly impressive. But all the different types of meat tasted exactly the same. Completely dried out, flavourless, bland, not salty, not fatty — almost as if it had been coloured with food dye and marinated for maybe 30 minutes, if at all. There was no taste of any typical spices. It was basically just a big pile of meat. The sauces also felt unfinished. In the end, it felt like a complete waste of money. After the meal I felt heavy and bloated. I wouldn’t want to come back again.

We visited on Monday night and right away the staff make you feel at home. The garlic prawns were fresh and delicious, I recommend getting some bread to soak up the sauce. The portuguese steak was cooked to perfection, so juicy and flavourful, as was the peri peri chicken. To finish we had the homemade salted caramel cheesecake. Everything was so good that we made a reservation for the next night too. The second night was even better than the first if that is even possible. The octopus was cooked perfectly, tender and tasty! To begin, the service: My husband and I had a date night here and didn’t realize until already into the 9 course tasting, that this would take us longer than we told our babysitter we would be gone 😬 We informed our server that we would need to tighten the meal to under 2 hours and the staff did a heroic feat in accomplishing this, while maintaining professionalism, quality, and clockwork like execution. In addition, after 2 courses one staff member noticed my husband is left handed and began setting his silverware on his left side. The 9 course tasting was a harmonious, creative, beautifully balanced blend of Algarvean traditions and the chef’s Indian roots in Goa. We were amazed by nearly every dish’s presentation and complexity of careful flavors joined together. The food was exceptional- fresh, elevated comfort food. Salmon ceviche is a must, the sauce is divine. Walking up the hill to the right of the beach, just past Don Carvoeiro, you are greeted with an elegant and peaceful exterior of Pani. A warm friendly greeting awaits as you enter and begin to enjoy the pleasant smells of the food cooking in the kitchen on this level. Up a flight of stairs and you are on the first dining floor of the restaurant. This is where there are immaculate toilets and disabled access through a small back door typically reserved for restaurant staff. One more floor up and the top floor boasts wonderful views over the Carvoeiro beach under the comfort of a sunshade. The tables are clean and beautifully whilst simply presented. Immediately upon sitting down we were greeted by our server who took our drinks order that promptly arrived. Throughout the meal they were attentive and kept our drinks topped up and table clear. For our meal we ordered a selection of dishes and Naan breads. Each was exceptional. The dishes arrived in their own pot with candle underneath that keeps the dish warm as you take your time to enjoy the meal. The Naan bread we ordered (Garlic and Cheese) was unlike any Naan I have had previously. Thin, almost like a Piadina, and filled throughout with cheese these were incredible. The Lamb dishes were incredible. Not fatty or tough but instead melt in the mouth and delicious. The menu is split into sections and each of the dishes can be customised to your preference of spice, just ask for it. To top this all off I asked for a drinks menu as there were no drinks in the menu I was given as apparently they do all kinds of cocktails and other alcoholic beverages, waiter told me they don’t have drinks menu… which just can’t be true, what the f… Also the amount of flies was unreal constantly on the table trying to get to the food. In a nut shell save your money from this overpriced place there’s so many amazing restaurants in this town this was at the bottom of the list.

Service was awful. Waited over 30 minutes from arriving and being seated to order. Was given food menus but had to ask for the wine list. Had the sharing starter option, eel and goats cheese croquette was not great. Beautiful piece of tuna, lightly seared and then engulfed in undercooked black dough so all taste of lovely tuna disappeared. Chorizo and fava beans very very good! Then algave oyster destroyed by a “plankton foam” which was essentially a sherbet lemon foam! How anyone thinks a sweet citric foam goes well with a raw oyster and prawn on the side is beyond me! Meal slightly saved by a decent bottle of red, and the sharing T-Bone steak which was cooked as requested. Worst and most expensive meal in Portugal on the whole holiday. Hotel is lovely with a beautiful location, but do yourself a favour and got to town for dinner!
