Now, what I can’t get enough of, the one that keeps me coming back, is the Pastrami Rueben. They smoke the pastrami on site, and oh my, does it set it apart. I am now ruined for all other pastrami. It is full of flavor, a little smoky, and perfectly cooked. Wonderful sauerkraut braised in their Blonde beer tops the pastrami. The rye bread is also well buttered, and expertly toasted. The food was subpar. I had a chicken sandwich that had zero flavor, had to add some crema from my wife's shrimp tacos and even then was just ok. The fries were so greasy, and the fries seemed like they were the bottom of the bag as they were all small chunks not even full long fries. The restaurant is family friendly and located across from the creek with a beautiful walking trail. We were able to walk up and get a table for 4 with no wait just before 12pm on a weekday. Everyone was friendly. The atmosphere is nice. We were in the first room to the left. 3 tables of different sizes and a window ac and fan. We were very comfortable. The table cloths add a nice touch and my kids loved the butcher paper to color on. Our server brought out extra papers and crayons while we waited on the food. We ordered from the lunch menu. My kids got burgers with soup for a side (chili and chicken tortilla)…those meals were ok. Chili was lacking ingredients. More volume. The chicken Caesar wrap was mostly lettuce. We did have to ask a few times for water to be refilled so attention to that would be good for future visits. Wed return to try it again. Restrooms were clean. And it was a cute restaurant. Prices were kind of high for lunch prices. And I’m unsure if there’s a parking lot. We parked along the street across from the restaurant.

We didn't have reservations, but was luckily able to be seated within a few minutes at an outside table. There is less seating inside, so that would've been about a 30 minute wait. We were especially delighted to meet Guy Sanders, the owner of the building, who took us on a tour of the Tavern, the Speakeasy, and the Cork and Keg wine seller/wine bar while we were there. There are SO many wonderful things to say about the Richter! A quick summary: The building has been lovingly restored with impeccable attention to its original history. The furnishings and overall ambience are extremely authentic; when they couldn't get the original pieces, they found extremely close period pieces or reproductions. The bar in the tavern is reminiscent of the huge bar in Cody, WY, and is indeed genuine. The garage doors on the ceiling of the Cork and Keg and the downstairs hallway are from the building's original incarnation as a garage. The original artwork scattered through the building is superb and well-chosen. The overall vibe is extremely welcoming, with large open areas on every level and staff members who are honestly pleased to be of service. The prices for food and drink are quite reasonable, and the menu is eclectic with something for everyone. We unfortunately were only able to enjoy a glass of regional wine while we were there, but it was delicious and perfectly served. And the best part of all is Guy himself. He is friendly and engaging and a consummate host. He has all the stories of the Richter's history, as well as of the town itself. After 10 minutes of talking with him, we felt like we've known him all our lives! He truly loves the building and the town, and his enthusiasm is infectious. We can't wait to return to the Richter! I’m not against chains but this was the chaniest chain restaurant food I’ve ever had. I’d rather eat at an Applebees. And the price?!?!? If I paid half of what I paid for that meal I’d still be disappointed. Do yourself a favor and find a local restaurant to eat at, that way if it’s bad you’re supporting the local economy and not some soulless strip mall chicken spot that clearly doesn’t give a damn about putting out a quality product. It’s so nice that they are open, many places are closed on Mondays. We were hungry and disappointed that there was no food, apparently there is a food truck in the area but it wasn’t open today. We’re hazy IPA lovers and very much enjoyed the quick clouds beer. Lots of cool swag to buy. Very pricy though, we had 2 beers, a sample flight and a couple of tiny bags of chips and it was almost $50, in hindsight I think they made a mistake. We did completely luck out as they were doing some kind of customer appreciation event and we scored a couple of hot dogs! Yay! The area was very airy and clean, definitely a cool place to hang out.

We got pastor street tacos and the fajita taco plate. We thought our food had good flavor and enjoyed the chips n salsa. I had a ranch water and it wasn’t that good but it’s okay. I was not blown away. The service was very good and the wait staff friendly and prompt. They didn’t have much knowledge of the German dishes. The dining area is really nice both inside and outside. The beers give a nice range of different tastes from light to robust. The wild sausage mix was well presented and had some nice seasoning. Very tasty. We had the schnitzel. The Jaeger sauce had very few mushrooms and was kind of bland. The spaetzle was very good and had a strong garlic flavor, very nice. The red cabbage dish was also delicious. Again the red cabbage portion was rather small. Coffee and deserts were nice. However the Black Forest cake is not made there. Only some of the deserts are made on location. This space is huge and ready to welcome everyone. Bring the kids (there’s an incredible playground just for them) or bring the dogs (they have their own large, fenced in dog park that comes with agility course obstacles so your dog has their own playground!) While we don’t live in Boerne, you could tell this place was a much loved community hang out. They have lots of local beer on tap and great cocktails. We really enjoyed our burgers and wings. Not to mention the amazing staff that are so very attentive. We can’t wait to come back! We visited in winter and they had plenty of heaters that kept us nice and toasty. If you’re coming in the summer though, I saw they had lots of shaded areas. Can’t wait to come back!

Best paella I’ve had in Texas, and the scallop ceviche is out of this world. Service was attentive, friendly, and quick. They did have to swim for their lives though with the encroaching pyroclastic flow of frijoles (see the picture). Definitely enjoyed rolling on El Rio once again for their consistently well prepared meals and comfortable, casual ambiance.
