We arrived without a booking, not realising the place is usually booked well in advance. The view alone is breathtaking, a perfect spring day in Queensland, right on the water. Even though they were full, the team kindly managed to arrange a small table for us. I started with a beautiful Japanese style lager which set the tone perfectly. Then came the crispy battered oyster with ginger caramel and lumaboshi jellyfish, absolutely phenomenal in texture and flavour, easily one of the best oyster experiences I have had. Lunch was the famous Moreton Bay Bug Roll with mayonnaise, sriracha, gem lettuce and a soft brioche bun. They call it a snack, but it is a moment. The balance of flavours is unreal, and now I understand why this dish has such a reputation. The atmosphere, the view, the food, everything was on another level. The service was exceptional. The wait staff were super friendly and even though it was clearly a busy day, they still took the time to chat briefly, explain the dishes and guide us through our choices with genuine passion. This is one of those rare times where five stars just does not feel like enough. If you are visiting the Gold Coast, or like me have lived here for years and somehow have not tried it yet, do yourself a favour. For our mains we had a Norma gluten free gnocchi and all you could taste was garlic as well as it being very dry, the gnocchi wasn’t home made but to be fair we didn’t expect gluten free home made gnocchi. Unfortunately the Pizza was a tremendous let down, the photos on the website show what looks like a Neapolitan style fluffy pizza but what I got was this undercooked pizza which had no flavour whatsoever, it was like a dominos pizza cooked in a wood fired oven. Maybe the other cuisines are good but the pizza and pasta definitely need some improvement.
