Very impressive public house, lots of different rooms and places to sit together, both inside and out. Large range of cask ales. A small group we ordered the apparently famous pies and ordered beef type with peas and gravy which came in a package including a select pint of cask ale for around £13. Unfortunately the pie was not fresh, it gave the impression it had been held in a hot oven for a couple of days. The semi mushy peas appeared to be from a tin and the gravy was very rich and only a small amount. Look I loved the pub. All the staff we met were wonderful. The pies were not up to scratch though.

The Head of Steam has been a favourite of mine since my student days at Huddersfield University from 2006 to 2010 and it hasn't changed for the worse. I come to Huddersfield most years for the Contemporary Music Festival. That's how I discovered Bar Maroc. I go to Maroc as a bar. It does do food and I've heard the pizza is fantastic. You enter Bar Maroc through what looks like a back entrance to a shopping mall. You go up some industrial stairs, wondering what you might find. You're enter into a place with a distinct middle east vibe. A great subtly lit irregular shaped space with a lovely ambience. Great staff. I use it for a drink, or two, between concerts and, sometimes, a night cap. It's open quite late and would be a super place for a few drinks with friends.

Decorated thematically. Staff was helpful and pizza big, thin, crunchy and tasty. But be aware - only vegan options! My cider wasn't very cold but when I asked for ice they did offer some. Fairly good value for money. They also have a carpark. The best part is that they are open till late and offer food after hours when many pubs don't. For this alone they get 5* - open till 11pm on weekdays usually and up to 2 or 3am weekends. The infrastructure of seating isn't the comfiest but you have to find your spot :)

Reason for 1 star food is they don't sell food. Apart from that, it's a really good night out! We went top floor for the majority of the night, there's a bar downstairs and upstairs. Dance floor is a nice size and there's plenty if seats and booths to sit down if you wish too. There's a way down to the smoking area from upstairs without having to go.down and through the bottom floor dancefloor. Music was great, lights and smoke machines was great. Great selection and choice if alcohol however I did think the prices was pretty expensive. 1 can of blue hooch was priced at £5.25 which I think was pretty steep. Great drinking pub with an amazing aray of craft, cask and bottled beers. Last went with my daughter on Tuesday after a depressing defeat against Blackpool. Oktoberfest had started so there was a great range of german beers on offer. I started with a weissebeer Dunkeld, which was delicacies, followed by the Rothaus Pils. Couldn't believe I could get it in Huddersfield. I used to travel to Karlsruhe and the black forest and had it many times there. I then had the Ayinger Kellerbier, which was also nice. However, I saved the best until last. Abinger Celebrator. A dark, rich and intense brew which was both delicious and moreish. This comes from not actually slow cooking the meat and not breaking down the connective tissues inside the meat making a fatty brisket but tender enough to flake on the fork. Duck starter was strange in that it came made already. Would of preferred it all separate so I could make my own but was nice and I enjoyed the 2 pancakes. Partners brisket was tougher than mine according to her. She wasn't a fan of the bratwurst. Kids meals were OK no complaints and the kids happily eat their food in which they are usually picky or they eat all different random food items. Really good selection of drinks and ice cream included with the meal. Cocktails were great, tried around 5 of them. Worst of the bunch was the goldfish one take the bait or something in which it just had a taste of gin and lemonade. Games upstairs were fun and more accessible than heading to the sea side but lacks variety, 4 units were out of order leaving around 12 units to play on. Overall a great experience but the food needs some improvement.

A very nice, comfortable environment in which to enjoy a meal. The 20% discount & tap beers at 3 pounds (presume promotional, but a great deal) was an added bonus. The food was very tasty & well presented & the steaks beautifully cooked. It was unfortunate that the steaks were served on a substantial dollop of mayo & whilst I know it is not that unusual to enjoy this combination (although I think it is a bizarre), I have an allergy, plus I am not sure it stated on the menu that it was served in this fashion. However, it was swiftly rectified & the problem was solved, but perhaps Mayo could be served on the side in a small pot - assuming it is considered an essential accompaniment to what is a well cooked & tasty steak? I might add that the pesto that accompanied the flat bread starter was a very miserly portion, so perhaps a bit extra could be considered, with slightly less Olive oil. However, overall, an enjoyable experience & we hope they do well. There is some fierce competition along Lindley high street, so they will need to work hard to maintain the high standards they have set thus far, but they are off to a great start. Finally, the staff were delightful & very attentive.
