It's very dated and tiered and looks grubby. Broken tiles and toilet seats and old taps generally look like they're stuck in the 90s sorry to say. The staff were lovely and the menu was good except we ordered a ham and pineapple pizza and it came out on two bits Ciabatta and the chef didn't tell the staff and just assumed that was acceptable when it wasn't. We also ordered a sausage for our dog, and that was forgotten also and had to wait for that. He did eat it all when it arrived so that's ok you got his approval. The staff were very apologetic and took the pizza off the bill but if I hadn't have said anything, as the staff thought I had ordered it to come as it did, may have been charged pizza price, its not that cheap in there either but what we did have was actually good and plentiful. *It would have been better to tell the waiting staff that pizza wasn't available and give us the option of choosing something else, but hopefully, this will help the communication to be more open between staff and customers in the future. I know restaurants in Penzance are more seasonal, but I do think they need to spend money on the decor and interior as I doubt we'd go back again, which is a shame but there's better places to experience in Penzance and surrounding areas.

We were just going in for our daughter to have pasta but after going in we felt the difference instantly. The staff were polite and knew their stuff perfectly. We ordered cheese pasta with Salad and apple juice for our daughter and she loved it. The staff also offered some drawing papers and colors to keep our little one busy. For us we ordered a nice Mediterrane pizza which was really nice and served on a hot pan. We also ordered soup of the week which was tomato soup. It was okay. Overall we had a fun dinner with really good food at a good price. Kudos to staff as well. I would recommend if you visit Penzance then it's a must visit restaurant, it is close to the station.

I'm not a fan of shellfish but the smoked fish custard with mussels was my favourite of the night, as well as the rosemary posset. If you enjoy good food I would thoroughly recommend booking, it was 100% worth it.

I mentioned specifically food had to be ready at 1:45pm as we have a train to catch. The receptionist reassured me the food will be on time as they have around 90 mins to get the food ready. And there we were, arrived at 1:40pm to get the food. When paying, I asked to waive the extra portion of chips. They said they couldnt as they've made it which made completely sense. However, it was around 1355 that finally the food was ready. Being pannicking, the manager was really helpful by saying "You will be fine, still get plenty of time." I ran to the train station as fast as I could and was glad I did as the train took off 5 mins earlier. Anyway, just a personal horrify experience. The restaurant seemed nice. But for the food I had gotten, I would completely recommend 45 Queen street and The Cornish Barn which are not far away. 200% nicer and they certainly don’t have a rude manager with really poor attitude which basically put you off to any appetite you have. By the way, this is my first and ever 1 star to any restaurant. I always give my 5.

This year saw our 50th wedding anniversary and as a present my brother treated us to dinner at Harris's. Tucked down a side street (New Street) off Market Jew Street we have never previously noticed this establishment. The front of house staff were very welcoming and knowledgeable.For starters we had Cornets of smoked salmon with fresh Newlyn white crab meet followed by grilled fillet steak with bearnaise sauce (me) and Roast monkfish on saffron risotto. We finished the meal with creme brulee. All dishes were beautifully presented and extremely tasty. Surprisingly the sauté potatoes accompanying the main meal were fantastic. It seemed abnormally quiet as did the whole of Penzance this bank holiday! Very odd and the hosts agreed it wasn’t the usual experience. The food was unpretentious and absolutely delicious. There was even an unexpected complimentary palette cleanser of a homemade rosemary sorbet between the starters and main course. The hosts were extremely knowledgeable and answered all questions about produce (all local), and explained that all food including ice creams and sorbets and things that would normally be bought in are all made absolutely fresh on the premises, and you could taste it. They were charming and welcoming, unbelievably attentive and made you feel like a regular, and to boot we had some great conversation with them. The decor is also classic, charming and the restaurant has a very cosy and intimate bistro feel. The experience was honestly really really special and left you able to feel the sense of pride that the owners feel and put into this lovely establishment. A testament to itself that it’s been open since the 70s, which is a true rarity in the restaurant industry. We would recommend to anyone to support this wonderful local business and will absolutely be returning.

Plaques on the wall with recent accolades, quite impressive. The cod was beautiful, cooked to perfection. Staff were well presented, jolly and worked efficiently. My duck was the best duck ive ever had. Excellent value considering how good it was. Roger the sous chef and assistant Dan were the chefs that night, as the head chef had a night off. Kids catered for too. Manages to balance being a classy restaurant without being overly formal. Great views over the bay and attached to a lovely hotel. The waiting staff, though friendly, seemed to lack experience/skills. I say this as constructive feedback for the management: (eg. We WERE going to have one in the Front Room but after the way I was spoken to by one of the staff members we left immediately and went into the Quirky Bird across the road where the service couldn't have been more different from what I experienced. I then heard a womans voice literally SHOUT across the room that; "You can't sit there and you have to WAIT to be seated by me"!! You would think that with the town how it is at the moment with all the disruptive road works that have affected a lot of businesses in Penzance over the last 4 months that they would be greatful for any custom on a dull, wet and insipid Thursday afternoon. All I'm going to suggest is that if this woman isn't happy in her line of work because it clearly sounds like she isn't then maybe she should find a better suited job than front-facing customers service role. We received a warm welcome as soon as we walked through the door and were led to a table in the back, which was quiet and much needed. The lady gave us menus and said she'd be back in a few minutes to take our order. We both ordered full cornish breakfasts and tea. They do seem quite popular as it started to fill and they were receiving constant phone orders. Despite that, our food came out quickly all hot and delicious. We got the mixed starters 10B which comes with the excellent fish cakes, chicken toast, ribs and chicken skewers. I know most of you are probably used to prawn toast, but the chicken toast was a great match with the satay sauce and sweet chilli sauce provided. These starters were eagerly gobbled up. We are sitting having breakfast on both days and then there was an overwhelming stench of bleach pervading the dining room. A woman was mopping the floor!! The lamb rump was lovely, however for £26, we thought you would get more than 5 small pieces of lamb. I was as confused as he was as we looked around at the people who had ordered an ice cream and had a completely different portion. When we had gone to pay we were charged the full price. We had mentioned that it wasn’t right to be charged for a meal that was spoiled and they had taken it off of the bill and were apologetic. I only feel bad as my father didn’t have too much patience after he noticed they didn’t have the intention to take it off themselves without us mentioning something and him choosing to hold his tongue based off of his experience. Serendipity was on our side! My wife and had the roast, mine with pie and hers with a regular roast beef. Sooo yummy! The trimmings as well, superbly seasoned veggies. Good craft beer, too - and I love this is a dog friendly place. They even have dog ice cream! We don’t own dogs, but we appreciate having them around. We ordered the chicken tika chaat puri and mix chicken and kebab grill. The food was really delicious and we were absolutely gobsmacked at how delicious it was for a restaurant in Cornwall to serve such food. The chicken tikka chaat puri was something I never ever had tasted before. It contained tikka chicken, chickpeas and surprisingly cooked cucumber and spices. It was mouth watering and very delicious. The portions was quite large and at £5.99. It was truely worth it and couldnt believe the price. The staff were attentive and friendly. It was very busy for a Monday evening and after tasting the food I can understand why. I highly recommend it and as a south asian that is saying alot. Every element was better than anything we have ever eaten before. The fish was lovely chunky and fresh. The batter was delicious and not greasy (I can’t normally eat much batter). The chips are next level cooked in beef dripping, crispy on the outside fluffy inside and I had curry sauce which again I would say is the best I’ve ever had. I never want to eat fish and chips from anywhere else ever again because I know I would just be disappointed!

Such a shame as a friendly pub and the staff have always been friendly and welcoming and it’s a good place for a game of darts, with a nice beer garden for the kids to play in.

Also we asked for some homemade coffee and walnut cake to take away. I was gobsmaked when they asked for another £5.95 for that ! I guess you learn by experience. Overall it was nice but not amazing. Food/drink was average and very overpriced for what it was. If you have children I would absolutely AVOID. There was a sign on the door to say ‘well behaved children only’ which is understandable however it might as well say ‘no children allowed’ as it was made very clear they’re not wanted. Our children were well behaved and we still had constant eyes on us and negative, unnecessary passing comments (particularly by the older gentleman who I assume must own the place) Overall one of the most unwelcoming places we’ve ever experienced, and from reading other reviews I sense this is not an uncommon feeling. Unfortunately for these reasons we would not return, there are plenty of other nicer, more friendly places in town that deserve the custom and welcome you regardless of your age.

The linguine seafood dish was spaghetti instead of linguine, which is a big difference. We didn't complain as we work in restaurants/ pubs. The girls working the day we went couldn’t have been nicer. Everything arrived beautifully presented and tasted delicious and fresh. Can’t recommend this place enough and will definitely be back. After exploring the most magical gardens we were greeted with huge smiles from the staff. We were lucky the sun was out so we got to sit on the terrace. The food arrived quickly as did the drinks, we asked for recommendations out of the fish choices and both opted for the crab linguine. Absolutely delicious and made even better by a glass of French rosè, someone knows their wine as it was top notch. We asked for coffees after and our waitress kept an eye on us and waited for us finish our wine before delivering delicious fresh ground coffees. Although this sounds obvious our waitresses attention to detail made the experience seamless for us. All in all a fantastic experience and we will for sure return again. In short, don’t miss out on this place, you can visit without using the garden so makes a great place just to pop in. I recommend calling ahead and booking! I’d give 10 stars if I could.

Dog friendly too. Staff welcoming with a huge smile. Food quality is sublime and presented fit for a king. Roast dinner on a Sunday tasty and filling, Had the neopolitan sundae that was so tasty and enjoyable. All washed down with a sharps cider. This was all for £25.50 per person. Location is by the bus and train stations so ideal. You cannot fault this cafe it's 10 out of 10 for me and we be back again. Even a menu for your pooches as well. Thanks for a real special meal.

The food and survice was amazing. We had the sunday lunch . Highly recommend this place Just an update I’ve come here for the second year and the food is still out of this world especially the Sunday dinner and the service wow we ordered and within 10 minutes it was with us perfectly cooked thank you very much Hellys.
