It was quite a let down for the price you pay you want it fresh. Hopefully next time we come back I can change this review. Unfortunately, they included pumpkin seeds instead which left me feeling a bit meh. I did detect chunks of lamb which were lovely. I also added 'garlic sauce' to try and complement the lamb but they forgot to add it. eh. I also tried the Turmeric Drink they make in-house and it wasn't to my taste. It's spacious (surprisingly, not many others are in Mackay township) and the service friendly, along with the food combining with a healthy selection of drinks, no matter what your poison, rounding out the trifecta! The food is delicious, hearty, wholesome value for money. The steak is of a quality worthy of this major beef producing region & are more than ample in proportion! You won't come away from here feeling hungry. The coral trout almondine was gob-smacking restaurant quality, and tasted next level delicious! The garlic bread was what it tasted like ~ bulk production, commercial soft, doughy bread ~ though still palatable and unable to detract from the splendour of the meal. The beer here was cheaper than everywhere else in Mackay that I went to (& I like beer!) and with the family owned Cooper's Pale Ale ON TAP put paid to the rest of the afternoon 🍻. Very satisfying. If you want to go to the pub for a meal, in Mackay you go here! The large, roomy public bar is order at the bar, no booking required though I'd definitely make a reservation if attending the bistro. It was fair dinkum the best pub food I've had in years.

The food was so disappointing, purchased a variety of crepes and disliked all of them. We went here for Mother’s Day breakfast. The service was beyond terrible. Yelled at from across the restaurant where to sit because lazy staff couldn't walk over. Today however was the complete opposite. The customer service was shocking. I got the fable meaty mushroom flat grill, as always and it was awful. There was no mayo present which is listed on the menu, it was dry, the flat grill was barely filled and the fable meat itself was so flavourless. I also asked for avocado instead of the listed cherry tomato on the flat grill and I honestly shouldn't of bothered. There was miniscule amounts of smashed avocado. I went to one of the servers to mention that there was no mayo on my flat grill and I honestly feel sorry for her because the attitude the chef gave her when she asked for me was appalling. I ended up complaining to the chef myself (the lady with the red hair) and I received the same attitude. I complained that the meal was dry and it didn't have the mayo on it like the menu says. She ended up giving me a side dish of vegan mayo for it. The other two people I dined with had a similar experience. Both their flat grills were dry and underfilled. It seems like they had no effort in their meals today. I'm just disappointed because every other time I have dined here the flat grills have been saucy, loaded and flavourful. We went to pay for the meal and the lady at the counter was also rude. She didn't ask how our meals were and when we told her she didn't seem to care. She said the head chef made the flat grills today...I felt more shocked and disappointed knowing that. They were awful. This experience has seriously ruined what I thought of this place and I won't be returning. April 2022 5/5 I've been here twice in two weeks to get the limited edition Fable Meaty Mushroom Flat Grill as it is the only vegan option on the menu. I swapped out the tomato for avocado which was no additonal charge and I reckon I got half an avocado both times I ordered this! Incredible. The flat grill was loaded with mushroom meat and all the flavours were delicious!The side salad was a great accompaniment to this. I also had a chai latte which was the perfect drinking temperature when it got to the table!! I dined in today again and added chips and vegan mayo which I can highly recommend. The chips were super flavourful and perfectly cooked which paired very well with the vegan mayo and flat grill. Please make this a regular menu item! Great service with friendly and attentive staff.

After multiple times of asking where our food was it all came out in a matter of 5/10 minutes. Why couldnt you do this when we first got there? Not good enough . My mother in law asked for no chilli in her food and she got chilli in it, and my partners and his dads combination omelette were burnt on the bottom from rushing the orders, my son didn't even eat his salt and pepper calamari because it tasted foul! And hes 8 years old and knows what tastes good and what does not . You wouldn't of needed to rush it if you didn't make us wait for so god damn long . No apologies from the staff and no sympathy what so ever . You took 2 meals off our bill but really after the treatment we received it should of been at least 50% off or more. The whole place needs a wake up call. Disgusting bathrooms with no handtowel and a dirty sink, ever heard of hiring a cleaner to make it look presentable? Workplace health and safety need to be called into this place because it’s definitely not up to standard. You need to wake up to yourselves and learn to time manage properly. My chicken bao bun was tender and flavoursome and the Yakiniku beef was delicious, but my wife’s wagyu beef tasted bland and was a very small serving for $30 (see attached photo), and so was her miso soup. It happened when I had dinner with a friend in Ban-Na Thai restaurant in the end of July. My friend and I ordered 2 dishes and 2 rice, food was nice but made me very thirsty after eating. Anyway, I paid the bill with cash then we both walked out of the restaurant. When we stood outside of the restaurant, my friend told me that it didn’t sound right, shouldn’t have cost that much. I quickly added up what we ordered and my friend was right. So we went back to the restaurant immediately and asked for the receipt. They charged us an extra takeaway dish which we didn’t order and refunded us the extra money they charged us. It could have been a mistake but definitely wouldn’t hurt to get a receipt and check what you are charged when paying the bill especially when there are many people who order many dishes and drinks in the restaurant.

What a massive letdown. First off, the service was outstanding. We were seated promptly, and the staff were very welcoming. No complaints there, but the food was a completely different story. I ordered the lite cut prime rib with salt and pepper calamari, vegetables, and mashed potatoes. While the steak was perfectly cooked to medium, that's where the positives ended. It wasn't seasoned and was served cold. The calamari was chewy and burnt, the mashed potatoes tasted like they were made from frozen instant potatoes and were also cold. The vegetables were the only part of the meal I actually enjoyed. The whole dish lacked flavor, and I didn’t even finish it. I tried my Mum’s dish, the Bacon Avocado & Béarnaise Chicken Schnitzel, and it, too, was served cold and packed flavour, with the avocado being served brown. We spoke to the manager she was lovely and gave me $30 for the caeser out of the $108 I spent not including the $50 on drinks. We left after eating not even half of our meals combined. The waitress seemed very attentive at first until we weren't ready for our meals and asked for another 5 minutes. The waitress came back outside multiple times but never came to our table. We waited another 15 minutes before she came back to us. Then the meals took a while to come out aswell which is concerning as the cafe was bascially empty with only a few other tables filled. I ordered the only labelled vegan option on the menu and they didn't have it available which was very disappointing. I ordered the vege burger instead (which is apparently vegan but not labelled vegan on the menu). I made it sure the meal contained no macadamia nuts as I am allergic but I still had a reaction to the beetroot hummus on the burger and couldn't eat half of it. The burger was very average. It tasted like all the components were either out of a bottle or cooked from frozen. It lacked a lot of flavour. The chips were undercooked and unseasoned. The other people I dined with were disappointed in their meals aswell. I guess I was expecting more from a cafe that is locally loved.

Tonight was just awful. I had the rack of American ribs. They had been pulled from a bag and wiped with BBQ sauce, they looked like boiled meat, the blood had formed and congealed to the shape of the bag. No effort had been made in the presentation, it looked like a dogs dinner. The sauce had no viscosity and just ran off in to a pool on the plate. They had made no attempt to render any of the fat (and there was a lot) or caramelise the sauce…..this was lazy cheffing at its best. I was not asked about my meal at any point. Saw the sign asking for review, and here I am, it was probably better this way as it would have been embarrassing for all if I had complained. My employer was paying, so I was not too concerned about value. But you need to know, do not waste your own money here.

We stayed an extra night at the Shakespeare Motel, room was spacious, very clean and bed was ok, I prefere soft myself, it was medium as they are in most motels. Complementary continental breakfast was lovely with an added touch of fresh baked divine raspberry muffins, gluten free bread, with fruit and yogurt all included with the usual things. We've found our go to place everytime we travel south and are looking forward to our next stay. Thank you Shakespeare staff see you again.

Portion size was what you would expect. The honey chicken was odd, the sauce was separated from the chicken and it didn't taste like honey atall- more like golden syrup. The brochure states they will work with you to create your event. They don’t. It’s difficult to get a call back or a response to your email. On the day the event coordinator is not onsite, and we were left waiting outside in the heat whilst the room was opened up for us to set up. We were in the regatta room which is a concrete basement room, with strip lighting that would be good for a night time event, but a day event with the curtains closed it was so dark. It was not light and airy with the outdoor shutters closed - definitely not worth the cost of the room hire. The staff on the day were really lovely and accommodating, and the food is really good. Place was very clean and because it was so quiet we hand plenty of seating options available to us. When we ordered food its took about 25 minutes to arrive and our drinks were filled with too much ice. I had a beef burger with bacon which look good at first glance but the bacon was overly fatty and way too much Mayo which just overpowered the taste of everything else. The chips were plentiful and seasoned well and complimented the burger which on its own was average at best. My partner ordered the Steak Sandwich which was tasty and also very filling as it was quiet large so no complaints on that except maybe toast the bread a bit longer so it doesn't go as soggy. We also ordered a garlic bread to share which was soft and not too strong in flavour so that's a bonus too. The service from our waitress was fine however she didn't come to check if everything was OK. Will maybe head back again in a few weeks and try something else from the menu and at time of day when its busy to see what kind of atmosphere it has with more people around.

So I take it up to the staff and they agree to cook it again.. when I received it it was 7:40pm.. this time.. the amount of greens was decent.. still not $50 worth but it was cooked perfect. How ever the streak was worse! Haha! Like fully over cooked.. this time..he/she took it to the next level. Even with no other orders present it was 100% void of moisture and colour, just the kind of product Bob Jane would be proud to stock.. (see second picture) if I had ordered well done.. fine.. but I didn’t and specifically told the stuff that is was over done the first time. So how do you fix it? Well, If you look at the first picture, you will see the sauce is in a ramekin.. However, on the new steak, it was poured all over the steak I’m sadly going to assume..it was in an attempt to cover up it overcooked condition of the second. I just ate it.. we had been there almost 2 hours for..well, really just 2 meals. You can basically forget the bread because it would have almost to bearing on the mains. 3 times eating here. I won’t be again.. I should have just played it safe with McDonalds. 🤦🏼‍♂️ Ps, short Asian guy holding the bar down was the only reason I didn’t demand my money back and leave. 100% professional and courteous.
