The food from chef Phil Thompson and his team was fabulous and we were well looked after by our superb waitress Nicole. It had been a few years since our last visit but this more than made up for it. The restaurant is located at the top of Hatfield Road at the end of the high street. We arrived to a friendly welcome from Nicole before she escorted us to our table. We ordered a drink while we looked at the menu. Here you had the choice of A la Carte or a selection of tasting menu’s (ie the 5 , 7 or 9 course with an addition of a special dish from the chef. We opted for the seven course plus the chef’s choice dish. The afternoon started with a couple of delicious snacks that came along with the sourdough bread and butter. We then moved onto our first course of Heirloom Tomatoes which brought a delightful freshness to your palate. This was followed by the Maitake Mushroom , the Birds Liver Parfait and the chef’s choice which was a heavenly Squid ink Tortellini. We followed this with the Roast Noisette of Cod before moving onto our first to the main course where you had an option of either the Lamb or the Tamworth Pork so we ordered one of each and the were both fantastic. Our palate was the cleansed with a Pineapple Sorbet before finishing with a delicious White Chocolate Parfait dessert. While enjoying a coffee and petit fours we had a nice chat with Phil where we could personally thank him and his team for a fabulous afternoon. We also payed credit to Nicole who was a delight all afternoon and a credit to the industry. We then thanked the team as we headed back home to Essex and hope we would see them all again soon.

Maybe it is because we were starving and cold, never mind, it is what it is. We were lucky to get a table, as I have read other reviews, where some say you need to book in advance as it gets busy and this restaurant is not the biggest compared to others, but this is what gives it its charm and homely feeling. Also, I love the fact that the background music wasn't blaring at top volume (which I have experienced at certain establishments), so we could converse across the table without the need to shout. As someone who comes from southern Africa, I did enjoy the decor and cultural influences it is inspired by. More reason why we felt at home and on top of that, there was no time limit set on, so we ate at a very leisurely pace, enjoying every bite, smell, and taste. Divine! I think we must have been there for about 2 hours, and at no stage did we feel rushed. I noticed some of the other customers were also very comfortable, eating and chatting away. The food was piping hot when it arrived. Service was superb and fast. The waiting staff were friendly and attentive. Smiles all around. Made us feel right at home. I would say, if you order a tagine, be prepared to wait a little for the food to cool down before woofing it down...don't want you to burn your mouth and tongue. I don't like cold food, but this was a bit too hot (warm). Luckily, we had starters, so it didn't bother us to wait another little longer before tucking in. We had the lamb tagine off the set menu. This included a few options both for the main meal and the starters. I had the falafel and salad. My partner had the calamari. I cannot fault our tagines, wow, just wow. The lamb was cooked just right, tender, and flavourful. The carrots and peas and the potatoes. One of the best tagines I've ever had. We managed to finish it, but barely. Very filling for the price. You can choose rice, couscous, or chips to go with tagine. I had the couscous, and my wife had the rice. The 2 course set menu is great value for money. There are so many great choices to choose from on the normal menu. We definitely would come back and try other options. My son had the chicken wrap with a side salad and an extra portion of fries. He can be very picky with food, but his only complaint was that the wrap was huge and there was too much chicken in it. We both ended our meals with a warm beverage, I had peppermint tea, and my wife chose the mint option...not sure the exact difference. Both were refreshing and just what the Dr ordered. Definitely would recommend this restaurant if you ever feel the urge to have some wholesome food in a great atmosphere with very nice serving staff. Well worth it. Please note they do add a service charge to your bill. It's about 10%. I always tip when we eat out and give about 10%, so no harm done, but I do get slightly annoyed when restaurants do this and take my choice away. Seems to be the thing that most establishments do, I wish they wouldn't. Me and friend were looking for a decent burger for dinner, found Craft and Cleaver online, and after looking at the photos went to try it out. We we surprised to see it was busy on a Wednesday night during the Easter break but after sitting down and seeing the menu, we realised it was a proper American style BBQ joint! No wonder it was busy. The server was really friendly and recommended the Texas Tray and we were not disappointed at all. The food was absolutely magnificent and I’m glad I had this rather than a burger. It was some of the best meat I’d ever eaten! It was so tender having been in the smoker for 8+ hours, and the beef just fell off the bone. It was so good and we couldn’t finish it all. I would 100 percent recommend this place especially if you’ve never tried American BBQ before. Fantastic food, friendly staff, and a great atmosphere.

My only regret was being too full to taste some other dishes on the menu. I will rectify that in my next visit as there's sure to be one. The food was good, we ordered steaks and it was done as how we liked it, fish and a set menu. Mash really taste good. Atmosphere, by itself, interior is really good (and the choice of soft music). The service was superb! 1st we have amended our booking and they were very accommodating, food wait is not too long, waiter was polite and very professional, plus we made a request on the booking and they accommodated it (plus more extras) Not sure if the extra is part of the promotion for graduation season but it really made our celebration special.

She’s a big fan of the lasagna and tiramisu(gotten them both times she been). The place was full so we sat outside but there was overhead coverage, heating and blankets. I got the La Cosa Nostra pizza and enjoyed it. I would’ve liked more flavour to it but that’s my personal taste. The tiramisu was very light and and fluffy. The portion sizes were good and we didn’t wait too long for our food. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is cosy. I’d definitely like to go again to try some pasta dishes and other desserts.

On arrival I was promptly and warmly greeted and welcomed before being escorted to my table and in no time at all given a menu and asked what I would like to drink.
