As a vegan, every time I have been I've felt it is quite overpriced and the quality of my food has been poor compared to the meat eaters I am dining with, but today really confirmed it. I went for lunch with my partner and we ordered two mains; he ordered some kind of buffalo chicken burger/sandwich and I ordered the bean burger. We waited around 40 minutes for it to arrive and when it did, my bean burger was inedible. It was completely dry and solid on the outside yet seemed undercooked on the inside. I don't actually know why it was served as you could see just from looking at it that it was a mess. It didn't help that my burger bun had a big chunk missing out of it! I didn't eat it and explained why and it was thankfully taken off our bill without us having to ask. In fairness, the young FOH staff are excellent. They are friendly and attentive and really top notch. Unfortunately this won't be enough to encourage us back. For the frankly ridiculous prices charged (and that's not even considering the crazy cost of a glass of wine), I don't expect to be served something below standard just because I don't eat meat. I'll be sticking to The Traill Pavilion for vegan lunches and, as for dinner, it'll pub grub from here on out (cheap, fast and you know what to expect).

The food is always fantastic (my photos don't do it justice) generous plates filled with the best ingredients that have been cooked with passion. Rosie knows how to combine flavours to make you enjoy eating so much that you forget to speak to the person you're with! It's a lovely place to sit, there's a nice relaxed atmosphere here, and plenty of space so you don't feel you're lugging into other people's conversations. What's really enjoyable is hearing how the younger staff are encouraged and praised. In between cooking her fantastic food Rosie pops in and out of the kitchen keeping an eye on things and chatting to everyone, I think she must know everyone in Montrose. Make sure you book as there's only a few tables and a tiny kitchen.

This is a really lovely hotel and very reasonably priced. Neither party noticed this mistake but all readied up for this wedding about to head out/ have a peppermint from the desk and the receptionist asked (after talking about the mints and the wedding) "So when are you checking out? are you packed yet? you were supposed to be out half an hour ago." "I'm about to go to this wedding.... Im out tomorrow." they showed me that i was only in for a night... and that room was booked... they get me a taxi all the way to Brechin. Theres the rub: there wasn't any any conversation with the reception let alone the hour/ half hour warning. They did phone the Northern Hotel to cover me. I'd shudder to think what would have happened if i left my luggage after this mix-up The cleaning lady who complimented my dress, thank you- you were really nice :) cheap room for wedding season but not a cheerful supper.

I had spotted Salty's from the road before, it looks like a surf shack with a kids play park at the back. It was 1:30 and although busy it wasn’t overcrowded. It had lovely outdoors seating (if you get the weather for it!) There is also a kids play area which included a full sized Wessex helicopter! The food was good with generous portions and price was around normal going rate. We had a good time there and plenty of laughs! There was even a set of ‘snap cards’ at the table which two of our guys enjoyed - you’re only as young as you feel! Would recommend.

We have used another takeaway faithfully for the past 2 years ..we have now been converted due to the quality and quantity of the food we received , when we ordered a family munchie box and an extra 12" pizza. The Pakora were massive and delicious, the pieces of chicken tikka were huge and juicy, The burgers were 1/4llb and flame grilled, the abundance of donner meat was a surprise not to mention everything else that was included , the extra 12" pizza was not required but will not go to waste and I can tell ypu how much cheese was on the pizzas they were of the highest quality We got more food than we could possibly eat in one sitting and we will look forward to finishing it off tomorrow after work.
