Consistently Disappointing – Avoid Nimmitabel Bakery @ Jindabyne
Over the course of several visits to Nimmitabel Bakery @ Jindabyne, I had hoped things might improve. Sadly, every single time I’ve been there, the experience has been consistently poor—and it’s now clear this isn’t just a one-off bad day or a random mistake. The issues are repetitive and deeply ingrained in both the food quality and customer service. This bakery has proven time and time again that it simply doesn’t care about its customers.
Let’s start with the service, which is downright dismal. Each visit, I’ve been greeted with the same cold, disengaged attitude from staff who behave like serving customers is a chore. There’s no warmth, no friendliness, and certainly no sense of hospitality. They barely look up when you order, and any interaction feels rushed, dismissive, and borderline rude. On multiple occasions, I’ve felt like I was imposing just by asking a simple question about the menu. It’s as if the staff resent having to serve anyone at all.
Now onto the food—which somehow manages to be worse. Every pie I’ve tried has been dried out, overcooked on the outside, and questionably warm inside. The so-called “chunky steak” pies are the biggest offenders. Instead of generous chunks of tender meat, I’ve consistently been served a thick, gluey gravy with barely any trace of actual steak. The filling is congealed and unpleasant, clearly having sat in a warmer far too long. It’s not only unappetizing—it’s borderline inedible. This exact issue has occurred on every visit, so it’s clearly the norm, not the exception.
The pastry is no better—dry, brittle, and often burned around the edges. I’ve tried to give other items on the menu a fair go as well, like sausage rolls and different pie varieties, and they’ve all followed the same disappointing pattern: bland, greasy, poorly heated, and lacking any sort of freshness or flavor. Everything seems pre-prepared and reheated without care.
What makes it worse is the pricing. For what you’re getting—subpar food served with zero customer appreciation—the prices are unjustifiably high. It’s a tourist trap in the worst sense, relying on location and convenience instead of delivering quality or value. There’s no pride in the product, no effort to improve, and absolutely no accountability for the customer experience.
I kept giving this place the benefit of the doubt, hoping that maybe I caught them on a bad day. But after multiple visits, it’s obvious that this is just how they operate. Indifferent staff, overpriced and poorly prepared food, and an atmosphere that makes you feel unwelcome.
Nimmitabel Bakery @ Jindabyne has been consistently disappointing. I won’t be returning again, and I strongly advise others to steer clear. There are far better places to spend your money—places that actually appreciate their customers and serve food that isn’t a gamble.
