It’s a great spot to enjoy a bit of nature without needing to leave the city. It’s a peaceful area and it had two decent sized ponds, both had walking paths and benches around them. There is many places to have a picnic or just sit down and relax and take in some fresh air. We saw a duck, lots of geese, a box turtle, robins and a hawk on our short visit. The park is not small but not massive, so you can walk around and see everything in about an hour I’d say. There is lots of paved walking paths but also some trails in a wooded section with a creek running through it. Just beautiful. There is covered pavilions/gazebos for picnics or hanging out. Fishing is allowed in the ponds and it said they were stocked with largemouth bass and catfish. If you want to experience a slice of nature without leaving the metro this is your place. Easily one of the nicest city parks I’ve been to in Johnson County. Good job Merriam! I will be back in springtime for a picnic with the girlfriend for sure.

The perfect touch. The volunteers and gardeners were absolute gems. Sharing ideas of where to walk and circling them on the map was above and beyond helpful at the information desk. A couple I observed admiring the Monet Garden who asked a gardener gal that was happy to share information with them on what a plant was. The sculpture garden and fairy houses were thought provoking and beyond cute. I am sure I didn't see everything with being mesmerized by the monarchs putting on a show along with cardinals birds chasing each other. I will be back!!

The property is so cool, and there is a state owned trail route preserving wagon trail ruts on the back side of the estate property. Crossing a bridge in a woody area, leads to the trail from the parking lot. Taking a loop back to the lot, we approached the carriage house to start a guided tour of the house. It begins with an informative video explaining the history of the property, previous owners, etc. Our guide explained the tour is about an hour (huge house), and was really easy going and made us feel comfortable and not rushed. I was blown away by the restoration of the painting details in almost every room. Such cool, decorative detailing! And I appreciate the few sections that show what the original paint looks like aged. My favorite detail was the dog scratches on the sleeping porch doors! So neat to experience, it feels like time was frozen and you can immerse yourself in a different time. I regrettably didn’t take any photos other than the hilarious one pictured. If you have any interest in history, architecture, art, you have to give this place a visit.

The facade is stunning; pictures don’t do the colorful glass justice. When you enter, there is a T-rex and other fossils. Upstairs is the children’s Discovery Room with various interactive stations. Each station was a different science theme which included Anthropology, Vertebrate/Invertebrate Zoology, Geology, Paleontology, Astronomy, etc. The Astronomy room was underwhelming. I believe the museum also had a VR room and a baseball room downstairs, but we didn’t notice them until we were leaving. I guess I was expecting a run down hanger of relics from a by gone area but instead, it is a treasure trove of all things TWA! Yes, the museum is small, but I don't think that's a bad thing. Just a few things visitors need to be aware of ---- There is road construction when you exit to go down the ramp to the museum and the signage is definitely confusing. I must of went around the round-about half a dozen times trying to figure out how to get to the parking lot. Just go to Signature Aviation MKC - Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport, which the TWA museum shares the building with. Related to the location above, since TWA shares the building, walk into the entrance, turn left and follow the hallway until you see the TWA desk. It's a little confusing but once you realize that they share the building, it's easy to find the way.
