The beer list isn't as extensive as it was pre shake up. They dont have enough tables. New to the area and were looking for a nice higher end place to frequent. Menu is uninspiring and quite confused very bare bones dishes nothing groundbraking here. People saying this is the best food they've had need to venture out more. Ordered the Hamachi, Steak Romesco, and Tiger Shrimp, execution fell flat on all dishes. Hamachi was the best dish we had flavor wise I'll give them that, but the fish was so think sliced it fell apart when trying to wrap up into a bite, not worth the price point of dish for maybe 2oz of fish. Steak Remesco was extrmely rough, "roasted potatoes" were clearly dropped into the deep fryer raw, they were dry outside and undercooked and hard in the middle. Steak was ordered medium rare, came out medium. And the most bizarre of the dish was the half grilled leek, partial root left on, thrown on top. Leeks are delicious when done right, however they're stringy, was pretty difficult to cut the half leek down with the cheao knife provided. Leek was also a bit slimy. Whole dish lacked seasoning. Black Tiger Shrimp was a let down on a simple dish, shrimp was overcooked, pasta was overcooked. Whole dish lacked flavor and there was at least a tablespoon of oil/grease on the plate half way through. Couldn't even get through that one. On a good note server was polite, atmosphere was nice and the drinks were good, maybe this was just a bad night for the kitchen but based on our first experience here last night we won't be back. $200 dollar dinner, not worth half that.

Desiring a popular local spot to eat, we came across Vintage @ 501. It is located in the historic downtown area directly across from the stylish, art deco City Hall. I'm not sure what vintage means to you, but if it's a slightly worn & dark sports bar w large ad signs of a bygone era, or paper menus that are now wrinkled w repeated use, or at my table the little extra effort needed to pry my phone from the sticky surface, this place might tick off the boxes. But Vintage @ 501 is known for their food and the menu has a lot to choose from. We were excited to find the Beef Brisket Plate, and then to split it. We made an outstanding choice! The large helping of mashed potatoes, butter glazed beans & brisket shared between the two of us made for a filling and pleasing meal for both. I thought the slow roasted brisket was especially tender and tasty especially with the Cabernet reduction gravy covering it. My wife enjoyed her meal, but noticed the absence of carrots as described on the menu and thought the green beans could be helped by adding salt. By the end of our meal, "vintage" had taken on a new meaning: delicious home-cooked, comfort food w the one you love ❤️ the most!

The existence of Murphy’s Burger Challenge continually plagued my thoughts, taunting me for chickening out, and I vowed to one day to return and face my fears as well as that burger head on… and after my major league eating debut in July, I knew my return to Rockford this summer would finally be the year… I eagerly got to Murphy’s early the day of the challenge to set up my camera, drinks, and mental state. The cheese coated mounds of meat wrapped in chewy bacon were the easiest part to get down. Then it was time for this beastly bun. It had a tough crust almost like a pizza with a similarly doughy flavor. Outrageously delicious, but a slog to plough through for my jaw and esophagus. Luckily the bottom bun soaked up plenty of burger juice to keep it soft and added an extra layer of nuance to its flavor staving off fatigue. After finishing the meats, veggies, and bun, all I had left were the crispy fries. The first handful tasted fantastic, but each bundle of taters just became harder and harder to swallow. My gut was broaching capacity considering the unusually crazy volume of fluid I ending up needing to keep all this food moving down. My eating speed exponentially decreased with every spud induced bite. With my last fiber of gumption, I cleared the very last bit of food from my mouth at 46:37 making me the 5th human begin to EVER finish the Murphy’s Burger Challenge! This was without a doubt my absolute most GRUELING challenge yet in terms of volume and duration. The before and after weights of my tray revealed that I had consumed 9.3 lbs of total food! This doesn’t even count for the pitcher and a half of soda that it took me to get it down as well. My gut was close to if not at MAX capacity by the end making my now 11th restaurant challenge win a particularly proud accomplishment. As I basked in distended glory, the owner came over to congratulate me with my Murphy’s gift card, a Murphy’s t-shirt, and even a rad Murphy’s Mug! When I tell you the piece of hamburger meet on my rolls was the size of a quart maybe a little bigger. I had to put 2 pieces of meet on one bun to be able to eat it. They where cold and so was my fries. So bad. We paid 38 dollars for not worth eating, we put it in a book and brought it home to our pup!

But that wasn't enough they also have a takeout menu where you can order that you like and taste it and bring them home. Great place for quiet date or to hang out with old acquaintances.

In fact, the servers today were different from the servers that we had 2 weeks ago. I get the idea that people are not sticking around here anymore. I ordered an 8oz filet mignon and herbed french fries. My boyfriend ordered the cioppino and campanelle mac & cheese. My filet was delicious and perfectly cooked and the fries had a great herb flavor. I had some and the cioppino and it was the best broth I’ve ever tasted! For dessert we split a warm chocolate cake (asked for ice cream on the side). I love the actual “cake” part of chocolate cake so I was a bit surprised that the entire middle of the cake was more of a pudding texture with raspberries inside of it. I wish they would have been more specific about that on the menu. Overall it was a fantastic experience and I hope to be back for another special occasion.

It seems like this is the spot to go after a show and they couldn't keep up. We ordered a cinnamon roll which was mostly burned. We tried it and even scraped some of the burned parts off not wanting to make a big deal about it but it wasn’t edible. We sent it back and ultimately decided to get another but to take it to-go after our meal. Come to find at home the second one was more burned than the first. I’m so confused… as it’s black. It’s not avoidable to see how burned it was so it just comes across that they simply don’t care about what they are serving. It was an expensive and disappointing outing for us in the end. I was really hoping they would redeem themselves so we could become a regular again. Even after at least half a dozen issues we have experienced, I did still give 2 stars regardless because the server was nice as well as who I believe was the owner and the food that we have had, both this time and past times, that has not been messed up in some way has still been pretty good. This place has the ability to be great but the quality control is just not there. I really am pulling for them to put all the puzzle pieces together to make this a great place.
