I joined in for their fixed 3-course lunch menu for approximately £45, which included an amouse bouche to start and petit fours to end. Service was friendly and relaxed. Being alcohol intolerant, I especially loved that they have a dedicated non-alcoholic drinks selection. For the amouse bouche, the cauliflower gazpacho was cold and fresh; perfect for the warmer weather. The beetroot dish, meanwhile, was nothing too exciting. I then had their pork with asian bbq sauce as a starter. The beefy aroma was incredible. The pork was super tender and fatty. I loved the sauce which was full-bodied, yet light enough that the flavours did not linger for too long. The pork crackling on top also added a nice onion flavour. An excellent dish. Next, for mains, I had their calves liver for an additional £3. This one had a mushroomy aroma that was even stronger than the last dish. Flavour-wise, I found it quite interesting. The liver was very rare on the inside, which meant it was on the tougher, chewier side. Being liver, it also had a strong gamey flavour. The rest of the dish - the parmesan polenta, chantrelles, and sauces - were quite heavy on the salt and did help to counter this. That being said, I definitely had enough of the flavours by the time I was finished. Lastly, I was recommended the strawberry dessert. Although the strawberry cream was a bit grainy, everything worked very well together. The strawberry was sweet but not tart, the biscuit held its crunch throughout, and the mint in the strawberry sorbet gave the dish a bit of a lift. The petit fours were great too: soft, chewy, light but flavourful. Overall, I had a great lunch, and I would be happy to come back again to try out more of their dishes!

Their 10 oz sirloin steak was £38 and only came with 1 mushroom, 4 baby tomatoes and a small pot of peppercorn sauce and sorry I forgot one onion ring! To add a portion of tender stem broccoli and some chips to this was yet another £14. By the time you add a service charge, this brings your total for just one course to nearly £60! I appreciate that you have to pay for quality but I couldn't help but be left feeling that this was a hard to justify over extravagance, which detracted some of the joy away from the actual meal, especially as I had an equally good steak at the Tickell Arms in Whittlesford recently with all the trimmings for less than half this cost. By the time we added two glasses of wine to this, another £28, we were left having to share an extremely delicious chocolate mousse with raspberry sorbet between us, another £12, to avoid bankruptcy proceedings being instigated. Despite questioning the cost with the waiter I was merely told that I could always choose something else from the menu if I so wished. Perhaps I am now dining at establishments above my station in life. The restaurant was very quiet when we arrived which was perfect because we didn't book our table in advance. The seating and decor where perfectly adequate for a family run restaurant, facilities were very clean and we were quite comfortable. We were swiftly seen to our table by a very conscientious waiter who was both courteous and polite. We were offered the £14.99 lunch option which allows one to pick any mains from the menu for the above price, we had a rather small starter of hummus before the mains arrived. The selection of kofte and mixed grill with salad and cracked wheat were delicious, perfectly seasoned and freshly made, well worth recommending, followed by delicious coffee and a dessert of baklava (which was again a bit on a small side of 3 tiny pieces for the price of almost £9). We had couple of beers and a soft drink and were offered a complementary amaretto by a lovely waitress after we paid up our bill. In summary it was a very pleasant lunch/dinner and we are looking forward to our second visit sometime soon.

We weren’t disappointed. Having eaten here last summer we knew about the small plate format and set about to choose three dishes each. For main we had the lamb cutlets which were good, though the fat could have been rendered off a but better. The chicken dish was also good, tasty enough, just needed more sauce. These were accompanied by the posh hash browns with truffle cream, and the roasted cauliflower. The hash browns were a little oily and the cauliflower alas was the least enjoyable dish, it just wasn’t popping with flavour at all and was undercooked despite charred edges. The other two dishes were garlic mushrooms and the white crab. We’d had these before and they were delicious first time but this time they we ok. Again not enough seasoning so they simply weren’t popping with flavour. I had to ask for a salt mill to adjust the seasoning on a few of the dishes. All that aside, the atmosphere was lovely as was the service which was very friendly indeed.

Unlike tapas offered as small plates in other restaurants, the dishes have a range of influences and surprisingly hearty quantities. Extremely attentive without being intrusive, and also very polite and friendly. The restaurant is quite small and busy but well laid out which made for a vibrant atmosphere. We were recommended 3 plates each, so we ordered those and shared them all. Plates come out when it's ready which is a way of dining I really enjoy. Every plate we had was delicious! My particular favourites were the hash browns and pork ribs, which seems to be a very popular choice. I'm confident I would've enjoyed everything on the menu. The bill for the 2 of us including service charge and drinks (2 beers and soft drink) came to just under £80 which I thought was good value considering how full and satisfied we felt. We'll definitely be back and would recommend it to friends.

The decor of the restaurant is very pleasing, draped in pastel flowers with tables and intimate booths alike to choose from. The tom kha soup was good (maybe not the best I've ever had, but perfectly acceptable nonetheless) all round was then followed by mains of panang salmon (rich and delicious), rising star duck and Samui Seafood.... all great and bursting with flavour. I was over from abroad visiting, and a dear friend took me to 1921. We had the simple lunch menu and it was just superb, and art on the plate. My thanks to a very dedicated and fine chef. Their dog- an extremely large and excitable one- was off the lead, running in and out of the pub while the owners were sitting outside. I was just looking for a gentle nightcap after a delightful dinner and walked in to this incredibly friendly and welcoming group of people eager to talk to anyone who came through the door. I was stuck 2 hours from home broken down on my motorcycle and found myself in the car park to this pub. After my phone died I accepted my fate was a night in the car park! They allowed me to use a phone to contact a relative to arrange picking up and even welcomed me to sit inside for a couple hours and even gave me an option of a complimentary hot drink. We have visited a few of the big breweries and been on their tours as well but we both agreed the Two Cannon tour was one of the best we have been on. The guide/brewer, sorry forgotten her name, was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about her role. She was excellent at explaining the whole brewing process from start to finish. The end of the tour was spent in the pub cellar where we sampled most of the ales that were on sale in the bar upstairs. If your spending time in Bury St Edmunds and appreciate a good pint then you need to visit the Two Cannons, I’d also recommend you get yourself booked onto one of their tours.

However the wait for our starters was 30-45 minutes long which I’m assuming was due to the kitchen being so backed up. We watched our server have to deal with all the tables surrounding us by herself, while the second server was nowhere to be seen and if so it would only be for short periods of time before disappearing again. The food itself was hot and lovely and was handed to us as soon as it was ready but watching a single women deal with a whole restaurant was quite disheartening and upsetting to watch. She remained pleasant and apologetic throughout the whole service which we saluted her for. We also had discounts due to us having the pizza express app however the discounts were not automatically taken off our bill so our server on top of dealing with a whole restaurant had to sit and manually remove money from our bill aswell.

The most watery curries we’ve ever had. Prawns were like shrimps, there were 10 tiny pieces of chicken in chicken curry, Onion bhajis were very dry. Both bhajis and samosas cold. Best indian dining out I've had for a while. Staff are very welcoming and attentive and polite. Nice place to sit in, great background hum of others having a great time. The food, top notch level of flavours, really expertly done, could taste every spice and herb, the spicy heat took nothing away. You can eat the chicken and lamp with no worries because it is trimmed perfectly, no fatty bits. The mushroom side was addictive and nicely fresh naan bread. Great price as well, very good sized portions. Will happily return to try more off the menu. Thank you all involved, you are masters at the pans!
