My fillet steak was remarkably average and same for the beef wellington - however, the potatoes had been deep fat fried and very crunchy/crispy so no sign of the butter, but some sprigs of tarragon on top. The manager wasn't happy with the kitchen staff going off-track from the menu. The potatoes were deducted from our bill. Red purports to be a swanky steak restaurant, but this time, for us, it fell way short of our expectations - maybe, next time, it'll be 5*, but not for us on our visit - disappointing... They very kindly managed to fit us in at dinner time without a reservation. We had the early bird dinner menu (served 6-6:45pm) which was excellent value. My partner had the lamb casserole for the main, and I had the slow cooked pork belly. Both were lovely! For dessert I had the coconut tart which was basically a really tasty, light, coconut cake. All our servers were great. The restaurant was very busy and we could see how hard they were working to ensure everyone was served in good times and tables remained clean. Friendly, helpful staff and lovely food.. It's a nice novelty for something different if you've never tried the hot stone before. We had a sharing Seafood platter for 2 £15, then a 10 oz grass fed ribeye £34 and a 8oz 28 day aged fillet £42. The price comes with unlimited chips and salad and a sauce. Definitely recommend the fillet which was really good and actually didn't take too long to cook on the stone. It gets very warm ( and a little smokey) in there whilst cooking on a stone so bear that in mind for your choice of attire. Overall, I know the place hasn't been great since the Handpicked group took over what used to be an absolutely great steakhouse but I'd say this experience was good. This is the 4th visit for us in a year so that speaks volumes. On our previous visits to OGH have been wonderful. I had a special birthday there, our wedding anniversary, a Christmas event, and a few family meal/ stays which this 5 ⭐️ hotel was the perfect venue. It’s truly got to be the best hotel on St Peter Port. I will enclose some photos of our stays and I’m sure you will understand too why it’s the only 5 star hotel on the island. We will still visit The old government house for meals and drinks and hopefully get a few day passes to their fantastic pool and spa. I best not forget the Staff! The service was really exceptional, we had such a polite, friendly and cheerful waiter. He definitely made the experience. The food was really lovely. We arrived 7.30pm, ordered promptly. After 50minutes waiting we nudged to ask if our food was coming. It turns out our order hadn't gone through the till so once corrected had our starters around 8.40pm. We greedily ordered 3 starters, the octopus, scallops and beef tartare - all were wonderful and we were content at this point. It then felt like a long wait for the mains. We ordered 2 different parpardelle pasta dishes. Both had delicious sauces however I hate to say it - but the pasta was very much overcooked and not al dente. I'm sure the chefs can work out what went wrong there and they should look out to see if other customers say anything/do some quality control before food leaves the kitchen. Had we not waited so long I'd have sent it back but as things stood it was a 2hour+ meal. So on the whole dissapointing with flashes of brilliance. I think the staff were friendly and pleasant, but we were sat in the middle of the restaurant without food for 50 minutes and I think this could have been avoided by being more active with the guests. I do wonder if the encyclopedic menu contributed to issues with the pasta also - it must be hard to manage quality with so many distinct dishes.

Both nights we had sirloin steaks both served with garlic butter, peppercorn sauce fat chips tomatoes, and mushrooms. We ordered 3 plates of sushi and when it was brought to us the waitress gave us the impression it was all correct. Weirdly they have two tills on the opposite sides of the room, which makes a non existing queueing system not work. If they need two tills for accounting purposes, they should put the two tills next to each other by B&Bs and remove the seating by the window, making this area a queue line with a barrier from the In door. At least then people who have paid can wait in the centre and collect their order where the carrier bags are before using the exit door...it would seem more ideal? Great food but faffy getting it and very slow, took me 30 mins from entering the door, with no one in front of me queuing to using the exit door.
