The restaurant is light and airy, the staff are incredibly welcoming, helpful and friendly. The food is delicious - it's well-cooked, not greasy, fresh produce, crispy chips, and there's real attention to detail - for example my salad had a gorgeous dressing and slice of fresh orange. Good parking options, just off the high street and near Sainsbury's and Aldi. Food was lovely, I had the ultimate combo which was tasty, my wife had the quiche which she said was the best she's had, and 2 kids meals. Tea and hot chocolates were good. Desserts excellent! The service was outstanding, super friendly, attentive, and went out of their way to give us a really positive experience from start to finish. And all for very good value. We had arrived late but were welcomed, not hurried, and were able to take chocolate fudge cake and sticky toffee pudding (wow!) away with us. Recommended.

Okay, so I popped into the Riverbank Cafe in Newton Stewart, and honestly, it's just a cracking little spot. You know that feeling when you walk into a place and it just feels right? That's this place. We were just after a quick bite for lunch, and it totally hit the spot. I opted for the all day breakfasts, I know, it was lunchtime, but I had missed breakfast that morning…. lol , and seriously, best decision ever. But honestly, what makes this place shine is the vibe. It's totally chilled, no fuss, and the staff are just lovely. Really friendly, quick with the orders, and always had a smile. It's the kind of place you could just kick back with a coffee, or have a good chinwag with your mates. They seem to have loads on offer too – obviously the full breakfasts, but there was sandwiches, salads, and a mountain of cakes that looked seriously tempting. I spotted some proper chunky steak pies and cheesy onion pasties that I'm absolutely trying next time. Plus, good to see they've got veggie bits and a decent range of cold drinks and specials milkshakes. So yeah, if you're ever in Newton Stewart, you've gotta check out the Riverbank Cafe. It was really nice to find somewhere open at this time of day as quite often most cafes in D&G close 3.30-4pm even in the summer. The staff were very helpful in describing all the lovely cakes on display. We chose to have warm Ecclefechan tart, one with cream and one with ice cream. It was absolutely delicious and went well with the pot of tea and latte. It's a really nice little cafe with helpful and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

It is a small cafe, but generally has an extensive menu, and a specials board which changes every week. We have rarely had a bad meal, apart from one occasion when I had a beef stroganoff which tasted very nice but the beef was slightly chewy, when I was asked by the waitress if everything was alright, I told her about the beef and the lovely lady chef/owner, came and apologised most profusely and refused to charge us for the meal, (even though my husband had eaten every morcel that was left on my plate), she also got rid of the remaining stroganoff and took it off the menu.We have been on numerous occasions since and the food has been fabulous. We are always warmly greeted by all the delightful, hard working staff. The menu looked great and varied, so we were excited to go. However, we did end up leaving before we got served. The atmosphere was poor- it was very quiet, even though is was somewhat busy, the tables and chairs were uncomfortable and the general aesthetic was poor and not well thought through. They could really do with sprucing the place up and leaning more into the “cobweb” theme, with a dark, gothic, aesthetic. Their choices were more along the lines of cheap Halloween decorations. It took a very long time to get menus, and there were no displays to tell us what the cakes/bakes or the soup of the day were. As someone with ADHD, this was difficult to remember, after I’d asked what they were. We then waited an even longer time to be served- it appeared there was only one waitress working at the time. Eventually, we left after waiting a long time in an awkward feeling environment and went to a different cafe, which was a much better experience. I really hope they look at what they can do to improve, as it’s always sad to see a family business not achieving their best.

The dough was thick and undercooked, probably because there was a ridiculous amount of cheese on the pizza. I love cheese but the amount they put on it was ridiculous and it just ruined it. It’s safe to say I won’t be returning to this place!
