We were very impressed with the pub Although we hadn’t booked and the pub was very busy the lovely hostess (dark hair and glasses) was very welcoming and found us a table within a few minutes. We were bought a brewery tour as a gift and when we saw they had a hotel we decided to make a weekend of it. Though the room and bathroom were fairly small they were exceptionally well decorated, a very modern look. The facilities available were outstanding. Its over 20 miles from where I live so to make sure I could eat there I booked ahead. Not sure why I expected to make a reservation, in the 45 mins I was there the 4 seater table alongside me was empty along with the round table nearby. I arrived early to make sure I could park and grab a coffee. However it wasnt until a few minutes before 10am that the doors were unlocked. So I spent the 35 mins sat in my car. Once inside I was directed to my table. This was in direct line with the door, which when it opened sent in a cold damp breeze. I ordered my food, drink. The coffee was fine, though I had to ask for sugar. I think they must be short of sugar as my pot of sugar lumps was passed around multiple tables. The bun arrived. It was dainty in size. The bacon was full of flavour, its shame a third of it was fat. The sausage had little or no flavour with a really tough skin. When it came to ask for the bill I became invisible. The staff were to engaged with their conversations. Finally the bill arrived and I noticed a difference in the cost of the coffee compared to the menu. When i asked why the response was " unfortunately some of our costs have gone up ". There was no offer to honour the advertised price, just an expectation that I'd accept it. The mains made up for the disappointment, my clay pot was very nice, and the wife said her salmon tikka was excellent. There was nothing wrong with the sides either. The atmosphere was ok, a couple of annoying children, or should I say their parents that let them 'run' around. Not a cheap night and we left a bit deflated but I guess would be better on another night, starting with an Onion Bhaji.

Looking at the reviews, on google, this place seems quite alright. My partner and I walked in and just saw empty seats however kept an open mind as it was a Wednesday. Until we sat down, we could realise why no one would book at table at this place. We were hit with a stench of a pungent smell that honestly made me gag. The smell reminded me of raw mouldy meat or gone off cheese. We were served flat beers. The music was absolutely dreadful. The portion size for what we paid for was abysmal and I could not finish my dinner as the lamb was inedible (incredibly chewy). While we were sat down we were confused about how this place had good reviews so we went on to Facebook to see their page to find that their pictures are AI generated. My boyfriend’s food was edible however ridiculously dry. He ordered a side of fries that honestly tasted like the cheapest chips ever consumed. Customer service was okay.

They were very accommodating and went above and beyond, than what we asked for. We ordered our drinks - Turkish tea and Efes were lovely - highly recommended. We ordered our starters, a cold meze platter and some prawns. The team threw in a complimentary hummus with falafels. We ordered our mains - lamb chops and a mixed shish meal, both with chips and salad. We enjoyed the food, especially the lamb chops - literally melted in your mouth! There's a door for wheelchairs to enter/exit that offers access to the main seating area and counter, staff were happy to discuss smaller items on the menu (I had a breakfast from the children's menu with a smoothie and a latte) and there are vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options as well as 4 lactose alternatives for those who need them - soya, oat, coconut and almond milks. The toilets are down 1 step, up 3 steps, then another 2 steps into the ladies (sorry guys, I was so pleased to reach the ladies without falling I forgot to check the location of the gents) The meal was freshly prepared and plated appealingly, the smoothie freshly blended and the latte was perfect. They have a kids menu as mentioned and kids eat free with paying adults, traditional cakes and treats and lots of dog treats for man's best friend.

I asked the lady who served us, what the spice was like - she told me it comes in two varieties (I chose the hotter less sweet version) and it was beautiful. Hot naan bread which was cooked beautifully. We were treated perfectly. After our courses, they brought out free Khufi and a shot of baileys and then offered fudge and toffee too. It was a feast for the senses and amazingly kind and attentive staff. I am really looking forward to eating there again! My usual choice off the menu is for something very flavoursome and on the hotter side. Unfortunately this resulted in our waitress recommending the Gurkhali special, apparently it's one of their most popular dishes but I wasn't sure and subsequently found it really bland and watery, possibly the most tasteless dish I have ever had. I should have returned it but waiting for a replacement would also spoil the night for the wife. Her meal was just the opposite which she couldn't praise highly enough. Shakshukka with home made paratha, and my friend had the curried chickpeas and potato which came with a lovely spicy pickle accompanyment, and a delightful sweet halva too. Both dishes were freshly made and were definitely worth the visit. Friendly staff, superb food. The staff are extremely helpful, and are pleased to help. Portion sizes are very good. The breakfast menu is worth the visit, so if you enjoy indian food and want to try something different, give Maliks a visit, however they also do an English breakfast too [please see picture attached for the menu]. Breakfast is served 8am - 11.30pm so this gives you plenty of time. Free car park just over the road makes visiting easy, cant praise this visit highly enough. The staff were all great and in positive moods. I went for the 'Bourbon Bull' burger. It was an impressive sight and the patties were cooked nicely. It was ironic that I thought I'd have ended up with a big pulled brisket fix but barely got any! My partners chicken tenders were excellent. Light crumb coating and juicy chicken. I have been a regular for years and was pleased to be invited to join in the celebrations afrer an invite from the staff. A reservation was made as this was a Friday night. We arrived at 6pm, as my nephew was joining us, to be given some free maple bacon popcorn. I was surprised how much I enjoyed this as I am not normally keen on savoury popcorn but this was lovely. As regulers we were given the option of free burgers and fries and only needed to pay for drinks and extra's. The food, as always, was brilliant and was enjoyed by the whole family. My main reason for coming to the CocknBull is the staff. They have always been friendly and welcoming and I love how comfortable I feel coming in. Their Tuesday Night Club, which gives you 50% of food and drink is great value and a weekly regular visit for me. I will continue to visit here as it has become a weekly treat for myself.

Huge mistake. I do not trust the 4 star hygiene rating at all. Last time we waited over an hour for our food (as the only table in the restaurant) so at least there was an improvement there this time, as we only waited half an hour. However, we still hadn’t even received our drinks at this point - 1 beer and a mojito. The food wasn’t worth the wait. Truly disgusting. The fries were absolutely inedible. They had clearly been cooked in stale oil that hadn’t been changed in at least a few days. For anyone who has never worked in a restaurant before, stale oil doesn’t just taste bad and bitter, but it’s actually a huge health risk. It can cause diarrhoea and vomiting, which it seems will be the case for us this evening, considering the state of our stomachs now. The chips were also cut so thin that they were either dry little husks or soggy and floppy, leaving half the mug of chips as just congealed smelly mush. Check the pictures attached to see. You can tell just by looking at them that the oil is bad because the fries are brown instead of golden. Completely inedible. Literally the worst fries I’ve ever been served by far, and I’m not even exaggerating. Aside from the fries, I had a vegan burger which was decent (for an vegan burger) and the only thing I actually ate. I also had the vegan “chicken” tenders which would’ve been good if not for the stale oil they were cooked in, giving them an awful bitter taste. I could only manage to eat one. My partner had the classic beef burger but he couldn’t even finish it as it was completely drenched in black grease (grease shouldn’t be black so, again, health risk). In spite of all the grease, the bun was completely dry, hard and stale. He also had chicken tenders which he only managed to eat because he was really hungry. This also brings up an important point: the fries and vegan tenders had clearly been cooked in the same stale oil as the chicken tenders. Therefore, they’re not actually vegan. Unless they keep multiple fryers full of rancid oil that they never change. So again, huge health risks, especially for anyone with allergies. Check the photos to see just how much inedible food we had to leave. We finally received our drinks after finishing what we could stomach of our food. On our last visit, a pretty quiet evening, we waited over an hour for 1 beer and 1 cocktail. So onto the bill: 2 portions of chips (inedible), chicken tenders, vegan burger, vegan tenders (inedible), beef burger (inedible), pint of beer, and a mojito. This came to £58 total. So almost £30 each and half the food was too disgusting to eat. The service was at least decent this visit though. Our waiter gave us the vegan menu when requested, and apologised for the meal, offering us a free round of drinks to make up for it which was nice, but we just wanted to leave at that point. Definitely avoid eating here, especially if you’re concerned about your health. This makes McDonalds look like a Michelin star restaurant.

It's been a staple restaurant of Lye High Street's unlicensed balti scene and one of only a handful that is still in business. Sadly the area is no longer the magnet for curry lovers as it used to be. I didn't notice any changes to the dining room but my memory isn't great. The service was very good, friendly and attentive. The menu is pretty much your standard Bangladeshi offerings. The food was ok, although the sheekh kebab felt like it had been microwaved, and the chicken in a couple of the dishes was on the dry side, all else was good, generous portions and excellent sides, especially the chips. The place in general doesn't really look like the place you would eat Pizza, but the food is great. The restaurant is beautifully presented, clean throughout, with welcoming atmosphere and staff who were very polite and attentive. Food was no other than delicious. For the money paid I felt it was very dated, grubby, and in need or a serious redecoration and deep clean. There was huge cobwebs in various areas, chocolate wrappers from previous guests, stains on the carpet and what looked like damp down the side of the wall next to the sofa bed. With bags and young kids that walk was not practical as we had to go up and down several stair cases, long hallways with doors you have to pull and can't push. I won't stay there again and if i did I won't have breakfast there as it wasent worth 15pounds each and would request a newly refurbished room close to reception. The staff were very friendly and accommodating which was good and the area is perfect if you want to be somewhere central. There are nicer hotels in the area with free parking and clean rooms. Would rather go back.to the Premier Inn.

You can take your own alcohol and there is ample parking outside the door. It was not bad and the curries were good apart from what I ordered was not what I was served. I ordered a tamarind based main dish and when the waiter was serving, it didn't sound right. And when I tasted it, I was definitely sure it was not what I ordered. And dreadfully it tasted sweet which I don't like in an Indian dish. I usually don't make a fuss but I do make a point to review it so it doesn't happen the next time to another customer. The Tandoori naans were tasty, the Poppadoms and pickle tray was good. The starter was alright and small portioned. Staff are friendly but obviously one needs to be able to listen properly to the customer when order is given.

The staff went above and beyond, opening drinks for us, providing highchairs, cold plates to help cool the toddlers food down faster. Told me not to worry about the mess my 9motnth old made (I obviously cleaned it myself) but they offered to do it and didn't want me to go out of my way. Price was very reasonable and it's BYO so made it even more affordable. Tables, toilets etc very clean. I'm just annoyed at myself for living in wollaston all my life and going to east one instead of here!

This was done in the restaurant and reception area in full view of diners. Why didn't they take the children into the toilets, why didn't the staff stop them? This has put us off going there as it was unhygienic and quite disgusting.

But I believe, having visited all, The Red Chilli is the best priced but also on par with the competition. The restaurant is usually fairly quiet and the room is fairly small, as other reviewers may mention but I fail to see how this could deter customers away from what is a brilliant meal. The staff were friendly and kind, the food was fast enough and was extremely fresh and flavorful and best of all the bill only came to around £50 for four people. Would absolutely recommend trying this curry house that deserves a lot more credit! (Definitely try the red special chips)
