We flew in from HNL and got in around 2030 hours so was looking for a quick spot to eat. Found this place was open until 2130 hours so quickly headed to it from the airport which was a 5min. drive. Parked in the slanted stalls outside of the restaurant and walked in using their ADA ramp leading towards the front near the register. When you walk through their screen door, right away I get mom and pop shop kine feels. Super laid back, local, NO a/c so when we came in at night, i'm assuming that was cool for what it usually can be. It's open air jealousy windows. You don't have to check in at front, you just find an open spot on their counters where small brown stools are provided for you to sit on. The counters have all the amenities needed for this saimin shop. Once you take a seat, a server will come over and give you menus to start looking. They offer fountain drinks and can sodas as well. The server came took our orders and within 15min started to bring our food out to us. The broth was hot but not piping hot. The skewers were flavorful however a little on the tougher side and not as moist as I would have thought. Still very good. I ordered a medium saimin, 2 beef and 1 chicken skewer and that filled me up just right. Came out to $20.75. ( I only had water)) The bathroom is a single for all to use and was clean. Since it is open air and windows are open as well there was not a strong smell. The building is smaller and gives plantation home vibes. Cute spot for some ono saimin. Broth was nice and smooth, not being too salty, which I was surprised since we came closer to closing so I would have thought we would be getting the bottom of the pot. Didn't get to try to pie, but did get almond cookies to finish and that was really ono too!

Then the manager asked the staff if they put the correct amount of oreos in and they sheepishly said yes so the manager turned to me and said nope, we won't give you any more. This not just a market but a hidden gem that many of the locals love and frequent often. You do see a few tourists here but they are the exception not the norm. When you get a lunch special they pile a pound or two of food into your box and you will not go hungry along with whoever you are sharing it with. If the lunch specials are not to your taste, then start trying their Poke which is the freshest on the island. They give free samples to find the one or more that fits your taste. It is a locally owned family fish market that just happens to serve food. No seating inside, just picnic tables outside with umbrellas. As always watch out for the chickens they are sneaky. Reminds me of Tanioka’s in Waipahu. I got the 2 choice poke bowl for $20 with spicy ahi w/unagi sauce drizzle all over and oyster shoyu. But if you want some of the freshest seafood and best Poke’ on Kauai, then you found a winner. I am hesitant to write a review because this place is so good I want to keep it to the locals and myself when I visit. We love down to earth places with no pretentiousness. This was sooooo local — and sits in an industrial park area - no where near the ocean or where a typical tourist would roam. And that’s also what makes it so special. The staff is wonderful - and very helpful. And the seafood and Poke’ choices are abundant. Everything is super fresh! I don’t think the Ahi or Salmon had stopped swimming an hour earlier! If you want the softshell crab, you better be there before 7:30am. Otherwise it’s sold out for the day! We each ordered a poke’ bowl w 2 choices, sat outside on a picnic table while watching the cars go by. Absolutely loved it. Make sure you get the added sauces they make and some dried onion added in! Others we noted were standing and eating in the parking lot! It’s worth it! Highly Highly recommend! I plan to go back and try the fried chicken and some other variants of the poke. If I can get up early enough, I will get the softshell crab!
