We were eager to try the best places in Margate, and we ended this culinary day trip with a bang! This place is magnificent, the food is incredibly fresh and expertly prepared, cooked to perfection, plus all of it is done in a quirky, cool, very tasty way! Let me explain: the “ridiculous Bloody Mary “ is not just a cocktail, it is a starter, and a big one too! It has a prawn, bacon, a big olive, and more ! Such a warm, nice device is very rare to find, especially when the place is heaving with people. The whole experience was very special, the food is delicious, we were extremely happy. A really lovely restaurant, even on a Monday evening, the atmosphere was fantastic and the staff were all friendly & warm. Most importantly, everything we ordered was available. The fish (Haddock) was fresh, battered was thin and crispy. Scampi was equally great. Very generous portions. Great price. They also do a Lite bite Cod and chips portion for £5.95! Really great value. Chips were crispy and not like some chippy who used the oil for too long or soggy chips. Mushy peas was really good too… creamy and not too salty. Service was good and polite. This is the chippy that partnered with Fortnam in the summer and known as Fortnam-on-sea. So there is certain standard. They also sell Fortnam labeled water. Then we sat by the sea on outdoor tables. Firstly booking is essential. The establishment is small and they rarely have room for walk-ins. You also can't be too early if you have a reservation. Menu to the point but you need to be a seafood lover otherwise it's not the restaurant for you. Service was great. Ready to answer questions and generally helpful. There's no kids menu but they offer white fish, potatoes and greens...at least on the day we visited. Menu is seasonal and daily. Starters are better £10-12, mains from £20 and desserts from £10. We went all out so our bill was rather hefty. So be prepared.They did add service charge and a donation to their charity of choice which I would say added £30 between these two items. The dishes themselves were absolutely delicious. From starters to desserts there's nothing we could fault with anything. We are a family that drinks mainly water so most of the cost was food. I would highly recommend for at least one visit or for a special occasion or if you just have more money to splurge than we do. You certainly won't be disappointed. My children said we could make it an annual event 😂. So go and enjoy yourself even if your pockets will be a little lighter!

We were in a private room at the end of the restaurant, which was perfect with our dog. The young waitress gave us menus and was back shortly after to take the order, as when we arrived there was no one else in the restaurant. Went for the anti-pasta style entree served on a small side plate, which was tasty and shared with the my wife. She enjoyed the pumpkin on plate. Order two plates of pasta, again fairly tasty and a wine for the entree and wine for the main course. Tiramisu for dessert. Overall, the food was to a high standard and the service good. The bill was £90 for dinner. Which wasn’t too bad compared to what it would cost in London….. The restaurant is in the old market area so good location and has a sister restaurant a couple of doors up which is a wine bar style place. Which would be good to try next time we were down in Margate.

I love that they incorporate local producers where possible in the food they serve, it’s a nice little nod to the restaurant’s British home. This meal was a few months ago and I forgot to leave my review however, I highly recommend it and still think regularly about the torta caprese (chocolate cake) with sour cherries and crème fraîche. It was fabulous. Out of the two pastas we ordered, the slow cooked pork sausage ragu was our favourite. It was super meaty and unctuous. Did I mention that the pasta is homemade and they use grains grown in Kent?! Lovely stuff. I’m going back again soon and cannot wait!

My wife, and all her family, always loves Secret Spices food and excitedly ordered a takeaway this evening through Just Eat. She quickly ran out to the delivery driver to say it was the wrong order. He seemed polite, understanding and took it away to sort it out. After a while, still no delivery. I have severe anxiety and find phoning hard but I was determined to try and resolve this. I was told the Secret Spices that she was now crying and I had seen her run out to the driver and give him the food. She was telling the truth and we saw him drive it away. What I found really sad was that man at Secret Spices wasn’t even prepared or willing to listen to me or show any empathy, understanding or apology to my wife. All I was told was that once the food leaves the premises then it’s not their responsibility, it’s the Just Eat company. My wife had to contact them. Now someone isn’t telling the truth, either the Just Eat delivery man or the Secret Spices man. I also tried to tell the Secret Spices man that if it was the delivery man not telling the truth then I was also trying to warn him to not let this delivery driver back in his premises as he will get more people phoning and wanting to know where there food is. It does saddens me to write this but please be aware, if you do buy Secret Spices takeaway food and your delivery, through Just Eat, for whatever reason is wrong and they say they will take it back and sort it, that’s it you won’t see your food or money again. My wife now has no treat, is crying as she feels she’s been made out to be a liar and has lost her money. Shes a well respected local teacher, not some scammer.

Upon each visit, the restaurant has not been particularly busy - perhaps this is helped by me visiting during the week, rather than on the busier days such as Fridays and Saturdays. The food however has always been absolutely top notch. We ordered our food and drinks and enjoyed the atmosphere whilst catching up with one another. Our food was brought out by a lovely young lady who was very kind I cut into my stake and mine was medium rare. My partner cuts into his and it was well done. My partner heads up with our meals mentioning that my stake wasn't cooked properly and his was over cooked. Had we not had ordered different sized stakes we would have just swapped them. The lady who he complained to was very rude rolled her eyes at him and took the plates. Saying there was nothing wrong with our stakes. He insisted they took them back. They appeared to have thrown my stake back on the grill and it was burnt on one side but not on the other which I can accept having to have it well done what I cannot accept is the fact they then didn't change the plates so their was still blood on the plate on from where mine was undercooked previously meaning they hadn't even changed or cleaned up the plate. With myself being pregnant I do not appricate the risk posed by having the blood from the medium stake still on my plate yet I'm starving so I eat anyways. My son had a kids meal which came out in a tiny portion but I cannot complain seeing as his meal cost us only a pound.. overall we had a disappointing experience which left us feeling like we were shamed for the meal we had paid for and wanting what we had paid for.

Firstly ordering at the bar, I was interrupted by a member of staff asking the lady behind the till mid conversation with me, to switch till after our order due to the carvery queue, completely throwing me off on where we were with our order, as someone who works in customer service I found it very rude and it could of waited, a polite ask of the people in the queue behind us to wait at another till and then speaking to the member of staff when we were done would have worked without the need to interrupt a customer mid order... Then we had a wrong starter sent out with the kids meal when I asked the member of staff I was told that we had ordered it when we hadn't, followed by mains - another kids meal error missing peas that were requested as a side. Guy in light blue shirt and trousers, I'm assuming management, aimlessly walking around looking at tables every so often but not actually making eye contact with people or coming over to see if everything was OK. I had actually put my hand up and waved at a female member of staff who turned and walked the other way. I gave up in the end.. spent more time trying to get staffs attention than actually eating, let alone enjoying the food that was served like you should when you eat out. Seemed like a few tables were also waiting around for someone to come and either clear their plates or bring next courses. Childrens mac and cheese was runny, my child didn't like it but ate it because he was so hungry, chips were oozing with oil. Finally managed to speak to a member of staff, asked for her to take the 'buttermilk' chicken away because I couldn't even get a knife through it, she asked if I wanted it to be replaced. The quality of the food that has already come out was terrible, I wasn't hopeful I'd get anything better, so declined and asked for kids puddings so that we could leave. Staff member came back explaining the chef had agreed to refund the chicken before I leave if I head to the bar and apologised. Kids menu states warm brownie so my daughter was upset it was cold. Really was a terrible experience which is such a shame as we don't get to eat out often and were looking forward to a treat.. definitely won't be returning

Haven't visited in a few years as a previously awful experience put us off but had been told had improved. On arrival was seated and was ridiculously hot though air conditioning came on later which was much better. Service is at the bar. I had a voucher for a free 2 course festive menu which the til wouldn't accept but the manager put it through, would have been £11.99. Kids 3 course meals at £4.99 very reasonable with lots of choice and large portions. Drinks fruit shoot £1.70 and large white wine was £4, very reasonable. Had the festive carvery, self serve as sunday choice of Turkey, beef or pork. All delicious. Kids meals were large, my twins only 3 and they couldn't finish it so be enough for older children easily. We were a little disappointed that the play area was £3.50 now as previously free, we did pay it but seems a little steep. Kept kids entertained though, they loved it. There is an outdoor play area too but wasn't weather for that! Service was quick, friendly and efficient. Would definately visit again. Nice meal out, recommended.

I did not pick the hotel and to be honest i was impressed with the location. Close to the beach and with their own parking and play area. Looking at the prices in the menu, the food is very good value. The portions are large and more than enough for an adult. For food, i had a Mixed Grill as the main and profiteroles for desert. Both were very good. The Promenade Brewers Fayre is close to the train station and i would recommend it as a to go restaurant if you are moving around Margate. You have a bit of a view over the beach and the sea but it is just 30 seconds away from them. Overall a clean and tidy restaurant, well organised for the covid distance thing. Staff is very polite. I would definitely recommend it.

I had the misfortune of using the babychange in the disabled toilet, which was revolting. It was horribly dirty; the nappy bin was overflowing and the floor and surrounding parts of the toilet were filthy, covered in inches of mould and something sticky. What do you expect from a ‘spoons? Well, better than this. A couple of empty tables on the ground floor needed clearing and that didn’t look likely to happen anytime soon so we headed upstairs. Ordered fish and chips on the app. Every table upstairs was waiting for food. Bad sign! Drinks arrived eventually, short measures as expected. Food took an eternity. Fish, chips and peas (without the peas, for some reason). Other tables around us sliding had items missing or incorrect. Average taste and small portions, but again as expected. Look, it’s cheap. But it’s not cheerful. Usual story of not enough staff. The place is not kept clean, the tables are not cleared quickly and the food takes forever to arrive and when it does it’s not all there. This small cafe offers a nice selection of food, a stones throw away from Margate beach and had live music playing down the street. The restaurant has a lovely traditional, authentic and independent feel. The menu is fairly small which makes you feel that everything is fresh and made with care, which it most definitely is. For starters we had Bruschetta Tricolore and Caprino. Both were good portions so we were able to try a bit of everything each. The olive pate bruschetta was my favourite. For main course we went for pasta. I had the Pasta Pesto Genovese. I don't usually go for this as it's available at most places but this was delicious so I was glad I did. This place is great for a couple having a romantic dinner but would also work well for families as a very relaxed atmosphere. All the staff are very attentive.

The Bus Café is set in a vintage double-decker bus, with outdoor seating and tables on the upper deck, while the kitchen is downstairs. I have Coeliac Disease, and I was surprised at how safe and delicious my gluten free breakfast was. They have a separate, dedicated gluten free area in the kitchen and so many gluten free options. The restaurant is walking distance from Margate beach so you would expect the price to be a little higher. There was a little mixup as we were initially charged for the complementary Turkish tea - but the waiter was pleasant enough to apologise and deduct it from the bill. If you’re visiting the beach and go for a Meal I would definitely recommend this place.

So folks if your ever in margate then it's your choice to visit this small family run restaurant. If the BEANO just dropped the prices a tad and a slight decoration and snaze it up a touch then maybe they would be as busy as the other fish & chips restaurants there along the promenade.

Unfortunately whilst the venue offers to cater for all dietary requirements, the efforts to make the meal feel special fall short. Another of the party was gluten and dairy free (not vegan, there's a difference) and we were served the same. I was given a gluten free vegan sandwich - as someone who can eat gluten (luckily), I did not wish to be lumped into the same category and have to eat GF bread, which sadly isn't nice. The owner did change this for me as a request which I appreciate however unsure why I was served GF bread in the first place. My GF friend was served vegan food although she eats everything without gluten or dairy. Please note that there's an additional £2 charge to the afternoon tea for vegan / gf therefore you would expect that the same amount of effort goes into making you feel special. The regular afternoon tea looked spectacular and I felt sorely disappointed that mine was nowhere near as thoughtful. For a savoury option, I received one sandwich with vegan ham slices and a large side salad of leaves with no dressing or even basic olive oil. No vegan sausage roll (pack of 4 from Aldi only £2). Half a punnet of grapes and some strawberries plus various packet bought sweet treats. No scones or cake. I was incredibly disappointed to be asked to pay £25. When I asked about a vegan scone, the gentleman explained that they don't often have vegan so it's not something they would often obtain. I totally appreciate that however when the booking is made weeks in advance and dietary requirements are made clear, then I'd expect more effort to be made to pay that price. Even a 2nd sandwich option, vegan cheese + pickle or even the classic cucumber sandwich, roasted veg and hummus sandwich...anything. but to offer 1 sad sandwich on a plate for an afternoon tea costing £25 is absolutely atrocious and wildly overpriced. I do not recommend afternoon tea if you have specific dietary requirements. I must stress, the regular afternoon tea looked beautifully presented. It would be great to see this lovely little venue consider the needs of other diets a little better so that the experience is more inclusive for everyone.

However, the restaurant’s dog, Hazel, was off-leash and greeted our dog (who was on a lead) quite rudely when we walked in. Later during our stay, when exploring Margate, we realised that it must have been the cheapest takeaway in the area by a considerable amount! Also, portion sizes were bigger than in other places, and I don't only mean the fish but also the chips (we only had a look when passing by other establishments as we already knew where we would order every time during our stay). As we all know, it's impossible to have fish and chips every day, but if we lived in the area, I think at least once a week would be a must. Did look so popular with great presentation and selection of choices , including vegetarian options, so we decided to order our pizzas there. It is limited siting area there. So, if you do decide to get anything there, consider take away. We have ordered two pizzas.
