I had a very negative experience, but I will not impact your rating because I would say the food was good enough to keep me from using an unfair bias. First off the phone system was not working, you have two locations and an automated system. I tried 3 times and each time it rang the store then went dead. Normally I would have passed and moved on, I wish I did because now I have to report the facts of what happened. So I had looked at the menu online, and to be fair to the business they only list the haddock sandwich as coming with fries. When I entered there was a young girl at the counter who took my order. I asked for a haddock burger only, she said ok and rang me up. $19. So this is totally my fault, I should have said something before I tapped but in my mind I said well 19 for a burger isnt so bad in my experience if food is expensive its because its delicious and going to be worth it. I asked if I was getting fries with that she said yes. I said oh, I actually don't eat fries at all, could I substitute it for the chowder. She had to ask the lady in the kitchen. She said I'll check and I cringed when I saw her go to the freezer to check if they had. I thought I hope they dont have. Thankfully they were out. I said ok is there another option like salad, because I will literally give the fries to a homeless person if there is one around, otherwise it will be garbage. She said I "could have" substituted it for rice, I said ok cool rice. She said we're out of rice. I said ok salad? She said they were out, i could do onion rings as the only other option. Now this sounds ok, however I havent relayed the attitude. I left the interaction feeling totally unvalued as a customer. Even the lady in the kitchen, her facial expression told me she was unimpressed with these requests. I finally said forget it ill take the fries. I understand young labour is cheap labour, but I did not get the feeling that these two ladies had any connection to this restaurant, they could not care less about my asks. You can take a look at my many reviews on here, I rarely give low scores and do not rant on restaurants. With that said onto the food. The sandwich was great, lots of fish, lots of meat in those two generous pieces, I didnt feel too bad about paying 19 for a sandwich. The fish was freshly fried, not too oily. The "tartar" sauce could use some work its more mayo'y than normal tartar and didnt have any of the chunks of stuff that a normal tartar would have. Also they use a piece of leaf lettuce. Just a tip, with the heat of freshly fried fish it makes the lettuce gummy and disgusting by the time your halfway into the sandwich. The fries looked good, I did have one just to try and it was good, no complaints there. I didnt like that they rest the sandwich on the fries as that adds oil to the bun. The bun was good, the cheese (american) was good too I like american so wasnt an issue for me. Overall I would not return because of the experience with the staff. I would for the food maybe in a couple years when natural turnover happens and theres better staff. and I will be very clear before paying on what I would like.
