However, the food was disappointing. We were going to order the mushroom ravioli but the server said it was only 4 small raviolis for ~$36, that’s laughable. We got the pizza instead for more calories for the price. We’ve had fig prosciutto pizza several places in the past and love it but it was pretty flavorless here with not very generous toppings/sauce/cheese. They didn’t have any balsamic glaze to help add flavor/sauce. Overall I think a child could probably make the pizza we had, it was very simple and plain. I think expensive restaurants should be able to make quality food that is challenging to make at home. The Brussels sprouts also were underwhelming compared to many other places I’ve ordered them. Not all sides were charred/crispy and they didn’t taste very flavorful either. Would not recommend dining here, perhaps stop for drinks for the atmosphere then eat elsewhere.

Speaking of dishes, each one was presented in dinnerware that elevated the presentation and overall experience, and the steak knives are etched with "Auro", such a great touch. Pacing of the meal was perfect, I never felt rushed, had the right amount of time between courses to let food settle, but never waited too long for anything. I also loved the exposed kitchen. I was mesmerized by watching the well-oiled machine during my meal. Last but definitely not least - service! The staff a chef hires is a reflection on the character of the chef. Every individual I encountered at Auro was warm, kind, knowledgeable and professional. My primary server Bri was a delight, and my primary sommelier Derek (sp?) was a joy to talk with about the wine (and I learned he came from Ever in Chicago where I dined just about a month ago!) I don't know if I went when the B team was scheduled but the rice was very chewy for me and the flavors somewhat lacked so I wasn't entirely impressed. If you know, you know. So I digress and on this holy day, the whole Napa Valley has taken the day off, but I found this gem of a restaurant open. I'm flexible so as my Chinese restaurant substitute, I went here, had no choice. I'd never been here, but a Thai friend once told me that if you want a glimpse of a new-to-you Thai restaurant, start with Pad Thai as it's their national dish and it'd be a good indication for the rest of the menu. In remembering that little pearl of wisdom, that's exactly what I did, an order of Pad Thai and I was pleasantly pleased. Pad Thai isn't created equally, some are overly flavorful that it's overwhelming and others, bland as cardboard. For me at least, this one order was perfection, the midpoint between too flavorful and cardboard. I was solo so I had the disadvantage of ordering one dish, but there were other tables that had a variety and the looked great, but in reading how others were enjoying their meal, it appeared convincing it was a hit with others. In summary, I give these folks thumbs up and perhaps my only other observation is that they're a bit overpriced, but then again, you're Napa Valley in Calistoga where things are expectedly premiumly priced.

Lunch prices came with some good offers such as lowering the pasta portions and adding salad instead of the full meal which I thought was great idea. They also had a discount on the wine that day so hooray for us! Between the 7 of us we ordered: - 2 basket of garlic bread. Bread was good but quite heavy so would suggest to just order 1 basket and not 2. - burrata was tough, tasteless and just plain sad. - Godfather pasta seemed like a good idea for my hubby and his dad but they soon regretted it and couldn't even finish it. Just too much and very heavy. - Vitorio was nice but again on the creamy heavy side. - Glorious pasta (vegetarian) was quite heavy as well - piacere pasta was somewhat lighter version of Vitorio - mushroom risotto was good Food was decent but heavy creamy stuff so not really authentic Italian but more the American fusion version of it which honestly makes me unhappy. We all ordered the small pasta portions which came with a side salad but still the pasta was quite heavy and nobody could finish it. Can't say will return although i'm sure it will be tough to find authentic italian restaurant in this area.
