Yum Yum I stopped by for a quick bite with my wife slightly after lunch time. We wanted to get a couple of slices of pizza, and a chicken parm sub to share, but Dora's only does pizza by the slice at lunch time. That was a bummer. Instead we shared a 12" chicken parm sub and their three mini calzone special. On the plus side, the mini calzones were bigger than we expected. On the minus side, they were not very full of stuff. For me, a calzone, let's take a traditional cheese calzone, should have cheese oozing out of it as you bite into it. At Dora's, it was basically dough filled with a pocket of air. I could barely taste the cheese...in fact, if i didn't see the thin spread of cheese on the inside I would have sworn they left it out. On the plus side again--the calzones' dough was extremely tasty. By the way--they make them fresh once ordered. They were not laying around and reheated. I believe almost everything is made fresh, so it takes time to get your food. This is home made food cooked to order. Of the three calzones, the only one that had any real flavor was the Bacon and Cheese because of the strong bacon flavor. But again, not much substance inside. The final positive--the calzones came with a very tasty dish of red sauce on the side for dipping, which really wasn't needed, and a very generous salad packed with goodies...not your typical bland iceberg lettuce side. Final thought--Dora's should make the calzones slightly smaller, add more filling, and charge a drop more. I would have gladly paid a buck or two more, to get three smaller jam packed calzones than the ones they serve now. Moving along to the Chicken Parm Sub--it was very good. Not the best I ever ate, but quite good. A lot of tasty chicken, cheese and sauce. The bread was good, but not as good as the bread I grew up with in New York City. Would I buy the chicken parm sub again? That is the real test. Yes, I would, and so would my wife. Final Thoughts--I liked Dora's and will return. I live in the area and go out to eat weekly for lunch, so I will be back soon I think. I would like to try their pizza and some of their other subs. The service was nice. The atmosphere quaint. Although they do not serve alcohol you can bring your own wine or beer if you want. And again, I loved the aromatic smell when walking in the door. That alone makes me want to return!
