With the above aside, I couldn't fault the service! From the bar, to the table, service was brilliant. After raising the seating issue, we was complimented with free bottles of wine to compensate. All an all. I wouldn't return or recommend. You'd think a wedding party of 20 would have been swiped off their feet, unfortunately not.

We were a table of 7 there for a birthday and the staff couldn't do enough for us. We actually go to this branch quite a lot and even decided to bring some friends this time because it’s usually such a good experience. At first everything was great- the waitress who sat us down was really smiley (I think her name started with an S) the food came out quick, and my pork ramen was as perfect as always, honestly, the chefs here are super consistent every single time. The problem came halfway through the meal. The restaurant had started to empty out, and while we were still finishing our mains, the manager came over and literally grabbed the sauces and cutlery basket off our table without saying anything. I thought it was odd, so I asked another staff member what time they closed -she said 11. At that point, it was barely 9 p.m. So I asked the manager if we could have the sauces and cutlery back since we weren’t finished, and he just shrugged and said he was “done with them for the night” and made a sarcastic joke about shutting early. Bear in mind we still had food in front of us. Then, while standing by the kitchen (right next to our table), he turned to a chef and said something along the lines of "I cant wait for these people to leave already" it felt like he wanted us to hear, we were shocked. It completely killed the mood. Before wed even finished, the music shut off and he came back and just dropped the bill on the table without clearing our plates and asked bluntly "cash or card?" On our way out we asked the barman for this person's name and I think it was Ayden- I get it, I’ve worked in service and yes, everyone wants to get home on time. But this wasn’t just trying to wrap up the night- it was rude, dismissive, and honestly embarrassing, especially since we’d brought friends along and it was 2 hours before they closed. We felt extremly uncomfortable and unwelcome and just wanted to get out of there- the chefs and other staff were great, but that managers attitude completely ruined what should have been a nice evening.

The food is that good. EVERYTHING tastes amazing. We had the chicken livers, prawns and scallops to start, which were well seasoned and beautifully presented. The scallops were garnished with samphire and pistachio nuts, which was a surprisingly amazing touch and added so much flavour. The best scallops I've ever tasted. For Mains, we both enjoyed the cod...on a bed of well-seasoned mash and lobster sauce. Again, it was beautifully presented and tasted out of this world. The service was IMPECCABLE. We had a new starter waitress, who was on her first evening, and she was so attentive and friendly. The manager is amazing too. He beams pride in his restaurant and is so friendly and welcoming. All the staff just seem to enjoy their jobs and were all just as accommodating. This is now my absolute favourite restaurant. They're going to get sick of seeing my face, I'm going to be there so often!!

We received a warm welcome and were shown to our table the old wood beamed interior. As it was a Sunday we chose the roast but started with a baked camembert. There really wasn't enough bread to dip but they happily supplied more when I asked. The roast lamb and chicken meals were tasty and served nice and hot with a good selection of vegetables. Personally I would have liked my potatoes a little more crispy but my wife was happy with them. After a little break we had dessert. Etom Mess sundae which was a little lacking on the meringue front and a hit Cherry sundae with cherry brandy which was very tasty indeed. The staff were very pleasant and checked back to see if our food was ok and it was easy to attract someone's attention to get another drink etc. Our two courses each,shared starter and two non alcoholic drinks came to £76 which included an added on service charge. The fact the card reader asks you to tip when you have to queue to order when downstairs is silly, surely if it was table service you’d tip then. Edit: I returned today and spent 25 pounds on Ribs, Chips and Sweetcorn, my Chips were cold and the meal was tiny! I wasn’t impressed at all and it was no way worthy of that price! My Son had Fish & Chips and his Chips were cold too and he said his Fish was soggy! The food doesn’t seem anywhere near the quality that it used to be here. Lastly there was no Salt available! The ones on the premises were being used by other customers. Wasn’t impressed! It was sunday, so decided to order a roast. It didnt look impressive, and my roast potatoes were tepid, at best. Their condiments are terrible. The mayo is like lighter than light mayo and bbq sauce didnt even taste bbq. We were greeted at the door, and didn't have long to wait to be seated. Our host/server was pleasant, and he was great with my little boy. This is where the positives end. As this is a menu upgrade this should have been executed much better. The starter - was actually ok, nothing to commend, apart from this at least had flavour. On the whole a massively disheartening experience, only marginally made bearable thanks to some friendly service. Front of House team for the win, back of house staff need to brush up on service standards and basic culinary skills. A well cooked roast is a thing of beauty. This fell so short of the mark. However the chicken, roasties & yorkie were quite dry to be honest. The rice biriyani was awful, soggy and not very tasty. Overpriced menu. The service was the worse part, because we after finishing eating we were offered desserts but we didn’t wanted, so we say no thanks and pay the bill, but we wanted to stay a bit more in the restaurant to enjoy our friends company and finish our drinks, but to our surprise the waiter approached us and said that the table we were seating us was booked for other customers arriving later on and that we had 15 minutes to vacate the table. It deserves the awards it's won. After looking online for a nice Thai restaurant I found that a lot of websites highly recommended Thai palace, so took a look at their website and menu and found that the food they had was what I was looking for at reasonable prices. I was able to book a table via their website which was great and good thing too as they are very popular so booking in advance is a must. We went there and didn't have to wait at all being greeted by a waitress and directed to our table. One thing I like about the service was that they didn't straight away all about ordering any drinks, but have is some time to sit and relax, and peruse the menu first (a lot of places straight away ask you what drink you want before you've fully sat down which is not a good experience). After taking our orders the food tasted very fresh and delicious, with the time between starter and main course being well placed. One extra thing I thought was very good was the drinks menu going off what was set. As I was driving so didn't want any alcohol they made me a mocktail to go with the cocktail my wife ordered even though there wasn't any provision for it on their menu. I thought that was a nice touch. I had the tempura prawns for starter, my wife having the vegetable option, which was delicious. The main I had a beef green curry with coconut rice which was equally as tasty, my wife having fried fish with vegetables which was also tasty. One thing which amazed me was how the food stayed hot for the duration of the meal and when initially presented. Not sure how they manage this, but even when I was having the last bite it was equally as hot as the start. This was amazing and great as it keeps the food very tasty with a lot of restaurants not having food at that temperature at the beginning of the meal nor last that long. 5/5 for presentation and taste and they are well deserving of the status. I will definitely go back as I want to try another main on their menu which was the seafood. They also deliver, but I don't think I'd take up that option as seated dining was great.

Went in for an evening meal after a long day out walking and weren't disappointed. I recommend booking in advance of an evening though, we got lucky as there was a lull just before the rush but it does get busy. We were seated promptly at a table for two and were immediately asked if we would like a drink. The server was incredibly attentive. The menu itself is very extensive, boasting set meals as well as a la carte. We opted for Set Menu B for 2 with a few extras on the side. The menu also boasts quite a lot of dim sum options, of which we had soup dumplings. They could've been a little more soupy for my liking but were pleasant. Our other starters were salt and pepper squid and salt and pepper ribs; both delicious. The beginning of out set menu also arrived at this time, a selection of hors d'oeuvres including, crispy wontons, satay chicken, butterfly king prawn, smoked chicken, seaweed and dry ribs. The wontons were the only disappointing item; little to no "stuffing". This appetiser platter was shortly followed by a quarter roast duck with the trimmings, pulled tableside. Delicious! After this our portions of egg fried rice, chicken, prawns and beef were delivered. All quite tasty though a little under seasoned aside from the beef in my opinion. We did have to wait for a good while for the bill unfortunately, though only a minor inconvenience. Overall a nice experience. Weve had a variety of what's on the menu over the years from cod and rock to battered sausage and chips, also tried some of their sides mushy peas, and curry sauces are excellent and in good size pots and never any problems. The children's meals are brilliant and again a great variety to choose from, there's about 5 or 6 options including the usual fish, burger and nuggets with chips. All at a reasonable price. You can taste that the oil used for cooking is changed frequently unlike some chip shops. The staff are lovely and so friendly. Always helpful too. They have a 5* hygiene rating certificate which hangs up on the wall which is always good to see and not seen often enough in food establishments either so this place really does go the extra mile for the customer. It's always clean and tidy. You can ring your order ahead and then come down to collect it if you want to as well. Usually love going to this pub, there’s loads of choice for drinks and staff are great. We visited recently though and the mains menu is now literally a choice of 2 burgers. There’s not even a veggie burger option and when they came out the quality was appalling. At least if there’s so few options you would hope they were good quality. I had the beef burger and it tasted so cheap and just had a cheese slice and really wilted lettuce in it. My husband had the chicken burger and that was no better put together. They both came with a tiny handful of chips, so we ended up ordering some of the loaded fries after, as we were still hungry. These were even worse. It was a soup bowl full of salad dressing with chips and a cut up chicken burger soaking in there. The cheese was just the cheese slices from the burgers and hot sauce on top. Popped in Saturday lunchtime for a spot of lunch and enjoy a beer in the sun. The outside sitting area has plenty of room/tables to enjoy the outside. The beer choices were good. We had the Blue moon pale ale 👌🏻. We ordered freshly cooked pizzas and a basket of chips. The food was absolutely delicious and made our visit the cheery on top. Spoke to the chef at the serving hatch as well who was a lovely friendly guy who told us about himself and his great new menu he wants to get into the pub. We will definitely be returning soon for great beer and more amazing lunch food. Well done to all the team at Drakes 👌🏻🍻☀️💯

The staff have kept me waiting every visit and made mistakes on my order yet a 10% service charge is added to the bill by default giving you the job of negotiating your money back for their poor service. As for prices this place charges top prices eg 6.50 for a dessert this is not drop in casual dining with a cup of tea price. There are other decent choices around for half that price. They don't do an extensive choice of tea either like red bush, Kenya, assam, lapsong it's just the usual few teas. Why is this place charging up-market prices for regular cafe choice? They seem to have spent a lot on the appearence of the place and have set prices to recover the consequential overhead but it's crammed-in tables like a cheaper alternative anyway. If I want to pay these high prices I can get better dining with more choice of foods in a better environment with better service. If I want just a quick tea and a treat I can get it half price elsewhere. So I give this place a miss!
