The breading was nearly petrified, and what should’ve been succulent pieces of tofu were severely dehydrated from being overcooked. I can only guess that the chef used a deep fryer for too long rather than cook the tofu in a wok. In the attached photos, you can see the dinner listed (and I might add at an immodest price for the portion served). The other photo shows a representative piece of overcooked tofu. I guess if you want Chinese cuisine, it makes more sense to visit a restaurant which has bona fide Chinese chefs that will not mutilate food the way that P.F. Chang’s did tonight. After this experience, it would be impossible for me to consider returning, and I certainly would warn others to either have very low expectations or change their dining venue.

This is the worst Chinese food we’ve had in a long time. The crabragoons are Super fishy tasting. Egg rolls are over cooked resulting in being too dry to eat. General chicken had good flavor but the chicken was so rubbery you couldn’t hardly chew it. My wife’s chicken noodle dish had what I’m assuming was chicken but did not taste or resemble chicken in any way who knows what it was. Kids has sweet and sour but again the chicken was so rubbery you couldn’t chew it. The City water is disgusting. I don’t know how this place has this good of reviews unless management has changed and it’s went down hill or Alabama doesn’t know what good Chinese food is but it was the biggest waste of 100 dollars I think I have ever spent. About the only thing going for it was the tables weren’t sticky like every other Chinese food place. Steer clear my friends. McDonald’s would have been 5 star compared to what we got served last night.

The last time I dined in, I tried the Hunan Combination, which has shrimp, chicken and pork in a sweet and spicy sauce. Think of General Tso’s but with a lighter, brighter sauce and you get the idea. It was good, but not very spicy at all, and there were only a few shrimp in the entire dish. Everything was super tender, at least. My dining companions picked their usual favorites: Lemon Chicken and Mongolian Beef. The Lemon Chicken is almost like a citrus candy it’s so sweet, and the breaded and fried chicken is tender, but with a crunchy crust. The Mongolian beef is a real standout thanks to the thin, crispy slices of beef. There’s a deep umami flavor at work here that compliments the tang of the green onions. Sweet tea is always good and sweet and strong, too, which is nice. The servers might seem to be kind of aloof or even rude at first, but they open up quickly and are good with suggestions and advice. Drinks are quickly refilled and the overall dinner pace is usually on the slow side of efficient but good enough. After all these years, it remains my single favorite Chinese restaurant anywhere in the state of Alabama. The quality of the food, the flavor and the great prices charged are just an unbeatable combination, even if it is old and showing its age, and out of touch with the hipster diner ethic of today. I looked up over 20 places, & I didn't see what I wanted on the menu I'm so thankful I called in and asked if they have Tofu & they did! I made my own Tofu with broccoli, & fried rice with only egg/onion. They have the best prices affordable prices in Hoover! This will be my only to go spot for Chinese food. It's well worth the drive in a very beautiful neighborhood to the plaza. One of my favorite things is the crispy noodles 🤤 they make there's fresh next time I'm getting 10 bags because one wasn't enough. I ended up going with the black pepper chicken that doesnt have that much sugar and she was very sweet at taking my order but didn't mention that it would be spicy. It was soo spicy to where it was already burning my stomach with a couple of bites. I have bad heartburn and can't eat spicy. The black pepper chicken I usually get at the Chinese buffets are not spicy at all and do not have half as much pepper. The chicken was not like chicken at all. It was almost a rubbery feeling and seemed like it wasn't cooked well. I took it back in to ask them to remake something better....the husband starts screaming in the back which made me feel uncomfortable right away. I told the wife (which was so sweet) that I apologize but I had no idea it was that spicy and that I couldn't eat food like that due to my stomach problems. She mentioned that she could remake my order and make it with just brown sauce and that it wouldn't be spicy. I asked her not to put too much chicken this time because I didn't like it. I then asked to cook the broccoli and cabbage soft and well done. She took my plate back and not even 5 minutes later she brought it out and it had tons of meat still and the cabbage and broccoli was hard as a rock. I can't eat hard broccoli like that and cabbage. I like my food well cooked. $36 down the drain and im starving still headed back to work.😔 If you get food here make sure you communicate with them well and make sure they cook your food all the way done!
