Thursday dinner stop with my wife and twin ten year old granddaughters.
Ordered two pizzas for the group, the Tasty Taco with home style crust and the Anja with deep dish crust. Everyone loved the Tasty Taco pizza and only the adults loved the Anja.
Tasty Taco with home style crust - easily the best taco pizza we have ever had. Description from the restaurant: salsa sauce covered with seasoned beef, cheddar and mozzarella cheese; baked then topped with lettuce, diced tomatoes, and nacho chips. Extremely flavorful, every bite was terrific. The crust really turns up the taste.
Anja with deep dish crust - an extremely uniquely tasty concoction. Description from the restaurant: German flavored with Canadian bacon, sauerkraut, jalapeños, and pineapple. Weird combo that tastes incredible. Our granddaughters were not big fans, possibly too different for their tastes. My wife and I really appreciated this pizza, so many strong flavors working with each other to make every bite amazing. The deep dish crust is different than the other crusts, it tastes like a speciality bread a person would pay for just to enjoy the taste of the crust. This pizza also had the tomato based sauce that likely is on a majority of their pizzas, it is incredibly flavorful and we would have bought jars of it if it was sold separately. If you are a fan of all of the components that are used in this pizza, give it a try; you’ll likely be pleasantly surprised.
Quick service, restaurant was clean, and employees kept super busy making sure customers had the ideal experience.

It was right across the street from the hotel we stayed at. We got the Chicken Bacon Alfredo on thin crust and it was delicious. Exactly what we needed after a long day of travel. Our waitress was wonderful and if I ever pass through this area again will definitely stop back.

Our car had issues while going through town. We needed food within walking distance and we chose to order food to go from here.
Glad we did. The food was done fast, fresh salad fixins with a lot of options. Pleanty of choices. The shrimp fettuccine sauce was fresh and delicious.
Portions were respectable. No complaints.
Since we didn't eat there I'm not rating atmosphere. However it was very clean and lots of seating.

We had a couple different brisket sandwiches and they were excellent. Best brisket in a long time. We were in a back room since we had a dog with us but enjoyed it. My partner and I stopped here while traveling through Chamberlain on a Friday night around 7:15 PM. Despite how very busy the restaurant was, the experience was excellent from start to finish.
Service & Ambiance
* The hostess was incredibly pleasant and managed to seat us within just 5 minutes, which was impressive given the crowd.
* Our server, Hailey, was phenomenal! She was helpful, had a great attitude, lots of energy, and was very punctual throughout our entire meal. Excellent service is hard to find, and Hailey delivered!
The Food
We were thoroughly impressed with the menu.
* Appetizer: Bayou Shrimp - Excellent! A great way to start the meal.
* Main Course: Bourbon Ribs (Split) - These were absolutely, exceptionally good. The flavor was outstanding, and they were perfectly cooked.
Overall Recommendation
The Smoking Mule is a must-visit. From the genuinely pleasant service to the truly amazing food, they hit all the right notes even on a peak weekend night.
I highly recommend this place! I would love to come back during the day to see the great Missouri River.

If I’m ever passing by here again I will definitely come back here to eat! We had been traveling a long time and we put an order in 10 mins before kitchen closed. They were so kind and accommodating! I ordered the lobster roll and it was AMAZING! Right up there with lobster rolls from Maine, and such a good portion too. My dad ordered the pork nachos and enjoyed them. We sat down to eat in the bar since the restaurant area had closed and the bartender was super helpful and recommended a sample for the beers we had, so glad she did because I got the best one I could have had with my lobster roll, it was a pineapple seltzer. The staff was super nice and even put fun music on for us. Definitely a gem of a place right of the river and worth the 7 min drive right off of 90.

This was our second attempt at The Smoking Mule. They were closed the first time we went (my fault for not checking, but gave us a chance to visit Upper Crust Pizza). Good atmosphere in a cool location near the Missouri River. We sat at the bar which was empty when we arrived but steadily filled up while we were there. We are a fan of Palace City Brewing and enjoyed the opportunity to have the Braying Brown Brew (a Smoking Mule exclusive) along with a few other local beers. I had the brisket burger. The beef was a little dry but otherwise a good burger. My wife had the Lobster and Shrimp Po’ Boy which she enjoyed. The Kick Ass Loaded Beans were good as well. The restaurant had a cool gift shop and all of the staff were friendly. I would definitely visit again if we are in the area.

Kudos to the bartender for taking the time to top off the beers so you're not getting 20% foam. Plus, the selection has some very tasty options.
We didn't love the food. I asked for medium doneness on the burger, but it was over cooked and underseasoned.
My wife got the pulled pork grilled cheese, which had a lot of pork, but it was underseasoned and seemed like it was missing something.
Their fries are great, and the beans they make were tasty. I'd go back for beer and skip the food.

Surprise, rode find. My wife had stuffed shrimp and I had the steak special. Very rarely to I order steak at a restaurant. For some reason I did and it was absolutely perfect. This is the worst place to be. The food was super cold and we asked them to reheat but they just heated the plate and got a new batch. Hence we didn’t ask the other 2 dishes to be heated. We didn’t eat it. The photos are the actual representation of how it was when we left. Broken plates , cold food and bad vegetables. How could a veggie fajita be bad ? The tortilla was taken directly from the packet. The waiter didn’t bother to even ask what was the issue when we left. No wonder the place is deserted. I got a 4 piece chicken strip basket & it didn’t come with the Texas toast. Usually it does, so I asked the guy running the cash register. He went and checked in the kitchen and said, it only comes with it if you are getting fries & a drink. The chicken strips were hot & fresh, so that was good. The fries were mediocre. Later, I went to order a dipped chocolate cone & a kid’s dish of ice cream. The kids dish was maybe 2 tablespoons. I'm really not a "bar guy" but my wife and I went to Silver Dollar Bar because we were told the food was good and it was.
The first time we went was after lunch hours but before dinner so there wasn't many customers. The staff was super nice and the service was fast. The burgers are awesome and so we're the fried mushrooms we had as an appetizer.
Today we went back around 6 PM and there was a pretty good crowd inside.
Just like our first time the staff was all smiles and our food came out quickly.

An excellent place to take a load off and relax. The porch is so nice! I had a burger and fries and let me tell you, they are excellent. You can tell it's real fresh ground beef that they hand patty here. It tastes great. Nothing fancy. I just had onions on mine (you can also get pickles) but it was Deepak. They warmed and drained the bonds so well and were super generous with really juicy onions. The French fries were also fantastic. Real potato, fried top just the right crispiness. Not over salted. I've been there twice and had 4 items. My caramel roll was small and dense with little flavor and the caramel made the bread soggy on top but it wasn't gooey or delicious or even on most of the roll. I love caramel rolls but I'd have to say the cinnamon roll was better. The bread was still too dense and flavorless and the portion was small for $2+ but there was ample average tasting cream cheese frosting on it. I also had an apple cinnamon muffin. Yuck! No apple flavor at all tasted like a bad box brand with too much baking powder I could see cinnamon but it really had no flavor, even the topping was dissapointing. I also had a fudgy oatmeal bar that had too much coconut oil or some other clearish butter like substance caked in the bottom. The oatmeal tasted like cinnamon which I don't like with my chocolate but otherwise just no flavor and bad texture. The chocolate tastes like chocolate chips so that was OK. Started with the nachos then had the shaved prime rib on flatbread. Some of the best food I have ever had no exaggeration. Great root beer too. The dinner menu looked amazing. I ordered to go the smoked pheasant pasta in a tequila sauce with charred corn and fresh cilantro for $29. This is what I got: no cilantro, what seemed like corn from a can and I didn't taste the tequila sauce. Plus side, tons of pheasant. On my 3rd bite, I found two large bones. I called the restaurant to give them a heads up on the bones, left a voicemail. Never heard back.

Such high hopes going out of our way to try something, upon arrival we were told restaurant was open , stood at The restaurant for five minutes no one came went back to the front desk an told they were closed. They said no they’re not. They went and got the gentleman who helped us. Drive there now and just wait outside like it’s Black Friday ‘04 and you want to buy a cheap vacuum. This was hands down the best food we’ve had in South Dakota. My husband and I FINALLY got to try this place out and it was so worth the wait!!! It’s a testament to the family and employees who set the tone for their business when even all the other customers there at the same time as us were kind, conversational, and happy! Amazing atmosphere and just the thing needed in the area! My husband and I got the nachos and a wet burrito, my parents who joined us later got the Cuban and tacos and there wasn’t one thing I’d change about any of it! I’m a picky eater myself but I got all the toppings and (although nervous) trusted the process and was not disappointed, it was easily some of the best food we’ve had in a long time. Aaaand don’t even get me started about the drinks!! My mom and I agreed it was hands down the best piña colada we’d ever had 20/10. For the folks of chamberlain and surrounding areas, and all those visitors traveling across the state of South Dakota whose only options before were gas station food or if you’re lucky a McDonald’s right off the exit, this is now the best place and a must stop for speedy amazing food on your roadtrip, I can’t recommend enough
