We were sat within an appropriate amount of time for walk-in on a beautiful day outside. The service was excellent and everyone was very attentive. (Reservations)! Our server was outstanding. He told us about a computer glitch they were having and apologized ahead of time. I don't think we noticed, as the staff covered everything professionally. I ordered one of the catch of the day items, monkfish. It came with whipped potatoes and the seasonal veggies. The fish was cooked beautifully, as was the rest of the dish. My husband had the Maine scallops. He also said they were cooked nicely. Our only issue was that all the food was so bland. No special sauces or seasonings. I don't like my food very spicy and I never add salt to anything...but tonight I asked for salt to add to this dish. It helped a tiny bit, but wasn't what it needed. For me to think something is bland is very unusual. Being tourist season in town, the place was quite busy and loud. Despite that, the servers were really on the ball.

I got the Oar house special that had an amazing taste to it, but was the smallest portion in the world. Started out fine. Our waitress was cheerful but couldn't remember what table ordered what. I ordered a seafood platter which came out with no shrimp. No mention from staff about missing shrimp. I asked and was told they were out and offered me additional haddock, fine. Fifteen minutes later still nothing, I asked and was told it would be right out. They then brought me 5 shrimp, I was like I thought you were out? The waitress said that's what you wanted right. No idea where they found them but 3 of 5 were completely a different color. We had been there close to two hours at this point, most of this time was waiting for my food. Too many other choices in the area, won't be going back. Note: They were not real busy.

I appreciated them accommodating us for that. The staff overall was great and never tried to rush us in any way. The drinks were a bit overpriced but the drink special was nice. I got a Mai Tai and it tasted pretty strong. I got friend pickles, and onion rings and both were good. The onion rings were thin and delicate in a great tasting way. You can tell they were house made and not some bulk cisco variety. The basket was also loaded so worth the value. We did have to add salt to everything, but them having malt vinegar definitely elevated a lot of the meal as well. The lobster was 2lbs. It was fresh and perfectly cooked. The flesh was still firm without it falling apart completely. The claw and tail was very easy to slide out in one piece. The fries were alright. The onion rings made them seem fairly mediocre. The first few bites were fine, and then yet again, shell is scattered throughout the lobster roll. The wild boar momo was a new flavor profile for me but good, woodsy, deep flavoring. The sauce it comes with really makes it something special. Actually we’re able to get right in on a lunch on Saturday. Our waitress (Pia) was very attentive and friendly. Their prices are marked daily for the chowders and lobster rolls. So you know it’s fresh! I got the house special which is a regular lobster roll with a cup of chowder and chips. They give you the option of butter, mayo or both for the roll. It’s all on the side so you can load however much you want on it. So fresh and tasty! The chowder is a completely different style. Not as creamy as “normal” New England clam chowder. But it has a great flavor. You should definitely try it but just know going in that it is a different style. My wife ordered just a medium chowder and was very happy with her choice. The Franklin is a total gem. $2 Happy hour oysters were limited to the 3 of their 9 available oyster options from the raw bar.
