Immediately I was struck by the cool interior. The inside is decked out in a tropical theme, and the whole place is lit by cool colors. They also had smooth jazz playing in the background, which was very pleasant to listen to. I provided pictures of their cool bar and a fancy table for examples. They really hit the atmosphere out of the park. I wasn’t super hungry, so I ordered an appetizer. I ordered the crunchy spicy chicken wings for around 10 dollars. The staff was overwhelmed and service quite slow. On one hand Yee Assoc of DC entertainment for Chinese New Year was quite interesting. Came in for lunch at 12noon on a Saturday. There were carts coming around so we jumped in immediately and ordered 2 plates of different buns. Both were cold so we decided to save them for home. Other dishes we ordered including radish cake and various fried items were also room temperature at best. Dim sum isn't normally piping hot but some dishes just don't taste right when they aren't warm. Steamed shrimp dumplings were huge, and we discovered why when we bit in -- they are full of filler and not shrimp. It ended up being a mushy mess. I couldn't finish it. We had to order off the regular menu to get hot foods. I saw one table send food back because it was cold and then the cart ladies argued with the customers! They said it was fresh out of the fryer and the customer said if it's fresh why is it cold? They kept arguing and the guy maintained his argument. There was no server around and we had to hunt down people to ask for water and tea. Later I helped myself to carryout boxes. Again had to look for someone to pay the bill. The last time I was here was around New Year and we came at 11am and it was better. Now I have left and I feel sick to my stomach. What a shame...this place was a staple from my childhood days with decent prices for large portions for dinner, and a bustling dim sum on the weekends. The Jin dui was almost pure mochi and had little, if any bean paste. They were also the smallest Jin Dui I've yet seen without being micro Jin Dui. We ordered the all you can eat sushi which is basically your choice of anything you want from a specific menu. The menu had plenty of options from appetizers, soups, sashimi, 'basic' sushi rolls as well as specialty rolls. This was our go to place. The food was fantastic and their key lime pie was to die for! Then they lost their lease (the building was later demolished to make way for the modern high rises in what is now called North Bethesda). The restaurant disappeared for a while. Their chef was hired by Yuan Fu and being the only faux meat vegetarian restaurant, Yuan Fu became hugely popular and successful. In the meantime, Vegetable Garden, after a hiatus of several years, reopened in Silver Spring. We went to check it out at the time and were very disappointed with everything- the food, ambience, service etc. So did not go there for several years. Now, on the recommendation of friends, we decided to try the place out again. The place has a very soothing ambience and there are a couple of monitors running interesting pieces about the benefits of vegetarianism (no surprise there). The place was obviously understaffed. There was only one waitress for the entire restaurant and she was doing her best being polite, answering questions about the dishes, taking orders, serving and then cleaning up. So we had to wait a while, both for service and the food. Could not really complain to her because she was doing an outstanding job but really could have had more help for a Friday lunch. The food was mixed. The vegetable roll was excellent. The hot pot tofu was good but very few veggies. The sesame chicken was okay-okay but the potions really small. The tofu curry really bland and unappetizing. So all in all a mixed bag. Still, their menu was several pages long and looks like they are innovative, especially with mushroom, in coming up with faux meat dishes. Definitely with checking out.

The GT Tofu went in the trash... couldn't even manage the broccoli. It seemed old and, once again, no flavor what so ever. I've never experienced that before from any asian theme carry-out/restaurant. GT chicken was my go-to before becoming vegan, so I've been eating the dish my whole life basically.... I was most disappointed in that. The soup was only tofu and mushrooms and mad salty... like toooo salty. I ended up having to mix it with the brown rice to stomach it, but even then, I was chugging water constantly (and who wants to do that when you're sick...) I'm going to give them another shot. I review a lot of places, and I typically do 3 visits before I wrote a place off completely. I'm really hoping that trying some other dishes can change this review. 3 stars because the location is convenient, the staff is "friendly" and they give a discount if you use cash.
